A fresh western disturbance is expected to bring some relief in the northern region from the high temperatures. Delhi can expect light rainfall on June 20.

Swathes of northern and eastern India grappled with punishing heat wave conditions on Wednesday, and a western disturbance may provide much-needed relief, though only marginally, over the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department.
Also, conditions are now favourable for further advancement of the Monsoon which had made no significant progress between June 12 and 18, extending the wait for rains in north India which is reeling from the sweltering heat.
Maximum temperatures ranged from 43 to 45 degrees Celsius in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan.
In the national capital, hospitals reported a spike in heatstroke cases and several deaths in the last two days. Delhi recorded its warmest night in at least 14 years, with the minimum temperature settling at 35.2 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said heat wave to severe heat wave conditions prevailed in parts of Uttar Pradesh, south Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and pockets of Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and the Jammu division.

Several places in Uttarakhand, including Dehradun received light showers on Wednesday after a prolonged dry spell. In Himchal Pradesh, thunderstorms and rains in Shimla and surrounding areas brought some respite.
The maximum temperature in Dehradun, which had shot up to around 40 degrees Celsius by Wednesday afternoon, plummeted sharply with the rains which were preceded by gusty winds.
Delhi, which is facing a severe water crisis, recorded a maximum temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius over four notches above the normal. The minimum temperature in the city was 35.2 degrees Celsius, the highest in June since 1969.
In Haryana, Nuh recorded a high of 45.3 degrees Celsius, Faridabad 45 degrees Celsius, while Gurugram recorded 43.6 deg Celsius.
Chandigarh, the common capital of Punjab and Haryana, also sweltered under a maximum of 43.1 degrees Celsius. Sangrur in Punjab recorded 44.8 degrees Celsius, while Pathankot saw a high of 44.3 degrees Celsius.
The blistering heat has left a large number of people scrambling for water, with storage levels in reservoirs and rivers hitting record lows. The shortage of water for irrigation is impacting agriculture in some areas.
The power grids are under immense pressure and there has been an increase in incidents of short circuits and fires.
The Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NRLDC) Wednesday said multiple-tripping incidents were reported in the northern region on Monday after power demand shot up to 89.4 gigawatt (GW), leading to a supply gap of 16.5 GW.
Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and J-K were the affected states, it said.
Massive consumption of electricity amid a punishing heat wave stretching over weeks pushed the peak power demand of Delhi to an all-time high level of 8656 MW on Wednesday afternoon, according to discom officials.
Cooling load due to the increased use of air conditioners and other cooling appliances amid the relentless heat wave has led to a record rise in power demand, they said.
Temperatures in Delhi have remained above 40 degrees since May 12. In these 36 days, the city saw 16 days when the mercury reached or surpassed 45 degrees.
The water crisis worsened by the heat wave prompted Delhi Water Minister Atishi to seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention. She threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike from June 21 if the issue was not resolved soon.
Hospitals in Delhi-NCR have been seeing an influx of patients with complaints of heat stroke and heat exhaustion as the mercury continued to soar, with doctors advising the elderly and immuno-compromised patients to avoid stepping outdoors.
At the Centre-run RML Hospital, authorities received 22 patients in the last two days. There have been five deaths and 12 patients are on ventilator support.
At the Safdarjung Hospital, there have been a total of 60 heatstroke cases, including 42 patients who have been admitted. The hospital has reported six casualties, including a 60-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man who died on Tuesday.
According to LNJP Hospital authorities, four patients have died due to suspected heatstroke in the last two days.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda reviewed the heatwave situation and preparedness of central government hospitals. He ordered that special heatwave units be started in the central government-run hospitals.
IMD officials said high minimum temperatures or warm nights are exacerbating the impact of the deadly heat.
High night temperatures are considered dangerous because the body does not get a chance to cool down. Increasing nighttime temperature is more common in cities because of the urban heat island effect, in which metro areas are significantly hotter than their surroundings.
"This is scaring me. The minimum temperature in cities is not going down. People are not getting a chance to recover which means that we are getting more deaths at night than during the daytime, because normally the minimum temperature would fall and you would be able to recover to go back to work the next day, just not getting that," noted environmentalist Sunita Narain told PTI here.
India is experiencing one of its hottest summers this time. Multiple heat waves have pushed millions in the country to their limits and many states have reported heat-related deaths.
According to IMD, around 40 per cent of the country has recorded double the number of heat wave days than it usually does.
Rajasthan has hit 50 degrees Celsius twice over the last few weeks, and Delhi has recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius for 36 consecutive days.
ON Wednesday, maximum temperatures were recorded two to five degrees Celsius above normal in Rajasthan's Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur and Bikaner divisions.
According to the Meteorological Center Jaipur, in the last 24 hours, rain was recorded with cloudy weather in some parts of eastern Rajasthan and the weather remained dry in western Rajasthan.
Experts attribute the scorching heat to climate change and the naturally occurring El Ni o phenomenon -- which is basically unusual warming of the ocean surface in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean.
While heat waves are common in India during April and May, scientists say climate change has made them more frequent and intense.
Data shows that 12 of the warmest years in India have occurred since 2006, with 2016 experiencing the highest temperatures to date.
The World Weather Attribution Group said similar heatwaves, which once occurred every 30 years, have become about 45 times more likely due to climate change.

