Pradhan asserted that not only the country but the world also believes in India's great democratic values ​​and its credibility.

Flaying Gandhi over his remarks, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "You are venting the ire over the Enforcement Directorate's (action in the National Herald case) on the Election Commission. Nothing will happen by doing so." "The ED will not spare you because agencies work on the basis of facts and the National Herald matter is an open and shut case. You will not be spared. You and your mother will be caught with proceeds of crime and sent to jail," he said at a press conference at the BJP headquarters here.
Both Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi will go behind the bars in connection with the case, he asserted.
"You are a traitor, not just because you insult Indian institutions and Indian democracy on foreign soil but also because you and your mother have embezzled crores of rupees of the country in the National Herald case. You and your mother will not be able to get away with this," Patra said.
The ED had recently filed a chargesheet against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and others before a special court in New Delhi in the National Herald case accusing them of allegedly laundering Rs 988 crore.
The prosecution complaint filed on April 9 under various sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) named Sonia Gandhi, a former Congress president, as the accused no 1, and her son and MP Rahul Gandhi, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, as accused no 2.

This backlash comes after Rahul Gandhi&rsquo;s address to the Indian diaspora in Boston, where he alleged that the Election Commission (EC) in India was "compromised."
He claimed that there was something fundamentally wrong with the system, citing the Maharashtra elections as an example. Gandhi stated that 65 lakh voters were added to the electoral roll in just two hours, which he said was physically impossible.
He further claimed that between 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM, 65 lakh votes were cast, and he questioned the integrity of the system when his request for videography was denied.
"It&rsquo;s very clear to us that the Election Commission is compromised, and there is something very wrong with the system. I have said this multiple times," Gandhi stated.
In response, sources from the Election Commission rejected these claims, stating that allegations of manipulated electoral rolls were unfounded.
According to these sources, very few appeals were made under the Representation of People Act for correcting or including entries in the electoral rolls during the recent Special Summary Revision (SSR) conducted in January 2025.
The SSR process, which aims to ensure transparency in the voting process by adding eligible voters and removing duplicates, had only 89 appeals recorded in Maharashtra.
The sources stressed that, with over 13 million Booth Level Agents (BLAs) in the country, these figures indicate no irregularities, affirming that the electoral rolls published in January 2025 are undisputed.

Speaking at a gathering of the Indian diaspora in Boston, Gandhi claimed that there was an implausible spike in the number of voters during the last Maharashtra election. &ldquo;More people voted in Maharashtra than the total number of people in Maharashtra, and this is a fact... the Election Commission gave us a figure in the evening around 5:30 p.m., and in two hours around 7:30 p.m., 65 lakh voters had voted, which is physically impossible,&rdquo; he said.

In response to such allegations, sources within the Election Commission dismissed the claims as unfounded. They said the accusations lacked merit given that barely any formal complaints or appeals were lodged during the latest Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls, published in January 2025.
The SSR is a routine exercise conducted to update voter rolls, add newly eligible voters, and remove duplicates or deceased names to maintain electoral accuracy. According to the EC, just 89 appeals were recorded in Maharashtra. Despite the presence of over 13 million Booth Level Agents (BLAs) across the country, only a negligible number of corrections were sought, the sources said.
&ldquo;Therefore, the electoral rolls published after the completion of SSR in January 2025 must be considered undisputed,&rdquo; an EC source noted.
In his address, Gandhi also touched upon India&rsquo;s bilateral ties with the United States. &ldquo;We have a partnership with the US, and hopefully we will continue to work together,&rdquo; he said.
He expressed appreciation for the diaspora's continued support for the Congress ideology. &ldquo;You believe, you listen to other people, and you respect them. This is what runs in the Congress party and in our family.... Thank you for carrying the flag here, it's a very powerful thing to do,&rdquo; he added.

