 Britain's Prince Charles is facing more questions over his charities after a newspaper reported that one of his funds accepted a 1 million pound (USD 1.2 million) donation from relatives of Osama bin Laden.
The Sunday Times reported that the Prince of Wales's Charitable Fund received the money in 2013 from Bakr bin Laden, patriarch of the large and wealthy Saudi family, and his brother Shafiq.
Both are half-brothers of the former al-Qaida leader, who was killed by US special forces in Pakistan in 2011.
The newspaper said advisers had urged the heir to the throne not to take the donation.
Charles' Clarence House office disputed that but confirmed the donation had been made. It said the decision to accept the money was taken by the charity's trustees, not the prince, and “thorough due diligence was undertaken in accepting this donation”.
The fund's chairman, Ian Cheshire, also said the donation was agreed “wholly” by the five trustees at the time, and “any attempt to suggest otherwise is misleading and inaccurate”.
The Prince of Wales's Charitable Fund was founded in 1979 to “transform lives and build sustainable communities”, and gives grants to a wide variety of projects in Britain and around the world.
Charles, 73, has faced a series of claims about the operation of his charities.
Last month the Sunday Times reported he had accepted bags of cash containing USD 3 million from Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, the former prime minister of Qatar.
London police are currently investigating a separate allegation that people associated with another of the prince's charities, the Prince's Foundation, offered to help a Saudi billionaire secure honours and citizenship in return for donations.
Clarence House has said Charles had no knowledge of any such offer.

Flags are flying at half-mast as the United Kingdom begins mourning for its longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. 
Her coffin will be taken to Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh from the Balmoral Castle in Aberdeen where she died.
Her coffin will then be brought to St Giles Cathedral where it will be open for public to pay their last respects for 24 hours. 
Her mortal remains will then be brought to the Buckingham Palace in London.
After 4 to 5 days. in a grand procession, the Queen’s coffin will be taken to Westminister Hall where it will be kept for 5 days for the public to bid her farewell. 
The Queen’s funeral is expected to be held 10 days after her death at the Westminister Abbey, the royal church. 
Two minutes silence will be observed across UK  before the funeral service. After that the coffin will be taken to her final resting place, the  St George’s Chapel inside Windsor Castle. She will be buried there with her husband Prince Philip and her ancestors. 
It is a bittersweet moment for the United Kingdom. While it mourns, preparations will also begin to formalise the accession of King Charles, who became the country’s new monarch the moment the queen died.

BBC director-general Tim Davie said the corporation has agreed to pay "substantial damages" to Pettifer. The broadcaster had "failed to ask the tough questions" about how the Diana interview was obtained, he added.

As the United Kingdom marked the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's rule on Sunday, the queen looked to the future of the monarchy.
In remarks delivered in time for Sunday morning's front pages, the queen expressed a “sincere wish'' that Prince Charles' wife, Camilla, should be known as “Queen Consort” when her son succeeds her as expected.
With those words the monarch sought to answer once and for all questions about the status of Camilla, who was initially shunned by fans of the late Princess Diana, Charles' first wife.
The popular princess died in a Paris car crash in 1997, five years after the couple separated in a messy public split.
But the public mood has softened since Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005.
Now known as the Duchess of Cornwall, the 74-year-old Camilla has taken on roles at more than 100 charities, focusing on a wide range of issues including promoting literacy, supporting victims of domestic violence and helping the elderly.
Her down-to-Earth style and sense of humour eventually won over many Britons. Her warmth softened Charles' stuffy image and made him appear more approachable, if not happier, as he cut ribbons, unveiled plaques and waited for his chance to reign.
Charles, 73, has long made it clear that he wants Camilla to be known as queen when he ultimately succeeds his mother on the throne.
In his own message congratulating the queen on her long years of service, Charles thanked his mother for her support.
“We are deeply conscious of the honour represented by my mother's wish,'' they said.

As the United Kingdom marked the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's rule on Sunday, the queen looked to the future of the monarchy.
In remarks delivered in time for Sunday morning's front pages, the queen expressed a &ldquo;sincere wish'' that Prince Charles' wife, Camilla, should be known as &ldquo;Queen Consort&rdquo; when her son succeeds her as expected.
With those words the monarch sought to answer once and for all questions about the status of Camilla, who was initially shunned by fans of the late Princess Diana, Charles' first wife.
The popular princess died in a Paris car crash in 1997, five years after the couple separated in a messy public split.
But the public mood has softened since Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005.
Now known as the Duchess of Cornwall, 74-year-old Camilla has taken on roles at more than 100 charities, focusing on a wide range of issues including promoting literacy, supporting victims of domestic violence and helping the elderly.

Her down-to-Earth style and sense of humour eventually won over many Britons. Her warmth softened Charles' stuffy image and made him appear more approachable, if not happier, as he cut ribbons, unveiled plaques and waited for his chance to reign.
Charles, 73, has long made it clear that he wants Camilla to be known as queen when he ultimately succeeds his mother on the throne.
In his own message congratulating the queen on her long years of service, Charles thanked his mother for her support.
&ldquo;We are deeply conscious of the honour represented by my mother's wish,'' they said.
&ldquo;As we have sought together to serve and support Her Majesty and the people of our communities, my darling wife has been my own steadfast support throughout.'' The queen's comments are remarkable in that they brought back memories of one of the lowest moments of her 70 years on the throne.
In backing Charles and Camilla, the queen remembered the support she received from her husband, Prince Philip, who died last year after decades at her side, as well as the role her mother played as the wife of a king.
&ldquo;I am fortunate to have had the steadfast and loving support of my family.
