The study used a statistical model to make the prediction. The finding shows that the next surge is to persist for approximately four months.

The daily positivity rate is 10.99 per cent, the data also showed.
The overall death toll now stands at 498,983, and the nationwide tally jumped to 41,803,318, according to the ministry data. The steep rise in the daily death toll since Wednesday was result of Kerala adding a backlog of deaths.

India logged&nbsp;2,85,914&nbsp;new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to&nbsp;4,00,85,116,&nbsp;according to the&nbsp;Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.
The&nbsp;death toll has climbed to&nbsp;4,91,127 with 665 fresh fatalities, the data updated&nbsp;at 8 am stated.
The active cases have decreased to 22,23,018&nbsp;and comprise 5.55 per cent of the total infections,&nbsp;while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has decreased to 93.23 per cent, the ministry said.

In view of the surge in COVID-19 cases, schools in Maharashtra are shut till February 15 and classes are being conducted online.
The Marathwada Graduates' Constituency MLC Satish Chavan, who belongs to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has claimed that the closure of schools and colleges is affecting the education of students.
The NCP is one of the constituents of the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.
He claimed in a release that due to a break in the education session, boys are going to work in fields while girls are being married off at an early age by their parents.
He stated that since schools and colleges remain closed, the move is negatively impacting the writing and reading skills of students and also their knowledge gaining skills.
The MLC said that questions are being raised over how malls, hotels, and cinema halls are being allowed to function with a 50% capacity in Maharashtra.
A day earlier, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope had said that the demand for reopening of schools will be considered after the next 10-15 days as there is a low incidence of coronavirus infection in children and as students are suffering education loss.
He also said the final decision will be taken by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

In a day, the active caseload in the country has increased by 1,45,747. The total number of people who have recuperated from the disease so far has increased to 3,49,47,390.  The cumulative Covid vaccine doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide inoculation drive has exceeded 156.02 crore.  India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.  India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 last year and three crore on June 23, 2021.
