JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar took oath as Bihar Chief Minister for a record 10th time at Gandhi Maidan, with 22 ministers sworn in amid NDA leaders&rsquo; presence.

JD(U) president Nitish Kumar was on Thursday sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record tenth time at a grand ceremony, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah among those who were present at the swearing-in.
BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda and the party's in-charge for the recently held state polls Dharmendra Pradhan were also among those who had flown down to attend the ceremony, where Kumar, along with a 21-member cabinet, was administered the oath of office by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan.
Kumar resigned as chief minister on Wednesday and staked claim to form the new government before Governor Khan.
"My heartiest congratulations to all the colleagues who took oath as ministers in the Bihar government. This is a splendid team of dedicated leaders, which will take Bihar to new heights. My best wishes to all of them!" Modi said on X.
Modi, whose charisma had played a big role in the NDA's massive victory in the assembly polls, regaled the crowds when, towards the end of the ceremony, he rotated his 'gamchha' in his signature style.
A gigantic stage had been set up at the Gandhi Maidan, where the attendees included chief ministers from several states ruled by the NDA, prominent among them being N Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh) and Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh), Devendra Fadnavis (Maharashtra), Himanta Biswa Sarma (Assam) and Rekha Gupta (Delhi).
Prominent among those who took the oath on the occasion were Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, the leader and deputy leader, respectively, of the BJP legislative party, both of whom were deputy CMs in the previous NDA government in the state.
At least three ministers are members of the state legislative council. They are JD(U) national general secretary Ashok Choudhary, one of the most trusted aides of the CM, state BJP president Dilip Jaiswal and Hindustani Awam Morcha chief Santosh Kumar Suman.
Shreyasi Singh, an award-winning shooter who got elected from Jamui for a second consecutive term, was a new entrant into the cabinet.
Rama Nishad, wife of former Muzaffarpur MP Ajay Nishad, who had joined the BJP in the thick of elections and got elected from Aurai, has also been inducted into the state cabinet.
Another ninth-term MLA Bijendra Prasad Yadav, from the JD(U), was back in the state cabinet.
None of the inductees were from Union minister Chirag Paswan's LJPRV and Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha's RLM, which have 19 and four berths, respectively.
In the outgoing government, the BJP had 15 ministers, JD(U) 12, including CM Nitish Kumar, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) had one, and one minister who was an Independent candidate.

A school was set on fire by a mob in Patna's Digha area on Friday after a four-year-old student was found dead on the campus, police said.
The boy did not return home from school on Thursday. When the family approached the school to know if he was there, the authorities denied it, they said.
In the night, the body of the boy was found on the school campus as his family frantically searched for him everywhere.
"Angry family members and locals gathered outside the school on Friday morning and set the building on fire. They also tried to block the traffic by burning tyres on the road," said a police officer.
"The fire was immediately brought under control," he said.
Three people were detained in connection with the death of the child, police said, adding that the CCTV footage of the school was being analysed.
"A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. All evidence collected from the spot is being forensically examined," Senior Superintendent of Police Rajeev Mishra told PTI.
District Magistrate Shirsat Kapil Ashok said, "The district education officer has sought a detailed report about the incident from the officials concerned in the area."&nbsp;

As the investigation into the alleged paper leak in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) continues, Patna Police have made 13 arrests over the last two days in connection with the case.
The individuals arrested include two paper setters, their two associates, the father of two examinees, the mother of an examinee, and a driver. Furthermore, four individuals who took the NEET exam have also been arrested, facing charges of breach of trust and conspiracy under relevant sections.
Patna SSP Rajeev Mishra stated to the Indian Express on Tuesday that the allegations of the paper leak are under investigation. He emphasised that it's premature to comment, given the potential impact on the futures of over 24 lakh students.
The all-India level NEET exam was conducted on May 5, adding urgency to the investigation.

