Actor Pankaj Tripathi's brother-in-law, Rajesh Tiwari, passed away in a car accident in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, on April 20 and his sister is currently being treated in a hospital after suffering multiple injuries.
Rajesh and his wife Sabita were traveling from Gopalganj to Kolkata when the accident occurred on NH-19.
Now, CCTV footage of the accident has surfaced online which shows the car ramming into a road divider in the middle of a busy street.
Rakesh Tiwari, Pankaj Tripathi's brother-in-law, was allegedly driving the car during the accident. Police report that he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a divider on the Delhi-Kolkata National Highway-2.
Pankaj has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
The tragic incident occurred less than a year after the actor's father passed away. In August 2023, Pankaj's father, Pandit Banaras Tiwari, died at the age of 99 in their village of Gopalganj. Pankaj was visibly mourning his father's death at that time.

In a round of sad news, Pankaj Tripathi's brother-in-law died in an accident in Jharkhand. The actor's sister was also in the car and is critical. She is currently being treated. Pankaj Tripathi&rsquo;s brother-in-law Rakesh Tiwari and sister Sabita Tiwari were headed to West Bengal from Gopalganj district of Bihar.
<h3>Pankaj Tripathi's family meets with accident</h3>
According to PTI, the accident occurred at around 4.30 pm at Nirsa Bazar on the Delhi-Kolkata National Highway-2. The car the couple was travelling in hit a divider, a police officer told the news agency. As per reports, Sabita is undergoing treatment at the Dhanbad Medical College Hospital.&nbsp;
Sabita suffered a leg fracture, and is out of danger, SNMMCH Emergency HOD Dr Dinesh Kumar Gindauria told news agency PTI.
As per reports, Rakesh Tiwari was himself driving the car when it lost control and hit a road divider. Police are investigating the case to ascertain the exact reason of the accident.

In an earlier interview with Hindustan Times, Pankaj talked about his father. He shared, &lsquo;My father wanted me to become a doctor. The place where I hail from &mdash; a village in Gopalganj in North Bihar &mdash; people, only know two professions: an engineer or a doctor. I am a son of a farmer. My village is [situated so much in the] interior that there are still no well-built roads there.&rsquo;
He added, &lsquo;They didn&rsquo;t have any unfulfilled dreams, which they would have wanted me to fulfill. The only concern they had was whether I would be able to earn rozi-roti. I told them that if I went to Delhi (Pankaj is an alumnus of National School of Drama), I could even get a government job. Now, the thing with middle-class people is that sarkaari job sunke unhe lagta hai theek hoga. So my father said, &lsquo;yes&rsquo;.&rsquo;
Earlier in August, in an interview with Mashable, the actor added that his father is not aware of his acting work. He said, &lsquo;He is not too proud of my achievements. My father does not even know what and how I do in cinema. To date, he has not seen how a movie theatre looks from the inside. Actor Pankaj Tripathi, who is currently in Lucknow to shoot for his forthcoming movie 'Main Atal Hoon', met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on June 8 along with the makers of the film.
Yogi Adityanath shared a photo from their meeting on Instagram. He wrote in Hindi, 'Courtesy meeting with famous actor Mr Pankaj Tripathi, film producer Mr Vinod Bhanushali and film director Mr Ravi Jadhav in Lucknow today.'
The photo was seemingly clicked at the CM's office. The 'Main Atal Hoon' team reportedly discussed the biopic on the late former PM of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and shoot plans in the city.

Actor Pankaj Triptahi reacted on the ongoing protests demanding the rollback of the Agnipath scheme on Tuesday and said that people have the right to protest in a democracy but it should be done in a peaceful manner. 'If in any protest, there is damage to the government’s property, then it means damage to the country’s property… In this country everyone has the right to speak their mind and peacefully protest. That’s how it should be,” Pankaj said during a press conference in Delhi.
Protests erupted in several states after the Central Government announced the new military recruitment scheme on June 14. The scheme provides for the admission of youths in the age group of 17.5 years to 21 years for a four-year stint with a provision to retain 25 per cent of each specific batch for 15 more years. Those who will be enrolled in regular cadre will be given the ex-servicemen status.
After violent protests against the scheme, the Centre extended the upper age limit to 23 years for recruitment this year.
