An explosion occurred onboard a passenger train in Pakistan on 16 February 2023, as per reports.
The blast took place on Jaffer Express, travelling from Peshawar to Quetta. This was the second incident targeting Jaffer Express in 3 weeks.
The explosion happened when the train was passing Chichawatni railway station, according to Pakistan's ARY News. The blast occurred in bogey number 6 of the economy class, as per sources quoted in reports.
At least two people died and more than 5 were injured, according to initial reports.
On 30 January, Jaffer Express had suffered an explosion which had injured at least 8 passengers. Two bogeys of the train had also been derailed.

On January 30, a Taliban suicide bomber blew himself up during the afternoon prayers in a Peshawar mosque, killing 101 people and injuring more than 200 others. The bomber disguised himself in a police uniform to sneak into the high-security zone and was riding a motorcycle with a helmet and mask on, a top police official said previously.
The Peshawar mosque suicide attack conspiracy was hatched in Afghanistan and funded by the intelligence agency based in Kabul, investigating officials said.
The motorcycle used in the blast was sold twice in Sarki Gate, Peshawar's bustling market, officials said.
Police said they have arrested the sellers of the motorcycle.

Meanwhile, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Peshawar has announced a bounty of PKR 10 million for the facilitators of the suicide bomber.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Police Chief Moazzam Jah Ansari said the suicide bomber's identity has been identified through his DNA samples.
The bomber left his helmet at the gate before entering the highly-secured mosque which was captured in the CCTV footage.
"The facilitators behind this heinous attack will be arrested soon," he said. Pakistan has been hit by a wave of terrorist attacks, mostly in the country's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, but also in Balochistan and Punjab.
The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
However, the outfit later distanced itself from the attack.
During the Apex Committee meeting held earlier this month, Pakistan&rsquo;s civil and military leadership decided to seek Afghan Taliban chief Haibuttallah Akhundzada&rsquo;s intervention to control the TTP.&nbsp;

The powerful blast occurred inside the mosque in the Police Lines area around 1.40 pm when worshippers, which included personnel of the police, army and bomb disposal squad -- were offering the Zuhr (afternoon) prayers.
The suicide bomber who was present in the front row blew himself up, causing the roof to collapse on the worshippers, officials said.

A police official said that a portion of the mosque collapsed and several people were believed to be under it.
The TTP, set up as an umbrella group of several militant outfits in 2007, called off a ceasefire with the federal government and ordered its militants to stage terrorist attacks across the country.
The group, which is believed to be close to al-Qaeda, has been blamed for several deadly attacks across Pakistan, including an attack on army headquarters in 2009, assaults on military bases, and the 2008 bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad.

Lady Reading Hospital officials said 46 people have died so far. However, the Peshawar Police has released a list of 38 victims.
There were mostly policemen among the injured.
A brother of the slain commander of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Umar Khalid Khurasani claimed that the suicide attack was part of the revenge attack for his brother who was killed last August in Afghanistan.

At least 50 people were injured when a suicide attacker blew himself up at a mosque here in the capital of Pakistan's restive province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, officials said.
The blast occurred near the Police Lines area around 1.40 pm when the Zuhr prayers were being offered, the Dawn newspaper reported.
According to security officials, the suicide attacker was present in the front row during the prayers when he exploded himself, injuring dozens of people offering prayers.
The injured are being shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, the officials said.
Hospital sources said 13 of those injured were in critical condition.
An emergency has been imposed in the locality and the area has been cordoned off.&nbsp;

Minister Khurram Dastgir said in the morning that power would be fully restored within 12 hours. Speaking to Geo News, he said, "In winter, as the demand for electricity reduces nationwide and as an economic measure, we temporarily close down our power generation systems at night. However, when the systems were turned on in the morning today, frequency variation and voltage fluctuation was observed in the south of the country... somewhere between Dadu and Jamshoro."

According to diplomats based in Kabul and New Delhi, the needle of suspicion for the attack on Saleh is towards the Haqqani network as the Zadran tribe.
