Bollywood actor Dino Morea appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) here on Thursday to record his statement in connection with a money laundering probe linked to an alleged Rs 65 crore Mithi river desilting scam, officials said.
Morea reached the ED office situated at Ballard Estate in south Mumbai at around 10.30 am after being summoned by the federal agency, an official said.
The actor's statement will be recorded as some financial transactions have been found allegedly linked to him and some accused persons, arrested earlier by the Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing in connection with the Mithi river desilting scam, the official said.
A large number of media persons were present outside the probe agency's office.
Earlier on June 12, Morea was questioned by the ED officials for several hours.
The ED on June 6 conducted searches at more than 15 locations in Mumbai, and Kochi in Kerala, including the premises of Dino Morea in Bandra (West) area here, those linked to his brother Santino, some Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, and contractors among others, official sources earlier said.
The searches were conducted in Kochi as one of the companies that provided desilting equipment to the BMC -- Matprop Technical Services Pvt Ltd -- is based in this city, they said.
The investigation is being conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the sources had said.
The ED case stems from a Mumbai Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) FIR filed in May against 13 persons, including contractors and civic officials, for an alleged Rs 65.54 crore scam in tenders awarded from 2017-2023 for desilting of the Mithi river, which flows through Mumbai and acts as a stormwater drainage channel for the metro city.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led undivided Shiv Sena controlled the cash-rich BMC from 1997 till the party's split in 2022. After the expiry of the general body in 2022, the civic body was controlled by the state government, which was then headed by Eknath Shinde.
It was alleged by the police in their complaint that BMC officials tailored the tender for the desilting contract in such a way that it benefited a particular supplier of machinery, and the contractors reportedly generated fraudulent bills for transporting the sludge out of Mumbai.
The 49-year-old actor and his brother were questioned by the Mumbai Police EOW in this case last month also.
The Morea brothers, it is understood, were questioned by the police about their alleged links with alleged middleman Ketan Kadam, arrested in the case along with another accused, Jai Joshi, apart from some financial transactions made in a company linked to Santino.
Kadam and Joshi, according to police, were involved in the renting out of 'silt pusher' machines and multi-purpose amphibious pontoon machines to contractors who were carrying out Mithi river desilting work.
The plan to desilt the river was planned by the Mumbai civic authorities following the 2005 floods, which brought the city to a grinding halt.
In 2021, the ED had attached Morea's assets as part of a money laundering investigation linked to an alleged bank fraud case against Gujarat-based pharmaceutical company Sterling Biotech and its promoters.

Markets regulator Sebi is looking into any "egregious violations" by senior management of IndusInd Bank, which has been hit by accounting fraud, its chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said on Thursday.
Pandey said the issues at IndusInd Bank will be dealt with by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), but Sebi is also looking at securities market violations by the officials of the crisis-hit bank.
"RBI is looking into whatever Sebi has to do in relation to... whatever Sebi's remit is... Sebi is doing... If there are any egregious violations by anyone in their capacity, Sebi is looking into it," Pandey told reporters on the sidelines of an event organised by industry body Assocham.
On Wednesday, IndusInd Bank's board said it suspects involvement of certain employees in the fraud and directed the bank to report the matter to investigative agencies and regulatory authorities.
Fraud in the derivatives and microfinance portfolio as well as balance sheet disclosures have rattled the private sector bank. The bank, that has seen top-level resignations, has ordered an internal audit review and is undergoing a forensics probe.
The internal audit report of the bank revealed "involvement of senior Bank officials, including former Key Management Personnel (KMP), in overriding key internal controls".
The bank has reported likely involvement of the senior management in the accounting fraud to the central government.
On April 29, CEO Sumant Kathpalia and Deputy CEO Arun Khurana resigned from the bank, following which IndusInd Board appointed a Committee of Executives to oversee the operations of the bank, till a new MD and CEO assume charge.

DU forms panel to probe Jan 27 ruckus outside Arts Faculty over BBC film screening

In a notification, the university said the vice-chancellor has constituted the committee to enforce discipline and maintain law and order on the campus.

The Delhi University on Saturday formed a 7-member committee to investigate the ruckus outside the Arts Faculty building over the screening of a BBC documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots.
The committee, headed by DU Proctor Rajini Abbi, has been asked to submit its report to Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh by 5 pm on January 30.
In a notification, the university said the vice-chancellor has constituted the committee to enforce discipline and maintain law and order on the campus.
The other members of the committee are Professor Ajay Kumar Singh of the Department of Commerce, Professor Manoj Kumar Singh, Joint Proctor, Professor Sanjoy Roy of the Department of Social Work, Professor Rama, Principal of Hansraj College, Professor Dinesh Khattar, Principal of Kirorimal College, and Gaje Singh, Chief Security Officer, it added.
"The Committee may specifically look into the incident of the 27th of January, 2023 which occurred outside the Faculty of Arts and opposite gate No. 4, University of Delhi," the notification said.
A commotion erupted at the Delhi University on Friday as students attempted to screen the controversial BBC documentary, even as police and the university administration intervened to scuttle the move.
Twenty-four students affiliated with the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) were detained from the Delhi University's Arts Faculty and a heavy police deployment was maintained in the North Campus.
The university claimed that "outsiders" were trying to screen the documentary and the police was called to maintain law and order.&nbsp;

Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Twitter, in what is the government's first statement on the deaths of children in Uzbekistan after consuming a cough syrup made by an Indian manufacturer.
In a series of tweets on December 29, the Health Minister informed that a probe has been launched on the matter and samples of the cough syrup have been sent to a testing laboratory in Chandigarh.

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has initiated a probe in connection with the death of 18 children in Uzbekistan allegedly linked to a cough syrup manufactured by an Indian firm, official sources said on Thursday.
The health ministry of Uzbekistan has claimed that the children who died had consumed cough syrup 'Doc-1 Max' manufactured by Noida-based Marion Biotech.
Hasan Harris, legal representative of Mario Biotech, said the governments of both countries is looking into the matter and inquiring.
"There is no problem from our end and no issue in testing. We have been there for the past ten years. Once the government report will come, we will look into it. For now the manufacturing has stopped," Harris said.
According to the ministry, chemical ethylene glycol was found in a batch of syrup during laboratory tests.
Sources said the Drugs Controller General of India has sought more information regarding the incident from the Uzbek regulator. &nbsp; An inspection jointly conducted by the central drugs regulatory team of north zone and state drugs regulatory team was also taken during which samples of the drugs were also lifted.
Earlier this year, death of 70 children in Gambia was linked to cough syrups manufactured by Haryana-based Maiden Pharmaceuticals following which the Haryana based unit was shut for violation of manufacturing standards. &nbsp;However, later the samples tested in a government laboratory in India were found to be complying with specifications.

The ED on Friday launched fresh raids at about 40 locations across the country as part of a money laundering investigation into alleged irregularities in the now scrapped Delhi Excise Policy, official sources said.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) case of money laundering in the excise policy stems from a CBI FIR in which Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and some bureaucrats have been named as accused. The excise policy has been rolled back now.
The CBI had conducted raids in the case on August 19, covering the Delhi residences of Sisodia (50), IAS officer and former Delhi excise commissioner Arava Gopi Krishna, and 19 other locations across seven states and Union Territories. Sisodia holds multiple portfolios in the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government including excise and education.
The ED is probing if alleged irregularities were done in the formulation and execution of the Delhi Excise Policy brought out in November last year and if some alleged "proceeds of crime" in terms of tainted money was generated by the accused. &nbsp;The agency also is expected to question AAP leader and minister Satyendar Jain in the Tihar jail in connection with this case on Friday after it obtained permission from a local court to do so.&nbsp;

In a fresh development, the Centre has recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of BJP leader and actor Sonali Phogat. Her family has welcomed the Centre&rsquo;s move.&nbsp;
The Union Home Ministry on Monday handed over the case to the CBI after Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recommended it in a letter earlier on Monday. Phogat&rsquo;s death remains mired in controversy since Aug 23.&nbsp;
So far, Sonali&rsquo;s aides Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh and three others have been arrested in connection with the case. Phogat, 42, died on the intervening night of Aug 22 and 23 in Goa. The police initially registered a case of accidental death, however the family alleged foul play into her death demanding CBI probe
&ldquo;Our family has been demanding a CBI investigation in this matter right from the start". The family suspects a "conspiracy" behind her death and only a CBI probe can bring the truth out&rdquo;, said Rinku Dhaka, Sonali&rsquo;s brother.&nbsp;
Besides, On Sept 11, members of 35 Khap Panchayats from Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh came together to support demands of Phogat&rsquo;s family.&nbsp;
Phogat&rsquo;s family&rsquo;s claims fell in line with the autopsy report that mentioned blunt injury marks on her body two days after her death.&nbsp;
It was then the police began to investigate the alleged murder of Phogat. During investigation a shocking CCTV footage from Goa&rsquo;s Curlies restaurant hinted at foul play. The footage showed Sonali staggering out of the pub holding onto one of her aides. She was declared dead hours later at a hospital.&nbsp;
It was revealed that Phogat was administered drugs by her aides. So far, Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh and three others have been arrested in connection with the case.&nbsp;

A government medical team bent rules to administer&nbsp;covid vaccines to Ujjain BJP MP Anil Firojiya's family, staff and supporters at his residence on Friday. The incident came to light after one BJP worker, Kapil Katariya, posted a picture of getting the jab at Firojiya&rsquo;s home and thanked him.