Rain and cool winds on Sunday brought the mercury down by five notches in Delhi with the maximum temperature settling at 28.3 degrees Celsius and ensured that the national capital registered its best air quality of this year.
According to the Commission For Air Quality Management (CAQM), Delhi registered its best air quality of the year on Sunday.
Delhi's 24-hour Air Quality Index was in the 'good' category with a reading of 45 on Sunday.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.
"Delhi today registered its best air quality of the current year with an average AQI of 45 ('Good' AQI category). Earlier, during this year, Delhi has recorded Air Quality Index of 54 and 59 ('Satisfactory') on 9th September and 29th July respectively," CAQM said in a post on X.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 23.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average.
The Safdarajung Observatory, the official marker for the national capital, recorded 1.3 mm of rainfall between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. The observatories at Palam, Lodhi Road, Ayanagar, Narela and Gurgaon recorded rainfall of 0.2 mm, 0.8 mm, 3 mm, 1.5 mm and 7.5 mm, respectively, during the period.
Humidity levels oscillated between 86 per cent and 100 per cent.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi received reports of waterlogging from five places and of trees being uprooted from 16 locations. The public works department received calls regarding waterlogging from Mundka and Narela, among others.
The New Delhi Municipal Council's (NDMC) Disaster Management Centre received 70 complaints during the past two days. Of these, 26 were received late on Saturday while the remaining poured in by 11 am on Sunday.
The issues reported included incidents of minor waterlogging, fallen tree leaves and malfunctioning road lights, necessitating swift action.
Officials said 19 instances of waterlogging were promptly resolved at crucial locations, including Janpath, Sikandra Road, C-Hexagon, Copernicus Marg, Barakhamba Road, Harish Chander Mathur Lane and Kautilya Marg.
The accumulated water was removed through manual efforts and super-sopper machines. Additionally, water stagnating in potted plants at prominent areas was also removed.
The G20 Summit venue and most of the hotels where the delegates stayed are in areas under the NDMC's jurisdiction.
For Monday, the weather office has forecast generally cloudy skies with the possibility of very light rain or drizzle at one or two places. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle at 32 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The air quality is likely to remain in the 'satisfactory' category from Monday to Wednesday.