Complainant's lawyer Santosh Kumar Pandey said a witness was supposed to testify on Tuesday.
"The witness had come to court but could not record the statement due to ill health. Upon my request, the judge set April 28 as the next hearing date," he added.
The case dates back to 2018, when local BJP politician Vijay Mishra filed a defamation suit over Gandhi's alleged objectionable remarks against BJP leader Amit Shah during the Karnataka assembly elections.
After five years of legal proceedings, the court issued a warrant against Gandhi in December 2023.
The Rae Bareli MP surrendered before the court in February 2024, and was granted bail on two sureties of Rs 25,000 each by the special magistrate. On July 26, he recorded his statement before the court, claiming innocence and calling the case a political conspiracy.
Earlier this year, multiple hearings were postponed due to a strike by lawyers and the ill health of Gandhi's counsel.
On February 11, Gandhi's lawyer Shukla completed the cross-examination of the complainant.

Concerns about Mr. Gandhi's citizenship have persisted for years. Originally a Lok Sabha MP from 2004 and presently the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Gandhi&rsquo;s nationality has been questioned in a new petition.
This petition, brought forward by a Karnataka-based BJP worker named Shishir, also seeks an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Shishir claims to possess confidential emails supporting his assertion that Mr. Gandhi is included in the UK&rsquo;s citizenship records.
"We have direct communication from the UK government," he informed NDTV, citing documents that suggest Mr. Gandhi holds dual citizenship, which is prohibited under Indian law.
Last November, Justices Rajan Roy and Om Prakash Shukla, in response to the ongoing petition, instructed Deputy Solicitor General SB Pandey to file directions about any action taken on this plea. The Home Ministry was initially given three weeks to respond, which remains pending.
Parallel to this, the Delhi High Court is addressing a similar plea filed by former BJP MP Subramanian Swamy in 2019.
Mr. Swamy, who first made these allegations in 2015, argued before Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice TR Gedela that his correspondence on Mr. Gandhi's citizenship went unanswered.
Notably, Mr. Swamy's allegations rest on records from a defunct British company, established in 2003, which purportedly identified Mr. Gandhi as a UK national.
The Congress party has consistently refuted these allegations. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mr. Gandhi's sister, has publicly supported him, stating, "Everyone knows Rahul Gandhi is Indian and was born and raised here..." Rahul Gandhi himself has dismissed these claims as an attempt to tarnish his reputation.
The Delhi High Court has expressed concern about the dual proceedings, as the matter is being heard both in Allahabad and Delhi. The court has questioned the central government's seeming reluctance to act on these petitions.

"There is an entire system which is against you and doesn't want you to progress. The system attacks you everyday and half of the time you don't even get to know how it attacks you," the former Congress president told them.
"You need to understand that the ideology of the Constitution is your ideology. I can say this to you with guarantee that had there not been Dalits in this country, it would not have got its Constitution. It's your ideology, it's your Constitution but wherever you go now, you are crushed by the system," Gandhi added.
Gandhi is on a two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency from Thursday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hailed the people of Delhi for putting an end to the "lies and deception" politics of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) by giving a clear mandate to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assembly elections.
He said that people have put an end to "short-cut" politics of Kejriwal and removed a "major obstacle" in the way of Delhi's development.

"Delhi's mandate also clarified that there is no place for shortcuts or lies and deception in politics. Janata ne short cut rajneeti ka short circuit kar diya (People have short-circuited the politics of shortcut)," PM Modi said while addressing a gathering at the party's headquarters after the resounding victory in assembly polls.
<h3>BJP's Return to Power</h3>
BJP has won 48 seats, while AAP has won just 22 seats against 62 in the 2020 assembly polls.
The BJP is returning to power in the national capital after 27 years, ending over 10 years of Aam Aadmi Party rule.
Several AAP leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, ex-Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, and three-time MLA Somnath Bharti, lost from their strongholds.
<h3>Criticism of AAP's Politics</h3>
The PM slammed the AAP's politics of "protests, confrontation, and administrative uncertainty."
"Today, you Delhiites have removed a major obstacle in the way of Delhi's development," PM Modi added
. Lashing out at AAP, he said, "The real owner of Delhi is only the people of Delhi. Those who thought of being the owners of Delhi have been confronted with the truth."
<h3>PM Modi on Anna Hazare</h3>
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Anna Hazare must have got some relief from pain following AAP's defeat in the Delhi Assembly election. He added that Hazare had been "bearing the pain of the misdeeds of these people for a long time."
Earlier in the day, Anna Hazare had criticised AAP for their alleged involvement in controversies surrounding liquor and money.
PM Modi said AAP was born out of the movement against corruption but became deeply involved in it.
"The party born out of the movement against corruption got involved in corruption. It became such a party of the country whose Chief Minister and Ministers went to jail on corruption charges. Those who used to give themselves certificates of honesty turned out to be corrupt. This was a big betrayal with Delhi," PM Modi said.

