Reaffirming the commitment of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government to firmly stand with farmers of the state, Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian has assured farmer union leaders that the state government will not allow farmers' interests to be affected by the National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing.
The Agriculture Minister was holding in-depth discussions with farmer unions&rsquo; leaders on the draft policy on &ldquo;National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing here at Punjab Bhawan, on Thursday.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The state government is concerned as this policy could have serious implications for the State and its farmers, so we want to analyse and consult on the each and every aspect of the draft policy shared by the GoI,&rdquo; said the Agriculture Minister, while adding that agriculture experts and other stakeholders will also be consulted soon to analyse it thoroughly so that not a single point is left unconsidered.
Gurmeet Singh Khudian, along with Additional Chief Secretary Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Mr. Anurag Verma, Chairman of Punjab State Farmers' &amp; Farm Workers' Commission Dr. Sukhpal Singh, Secretary Punjab Mandi Board Mr. Ramvir, appealed the farmers to send their suggestions and comments in this regard to the Agriculture department.
Farmer Unions&rsquo; leaders Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Balbir Singh Rajewal, Dr. Darshan Pal, Ruldu Singh Mansa, Dr. Satnam Singh Ajnala and other leaders expressed deep concerns over potential privatisation, monopolistic practices in the disguise of the Policy. It could be an attempt to reintroduce the contentious provisions of the three farm laws, which were repealed by the Union Government following the farmers&rsquo; protests, they added.&nbsp;
They also urged the state government for further examination before sending a response to the Centre so that Punjab and its farmers interests could be fully secured.
The high-level meeting was also attended by Special Secretary Agriculture Harbir Singh, Director Agriculture Mr. Jaswant Singh, Director of Research at PAU, Ludhiana Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt and senior officials of Punjab Mandi Board and Agriculture department.

The Kejriwal-led party is a constituent of the opposition INDIA bloc. However, it is contesting the Lok Sabha polls independently in Punjab.
Addressing a gathering in Barnala in support of AAP's Sangrur candidate Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Mann said the constituency is and will always be AAP's "capital (stronghold)".
He claimed that AAP chief Kejriwal deeply cares about Sangrur and always asks about it.
"Last time I went to meet him in jail, he first asked about Sangrur. I told him the next time I come to meet him, I would tell him the ground reality. Today, seeing the enthusiasm of the people here, it is clear that we are winning Sangrur by a huge margin," Mann said.

Accompanied by his wife Dr Gurpreet Kaur, who was discharged from a private hospital in Mohali after giving birth to their daughter on Thursday, Mann held the baby girl in his arms as he interacted with the media outside his residence.
"Today, it is a big day for my family and my wife. Our relatives have reached home and all are very happy. I thank Almighty for giving us a healthy baby," Mann said.
"Whether it is a boy or a girl, the first thing is that the child should be healthy. Secondly, the child should be given a good education and allowed to chase their dreams. Our daughters are no less and they are excelling in every field and I am happy that I have become father to a girl," he said.
Replying to a question, Mann said he visited Fortis hospital in Mohali on Wednesday evening when his wife got admitted there for the child's delivery.
He said during her visits to the hospital for check ups earlier he intentionally avoided not to accompany her as his visits involve security protocols and he did not want any inconvenience should be caused to patients.
About the baby's name, he said a few days back he and his wife listened to a song and a word came up from there.
"This line had come in that song--Niyamat rab di daad, khuda di bakshish," he said.
So, we thought if a baby girl is born, we will name her Niyamat, which means divine blessing, the CM said.

They said the agency team went to Kejriwal's residence to serve him a summons in the case. The team also informed the staff at the chief minister's residence that it has a search warrant, they said.

So far, investments worth Rs 70,000 crore have already been firmed up, with prominent companies expressing interest to invest in the state, Mann said.
The government is committed to safeguard the interests of local industries, the CM said, referring to them as the true brand ambassadors of Punjab.
He assured that the state government will support these companies in expanding their operations within Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday said that he has requested the Centre to direct the Haryana government to 'maintain peace' in border areas in view of the farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' agitation.
Meanwhile, the third round of talks between the Union ministers and the 14 farmer union leaders concluded after around five hours on Friday. It ended in a stalemate, with no common ground in sight, the next round of the talks will take place on Sunday at 6 pm.
Bhagwant Mann, while addressing the media after the meeting with union ministers, said that the deliberation took place on 13-14 demands put forward by the farmers.
"We have had the meeting in a positive environment on 13-14 demands. The next meeting will take place on Sunday... The Internet in the border areas has been suspended. This is causing problems for students during the examinations... I requested the Centre to direct the Haryana government to maintain peace in border areas," Mann said.
Mann further said that the problems of the people of Punjab are also a concern.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday dedicated the Sri Guru Amar Dass Thermal Plant, which was recently purchased by the state government from a private company, to the people. The plant was purchased from private company GVK Power at a cost of Rs 1080 crore.
"For the first time, a reverse trend was witnessed in the state as the government purchased a private power plant whereas in the past the state governments used to sell their assets to the favorite individuals at 'throw away' prices. This power plant is the cheapest purchase made by any state or private company as other power plants like Korba West, Jhabua Power and Lanco Amarkantak of capacity 600 MW have been purchased at Rs 1804 crore, Rs 1910 crore and Rs 1818 crore respectively," the state government said in an official statement.
The power plant has been renamed as Sri Guru Amardass Thermal Power plant, after the third Sikh Guru. The available capacity of the power plant is 61 per cent while it was used only at 34 per cent of capacity, the release stated, adding that it will now run at 75-80 per cent of its capacity, thereby augmenting the power generation in the state.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday accused the Haryana government of creating a border "between Punjab and India", referring to the concrete blocks, nails and barbed wire placed on some roads to scuttle the farmers' proposed 'Delhi Chalo' march.
He said the Manohar Khattar-led Haryana government has placed as much barbed wire at the state's borders with Punjab as there is at the country's border with Pakistan.
Khattar, however, justified the steps taken by his government to seal the state's borders and stop Punjab farmers from marching towards the national capital, saying the arrangements are aimed at maintaining law and order.