The Patna High Court has observed that the use of "filthy language" by an estranged couple, who call each other names like "bhoot" (ghost) and "pishach" (vampire), does not tantamount to "cruelty".
The remarks came from a single-judge bench of Justice Bibek Chaudhuri, who was hearing a petition filed by Sahdeo Gupta and his son Naresh Kumar Gupta, both residents of Bokaro in adjoining Jharkhand.
The father-son duo had challenged an order passed by courts in Bihar's Nalanda district, on a complaint filed by Naresh Gupta's divorced wife in Nawada, her native place.
The complainant had filed a case against her husband and father-in-law, way back in 1994, accusing them of physical and material torture to press for the demand for a car in dowry.
The case was later transferred to Nalanda from Nawada upon a prayer by the father-son duo, who ended up being slapped with rigorous imprisonment for a year, by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, in 2008 and their appeal before the Additional Sessions Court was rejected 10 years later.
In the meantime, the couple was granted divorce by the Jharkhand High Court.
Opposing the petition filed before the Patna High Court, the divorced woman&rsquo;s advocate pleaded that "a lady, in the 21st century" was called "bhoot" and "pishach" by her in-laws, which was "a form of immense cruelty".
The court, however, observed that it was "not in a position to accept such an argument".
"In matrimonial relations, especially in failed matrimonial relations", there have been instances of "both the husband and the wife" having "abused each other" with "filthy language".
"However, all such accusations do not come within the veil of cruelty,&rdquo; it said.
The high court also noted that she had been "harassed" and "brutally tortured" by "all the accused persons", but there were "no specific, distinct allegations against either petitioner".
The judgements passed by the lower courts were, accordingly, quashed though there was "no order as to costs".

The administration, however, maintained that "mild" force was used to disperse the BJP activists when they tried to breach the barricades put up at Dak Bungalow crossing and proceed towards "a prohibited area which houses many VIP installations, including offices of various political parties, the High Court and Raj Bhavan".

Debunking news that claimed the vessel is stuck in Chhapra, Bandopadhyaya said that the Ganga Villas has reached Patna as per schedule.
"The Ganga Villas reached Patna as per schedule. There is absolutely no truth in the news that the vessel is stuck in Chhapra. The vessel will continue its onwards journey as per schedule," IWAI said in a tweet quoting Bandopadhyaya.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week flagged off 'MV Ganga Vilas' cruise from Varanasi, which will travel 3,200 km in 51 days to reach Dibrugarh via Bangladesh, sailing across 27 river systems.
The 51-day luxury journey covering five Indian states, and Bangladesh will cost Rs 50-55 lakh per passenger.
However, one will have to wait for more than a year to get a suite in the luxury ship, which will cruise across 17 river systems as it is fully booked till March 2024.

The flagship Ganga Vilas Cruise, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week, got stuck on the third day of its 51-day journey in Bihar's Chhapra due to shallow water in the Ganga, officials said today. The cruise which was scheduled to dock at the shore for the tourists to visit Chirand, an archaeological site, got stuck because of water deficiency in the Ganges near the Doriganj area of the district.
Chirand Saran, situated 11 km southeast of Chhapra near Doriganj Bazar, is the most important archaeological site of the district. Stupanuma fillings built on the banks of the Ghaghra river are seen to be associated with Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim influences. However, owing to the shallow water at the shore, it was difficult to bring the cruise to the shore, officials said.
Upon receipt of the information, the SDRF team reached the spot to rescue the tourists through a small boat so that they do not face difficulties in reaching Chirand Saran.