<h3>AAP's Scams and Arrogance</h3>
PM Modi further attacked AAP, stating that the liquor scam had defamed Delhi. "The scams in schools and hospitals troubled the poorest of the poor, and on top of that, their arrogance was so much that when the world was dealing with Corona, these people were building 'Sheesh Mahal'."
Earlier, Anna Hazare had said that AAP did not understand the importance of character in politics, which led to their downfall.
He remarked, "They got tangled in liquor and money - his (Arvind Kejriwal's) image was dented because of it and that's why they are getting fewer votes in the election."

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday expressed concerns over the sharp rise in new voters in Maharashtra, particularly between the 2024 Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections.&nbsp;
He highlighted that 39 lakh new voters were added within just five months after the Lok Sabha polls, a significant jump compared to the 32 lakh added over five years between the 2019 Vidhan Sabha and 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking at a press conference at the Constitution Club in Delhi, alongside Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders Sanjay Raut and Supriya Sule, Gandhi questioned discrepancies in voter registration figures, claiming that the total number of registered voters in Maharashtra exceeded the state's adult population.

"In five years between Vidhan Sabha 2019 and Lok Sabha 2024 elections, 32 lakh voters were added to the electoral rolls in Maharashtra. However, in a period of five months between Lok Sabha 2024 and Vidhan Sabha 2024, 39 lakh new voters were added. The question is: who are these 39 lakh people?"
Gandhi also pointed out a statistical inconsistency, stating that Maharashtra's adult population, as per government records, stood at 9.54 crores, while the Election Commission's data indicated a higher number of registered voters than the total adult population.&nbsp;
"According to the government, the adult population of Maharashtra is 9.54 crores. According to the Election Commission, there are more voters in Maharashtra than people in the state. Somehow, voters were suddenly added in Maharashtra," he remarked.
Further, he noted that the number of votes received by Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP-SCP remained consistent across both elections. "We got the same amount of votes. Congress vote in Lok Sabha 2024 in a constituency is 1.36 lakh votes and in Vidhan Sabha, we get 1.34 lakh," he said.&nbsp;
However, he pointed out that 35,000 new voters were added in certain constituencies, which helped the BJP secure victory in the Assembly elections.&nbsp;
"BJP in Lok Sabha gets 1.9 lakh votes, and then in Vidhan Sabha, they get 1.75 lakh votes. Most of those voters who provided the BJP their victory come from those 35,000 new voters who have been added. It is the case in multiple constituencies," he asserted.
Gandhi demanded that the Election Commission provide the voter lists for both the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections.&nbsp;

"I heard the President's address. I sat there with Kharge Ji, and I listened to it. I must say, I struggled through the President's address to maintain my attention on what was being said because I had heard pretty much the same Presidential address last time, the time before that, and the time before that," Gandhi remarked.
He continued, adding, "It was the same list of things the government has done. 'We've done this, we've done that'... 50 or 100 things the government has done."
He reflected on the need for a new direction and pondered, "What type of Presidential address should be delivered, and how would that address be different from what we heard?"
Gandhi emphasized the importance of focusing on the country's production and laid out what an alternative address might look like, especially from the perspective of the INDIA bloc.&nbsp;
He stated that youth unemployment continues to be a significant issue, which both the UPA and NDA governments have failed to address adequately.

"Neither the UPA government nor the NDA government has given a clear-cut answer to youth unemployment. I don't think anybody will disagree with that," he said.
Pointing out the decline in the manufacturing sector, Gandhi highlighted that the share of manufacturing in India's GDP had decreased from 15.3 percent in 2014 to 12.6 percent in 2025.

