India testing samples of cough syrup, in touch with Uzbek authorities says Health Minister

India's Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation has been in touch with Uzbekistan's national drugs regulator since December 27,

Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Twitter, in what is the government's first statement on the deaths of children in Uzbekistan after consuming a cough syrup made by an Indian manufacturer.

In a series of tweets on December 29, the Health Minister informed that a probe has been launched on the matter and samples of the cough syrup have been sent to a testing laboratory in Chandigarh.

A joint inspection of Marion Biotech’s Noida facility was also carried out by UP Drug Control and the CDSCO team and further action as appropriate would be initiated based on the inspection report.