Chhapra's CO Satendra Singh who is a part of the arrangement-making team said that adequate arrangements have been made for the tourists in Chirand.
"SDRF team is stationed at the ghat so that immediate action can be taken on any untoward situation. Due to less water, there is a problem in bringing the cruise to the shore. Therefore, efforts are being made to bring tourists through small boats," he said.
Ganga Vilas Cruise also has special features. Its speed is up to 12 kilometres per hour upstream and 20 kilometres downstream. The cruise has an RO system for drinking water, along with a sewage treatment plant. The cruise has all the necessary facilities for the convenience of the people and their needs. Its fare in India is ₹ 25,000 a day, while in Bangladesh the fare is ₹ 50,000 a day.
PM Modi had flagged off the cruise from Varanasi on January 13.
The luxury triple-deck cruise will travel on the world's longest waterway from Varanasi to Dibrugarh in Assam. The cruise has a capacity of 80 passengers with 18 suits.
This cruise will go on an adventurous journey for 51 days and pass through Bangladesh for 15 days.
Following this, it will go to Dibrugarh through the Brahmaputra river in Assam.
The luxury cruise will cover a distance of more than 3,200 kms and pass through 5 states in India and Bangladesh.
This cruise will pass through a total of 27 river systems of UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Bangladesh, and Assam. The cruise will pass through three major rivers Ganga, Meghna, and Brahmaputra.
The cruise will enter the Bhagirathi, Hooghly, Bidyavati, Malata, and Sundarbans river systems in Bengal.
In Bangladesh, it will pass through Meghna, Padma, and Jamuna in Bangladesh and then enter the Brahmaputra in Assam.
According to an official statement, the 51 days cruise is planned with visits to 50 tourist spots including World Heritage Sights, National Parks, river Ghats, and major cities like Patna in Bihar, Sahibganj in Jharkhand, Kolkata in West Bengal, Dhaka in Bangladesh and Guwahati in Assam.

Doctors and staff at government hospitals in Bihar&rsquo;s Patna were caught off guard when state Deputy Chief minister Tejashwi Yadav conducted a surprise check.&nbsp;
The young politician who is also the state health minister turned up wearing casual clothes past midnight to take a stock of conditions at the hospitals.&nbsp;
The hospitals where the deputy CM conducted surprise checks included PMCH, the state's largest government health facility, besides the hospitals at Gardiner Road and Gardani Bagh.
During his visits, Yadav was visibly displeased at the lack of cleanliness on the premises, poor availability of medicines and the apparent indifference towards their duty by those on the night roster.
He even pulled up Patna Medical College&rsquo;s superintendent who was all set to go to bed in his office during duty hours moments before Tejashwi Yadav arrived.&nbsp;
Notably, the health department had remained with the BJP for the entire period and Nitish Kumar remained an NDA ally.

Candidates who passed the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/politics/dalit-student-death-congress-red-faced-as-rajasthan-mla-quits-claiming-no-justice-in-letter-to-cm-1660618591771">Bihar Teacher Eligibility Test</a> (BTET) and <a href="https://www.editorji.com/crime-news/dalit-boy-dies-after-being-beaten-by-teacher-for-touching-water-pot-1660456947868">Central Teacher Eligibility Test </a>(CTET) in 2019 were among the protesters demanding that the primary teachers' recruitment notification be issued.&nbsp;
On Monday, police resorted to lathi-charge and the use of water cannons to disperse protesters. A video of an official brutally thrashing a young demonstrator holding the tricolour went viral.
However, Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh claimed that 'mild force' was used by the police to control crowd. He also said that the protesters included workers of the Jan Adhikar Party, who were trying to proceed towards the Raj Bhavan--the official residence of the governor.

An Indian army soldier was shot dead by bike-borne criminals in broad daylight in Bihar’s Patna on Thursday. The soldier was home on leave and was on his way to Patliputra Station in the west end of the city when the incident took place. The victim was posted in Arunachal Pradesh. 
According to the reports, the soldier was accompanied by his brother when bike-borne attackers overtook his bike on the pretext of asking for an address. The soldier was then shot in the head. He died on the spot. Later, the men tried to shoot the soldier's brother but he managed to escape. 
The police have initiated a probe into the incident and are examining the CCTV footage. The cause of shooting is yet to be confirmed.

The father wanted his daughter to live with him. This was the dispute. His wife was not living with him. Rajiv used to do nothing. He used to handle the household.