&ldquo;The PM proposed the Make in India program. I think it was a good idea; we saw the statue, we saw the logo, we saw the investment, and the result is right in front of you. Manufacturing fell from 15.3 percent of GDP in 2014 to 12.6 percent of GDP today. That is the lowest share of manufacturing in history," Gandhi explained.
Although acknowledging that the idea behind Make in India was sound, he stated, "I would not blame this on the Prime Minister; it is unfair to say that he did not try. I think the Prime Minister tried, and I think conceptually, Make in India was a good idea, but it is pretty clear that it failed."
He went on to discuss the broader problem of production in India, asserting that the country has failed in organizing production.
"Pretty much every government since 1990 has done a decent job in consumption. But as a country, we have failed in organizing production," he said.&nbsp;
Gandhi further criticized the reliance on imports from China, emphasizing that many products labeled as "Made in India" are merely assembled in the country, while the actual components come from China.
Holding up his phone in the Lok Sabha, he remarked, "All the components of this phone are made in China. The network that is produced is made in China."
Gandhi urged a stronger focus on domestic production, stating, "So the first message I would give in a Presidential address is to focus completely on production." He warned that without focusing on production, India would face a significant deficit, rising inequality, and various economic challenges.
He also highlighted the ongoing revolution in electric vehicles and energy production, noting, "We are moving from petrol to batteries. We are moving to wind, solar, and potentially nuclear energy."&nbsp;
Reflecting on past achievements, Gandhi recalled how the Congress government successfully harnessed the computer revolution, stating, "The government of India had a clear focus; we looked at that revolution. It was a Congress government, and we decided we were going to focus on the development of software, and we rode that wave of that revolution."
Gandhi concluded by referencing the Russia-Ukraine war, framing it as part of a broader technological shift.&nbsp;
"The actual war is between an internal combustion machine and the motor. The electric motor is inside the drone, and the machine is in the tank," he said, noting how drones are now replacing traditional tanks in warfare.

Multiple casualties were feared after a stampede broke out at the Sangam on Wednesday amid the ongoing Maha Kumbh, as millions of pilgrims turned up for a holy bath on Mauni Amavasya, officials said.
In view of the incident, the akharas called off their traditional 'Amrit Snan' for Mauni Amavasya, even as devotees in large numbers continued to take a dip at Sangam and other ghats in the Mela area.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the news of "many people losing their lives" and many people getting injured due to the stampede on the banks of the Tirthraj Sangam during the Maha Kumbh is extremely heartbreaking.

"Our deepest condolences to the families of the devotees and we wish for the speedy recovery of the injured," he said.
"Half-baked arrangements, VIP movement, paying more attention to self-promotion and mismanagement are responsible for this. Such arrangements despite spending thousands of crores of rupees are condemnable," the Congress chief said in a post in Hindi on X.
"Many important 'shahi snans' are still left, so the central and state governments should wake up now, and improve the system so that such unpleasant incidents do not happen in future," Kharge said.
"The arrangements for accommodation, food, first aid and movement of devotees etc. Should be expanded and VIP movement should be reined in. This is what our saints and sages also want," he said.
Kharge urged Congress workers to help the victims in every possible way.
Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said the news of "many people's death and many getting injured due to stampede in Prayagraj Maha Kumbh is extremely saddening".
"I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured.
"Mismanagement and administration's special focus on VIP movement instead of common devotees are responsible for this tragic incident," Gandhi said in his post on X.
Noting that there is still a lot of time left for Maha Kumbh with many more Mahasnans to be held, Gandhi said the government should improve the system to prevent a tragic incident like today.
"VIP culture should be reined in and the government should make better arrangements to fulfill the needs of common devotees," Gandhi asserted.
He urged Congress workers and leaders to help the affected families.

The devotees visiting the Kumbh area were constantly complaining of the severe chaos but no attention was paid and administrative negligence was observed, she said in a post on her WhatsApp channel.
Priyanka Gandhi appealed to the government to airlift the injured and arrange for their immediate treatment.
"The deceased should be identified and sent to their families and immediate arrangements should be made keeping the convenience of the devotees paramount. The devotees are requested to perform the bath with patience and peace," she said.
"May Maa Ganga protect everyone," she added.
In a post in Hindi on X, Congress' media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said, "The death of many devotees in the stampede during Kumbh bath in Prayagraj is very saddening. The kind of crowd that was there and the half-baked arrangements that were put in place, there was always a danger of such an accident happening," Khera said.
