The ten days are collectively known as "Onam Celebrations," and they are as follows:&nbsp;

Atham: The first day marks the beginning of the festivities. People start creating Pookalam (floral rangoli) on this day, which grows in size and complexity over the next ten days.&nbsp;
Chithira: On the second day, people add more flowers to the Pookalam. Preparations for the upcoming celebrations intensify.&nbsp;
Chodhi: The third day sees the addition of more flowers to the Pookalam. Families start shopping for new clothes and jewelry.&nbsp;
Vishakam: The fourth day is considered an auspicious day to begin preparations for the grand feast known as Onasadya. Markets are bustling with people buying groceries and ingredients.&nbsp;
Anizham: The fifth day is notable for the start of the famous Vallamkali (boat races) in various parts of Kerala.&nbsp;
Thriketa: On the sixth day, families come together to visit temples and offer prayers. The Pookalam continues to grow in size.&nbsp;
Moolam: The seventh day marks the start of the traditional Onam Sadhya (feast) in some places, and more cultural programs and events take place.&nbsp;

Anoop said that he was not expecting to win so didn't watch the lottery results on TV.

An auto-rickshaw driver in Kerala won a ₹25-crore lottery on 18 September 2022. Anoop, who was planning to go to Malaysia to work as a chef, won the Onam bumper lottery just a day after his application for a ₹3 lakh loan was approved.
The <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/local/watch-1-2-3-4-5-27-people-seen-coming-out-of-an-auto-rickshaw-1657590999842">auto-rickshaw driver</a> had initially selected a different ticket, and changed it later. The second ticket turned out to be the bumper winner.
Anoop said that he was not expecting to win so didn't watch the lottery results on TV. He later saw the results on his phone, and was so surprised that he double-checked the numbers with his wife and the lottery-ticket seller.
He has now scrapped his plans to go to Malaysia. With the massive winnings, Anoop said that he will pay off his debts, build a house, help his relatives, do charity, and start some hotel-related work.
Anoop said that he has been buying lottery tickets for the last 22 years and has won amounts ranging from a few hundreds to a maximum of ₹5,000.

The video, which is being widely circulated and viewed on various social media platforms, shows several Hijab wearing students of Wandoor Government Girls Higher Secondary School here wearing sarees and dancing to music, along with their other school mates, as part of the Onam celebrations held in their institutions.
It is being appreciated and highlighted by thousands on social media with some even comparing it to the Hijab row in the neighbouring state of Karnataka earlier this year when girls wearing the headgear were denied entry into some institutions.
One such twitterati -- who goes by the name of Comrade Mahabali -- tweeted, "Onam celebration at Wandoor higher secondary school, Malappuram. Dedicated to the low lives who says Onam is a Hindu festival and to our neighbour state that denied education to Hijab wearing girls." Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is one among the thousands who have liked this tweet.
His party colleague and MLA from Wandoor, A P Anil Kumar shared the viral video on his Facebook page.
Another tweet by one Ashok Swain, who claims to be the Professor of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University in Sweden, said, "Onam being celebrated by Hijab-wearing Muslim girls in a school in Kerala - Onam is harvesting festival of people of Kerala, not of Hindus only as Hindu right-wing claims!" This too has received thousands of likes.
Onam is being celebrated with zeal and fervour in the state this year after festivities were restricted for the last two years owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Drawing from Hindu mythology and manuscripts, the day marks the grand homecoming of the famous king Mahabali to Kerala. The festivities last for ten days and involve elaborate decorations, music, dance and delicious food. This year it will be celebrated on 21st August, with festivities that began on 12th August and will conclude on 23rd August.
Each day has a distinct name and involves different activities as a mark of celebration.
The first day (12th August) is known as Atham and people begin the celebrations by decorating their homes with yellow flowers called Pookalam.
On the second day (13th August), Chithira is when people clean their houses.
On Chodi, the third day (14th August), people shop and exchange gifts with their loved ones.
The fourth day (15th August) is called Vishakam that marks the preparation of Onam Sadhya.
On the fifth day (16th August), known as Anizham, is when people hold the annual boat race known as the Vallamkali boat race.
The sixth day (17th August) which is called Thriketta is when schools are shut, and preparations begin in full swing.
Moolam, the seventh day (18th August) marks the beginning of Onam Sadhya and sees several performances all over the state.
The eighth day (19th August) of Onam is called Pooradam and on this day the devotees make clay idols and place them over the Pookalam.
On the ninth day (20th August) which is also known as Uthradom is when people start preparing festive meals and is the penultimate day to Thiruvonam.
The tenth day (21st August) is called Thiruvonam and is the most important of all the days. People offer prayers and enjoy a special feast on this day.
