Jaya Verma Sinha on Sept 1 took charge as the first woman CEO and Chairperson of the Railway Board, the apex decision-making body for the national transporter.
She joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1988. She succeeds Anil Kumar Lahoti in her new role and will be in office till August 31, 2024.
Interestingly, Sinha is slated to retire on October 1, but will be re-employed the same day till her tenure gets over.
An Alumnus of Allahabad University, Sinha joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1988 and worked in Northern Railway, S E Railway and Eastern Railway.
She also worked as Railway Advisor in the High Commission of India, Dhaka, Bangladesh for four years.
During her tenure in Bangladesh, the Maitree Express from Kolkata to Dhaka was inaugurated.&nbsp;

The Railway Board has recommended a CBI probe into the Balasore train accident that has so far claimed 275 lives.
&ldquo;We have recommended a CBI probe into the triple train accident that claimed 275 lives and left over 1,000 injured,&rdquo; Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told reporters in Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening.
The Centre along with the support of the state government are giving all support to the injured patients who are admitted to various hospitals in Balasore, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
&ldquo;Patients are being given all facilities in hospitals. There are teams of doctors who are taking care of patients round-the-clock,&rdquo; Vaishnaw said.
He said the government was trying to get in touch with the families of the deceased.
&ldquo;We are trying to get in touch with families of the dead,&rdquo; the Minister added.
The Odisha government on Sunday revised the triple train accident&rsquo;s death toll to 275 from 288, and put the number of injuries at 1,175.
Chief Secretary P K Jena said some bodies were counted twice. "After detailed verification and a report by Balasore District Collector, the final toll has been fixed at 275," he said.
Three trains&mdash; Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah super fast and a goods train &mdash; were involved in the pile-up on Friday, now being described as one of India&rsquo;s worst train accidents.
The Coromandel Express rammed into a stationary goods train and many of its carriages overturned including some onto another train - the Bengaluru-Howrah superfast express which was also passing by at the same time on Friday.

Railways has decided to suspend its Non Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) and Level 1 tests after violent protests by job aspirants over the selection process of its recruitment exams, a spokesperson for the national transporter said on Wednesday.
It has also formed a high level committee to examine the grievances of those who have passed the exams under different railway recruitment boards (RRBs) and those who have failed the same.
After listening to both the parties, the committee will submit a report to the railway ministry, he said.  "A high power committee has been formed to look into the concerns and doubts raised by candidates in regard to results of 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT) of Centralized Employment Notification (CEN) 01/2019 of Non Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) issued by Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) on 14-15th January 2022," the railways said.   The committee will examine the results of 1st Stage CBT of centralised employees notice issued in 2019 (CEN 01/2019) for NTPC and methodology used for shortlisting candidates for second stage CBT without effecting existing shortlisted candidates and the introduction of second stage CBT in CEN RRC 01/2019.
The candidates can lodge their concerns and suggestions to the committee at rrbcommittee@railnet.gov.in, the railways has said.
All chairpersons of RRBs have also been directed to receive the grievances of candidates through their existing channels, compile these grievances and send the same to the committee.
Candidates have been given three weeks time up to February 16 to submit their concerns and the committee after examining these concerns will submit their recommendations by March 4, 2022.
"In view of above, the 2nd Stage CBT of CEN 01/2019 (NTPC) beginning 15th February 2022 and 1st Stage CBT of CEN RRC 01/2019 beginning 23rd February stands postponed," the railways said.

The Indian Railways may stop providing blankets, pillows, hand towels and sheets in its air-conditioned coaches when it resumes full services, even after the&nbsp;pandemic&nbsp;ends, according to a report in the Indian Express.
While a formal decision is yet to be taken, the report says the issue was discussed at a high-level video conference between Railway Board top brass and zonal and divisional officials earlier this week.
The report adds, a committee is being formed to decide what to do with the mechanised mega laundries, set up to wash the linen under the Build-Operate-Own-Transfer model across India.
The Railways is estimated to spend Rs 40-50 for washing each linen set. According to estimates, there are about 18 lakh linen sets in circulation at present. A blanket remains in service for about 48 months, and is washed once a month. At present no new linen items are being procured, says the report.
Apart from the cost involved, linen sets, especially blankets and sheets, have been a regular cause of passenger complaints.
Over the last few months, about 20 railway divisions have given contracts to private vendors for selling disposable blankets, pillows and sheets at stations at cheap prices.