The Yamuna in Delhi swelled to 207.55 metres on Wednesday, breaching its all-time record of 207.49 metres set in 1978, government agencies said on Wednesday.
According to the Central Water Commission's (CWC) flood-monitoring portal, the water level at the Old Railway Bridge crossed the 207-metre mark at 4 am, the first time since 2013, and rose to 207.55 metres by 1 pm.
The river is likely to rise further, an official of the irrigation and flood control department said.
As a precautionary measure, the Delhi Police imposed section 144 CrPC in flood-prone areas of the national capital on Wednesday, officials said.
Section 144 CrPC prevents the unlawful assembly of four or more persons and public movement in groups.
Delhi recorded a rapid increase in the Yamuna water level over the last three days.
It shot up from 203.14 metres at 11 am on Sunday to 205.4 at 5 pm on Monday, breaching the danger mark of 205.33 metres 18 hours earlier than expected.
The river had exceeded the evacuation mark of 206 metres on Monday night, prompting the relocation of people residing in flood-prone areas to safer locations and a closure of the Old Railway Bridge for road and rail traffic.
Delhi water minister Saurabh Bharadwaj told the media that the city government was prepared to deal with the situation. "We are monitoring the situation and all possible steps are being taken," he said.
Embankments are being constructed in the low-lying areas to prevent the entry of floodwater into other parts of the capital in case the Yamuna water level rises further.
Major floods in Delhi occurred in 1924, 1977, 1978, 1995, 2010, and 2013. Analysis of flood data from 1963 to 2010 indicate an increasing trend for floods occurring in September, and a decreasing trend in July, according to research.
Bhim Singh Rawat, associate coordinator, South Asia Network on Dams, Rivers, People (SANDRP), attributed the unprecedented rise in the Yamuna water level in Delhi to riverbed elevation due to significant silt accumulation.
"Lack of dredging, more than 20 bridges and three barrages within the 22-km river stretch from Wazirabad to Okhla obstruct the flow, leading to deposition of silt in the riverbed and formation of a lot of mid-stream sandbars," he told PTI.
Locations of these sandbars include beneath the Signature Bridge, between the ITO barrage and Yamunabank, between ISBT Kashmiri Gate and ORB, and between ORB and Geeta Colony Bridge.
Rawat said that in 1978, the river reached a height of 207.49 metres in September after becoming saturated in the monsoon season and it coincided with a flow rate exceeding 7 lakh cusecs from the Tajewala Barrage.
The maximum flow rate this time was 3.59 lakh cusec on Tuesday. An official explained that the sharp rise in water level was due to continuous rainfall in the upper catchment areas and saturated soil from heavy precipitation in Delhi and nearby regions over the weekend.
People living in low-lying areas have been shifted to safer places at higher altitudes, the department said.
It said 45 boats have been deployed for awareness, evacuation and rescue work and NGOs have been roped in to provide relief to the evacuated people.

Parts of Tamil Nadu&nbsp;and Andhra&nbsp;Pradesh&nbsp;experienced heavy rainfall due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal that crossed the coast between the two states on Friday morning.&nbsp;
Schools remained closed in several districts of Tamil Nadu&nbsp;and Andhra&nbsp;Pradesh, while Southern Railway announced suspension of trains.&nbsp;
The heavy downpour caused loss of life and property in both states.&nbsp;

The four &lsquo;maada streets&rsquo; adjoining the main temple on Tirumala Hills, remained flooded, as was the Vaikuntham queue complex (cellar).
Darshan of the God was virtually stalled as pilgrims could not venture out because of the inundation.
The Japali Anjaneya Swamy temple on Tirumala was inundated and idol of the God submerged.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams officials made arrangement for free food and accommodation for the pilgrims stranded on the holy hills.
TTD Executive Officer K S Jawahar Reddy declared a holiday on Friday for the office staff in view of the situation.
The two ghat roads leading to the Tirumala Hills were closed for traffic following the flood and landslides, official sources said.
The pedestrian stairway leading to the temple from Alipiri was also closed down, they said.
The Tirupati International Airport at Renigunta also remained inundated, forcing the authorities to stop landing of incoming aircraft.
Airport Director S Suresh said two passenger flights scheduled to land in Tirupati from Hyderabad and Bengaluru were asked to return. A scheduled flight from New Delhi has been cancelled due to the prevailing weather condition, he added.
The TTD Additional Executive Officer&rsquo;s office in Tirumala remained marooned, as were many guest houses.
A landslide damaged three rooms at the Narayanagiri guest house complex but nothing untoward has been reported as the rooms were unoccupied, official sources said.
Pilgrims staying in other rooms in Narayanagiri and nearby S V guest house were shifted to other accommodation.
