Nupur Sharma, former BJP spokesperson who kicked up a storm for her controvesial remarks on Prophet has been granted personal gun licence.
Sharma, according to the Delhi Police had applied for the license amid constant death threat over her comments. Sharma was suspended last year after a massive row erupted when she made a derogatory comment about the Prophet on a television channel debate in 2022. The saffron party later suspended the her.
Violent outrage was witnessed in several parts of India demanding action against Nupur Sharma. Notably, the Supreme Court of India in July had directed Sharma to apologise for irresponsible behaviour.&nbsp;

Nearly 6 months after tailor Kanhaiya Lal was hacked to death in Rajasthan's Udaipur while the crime was recorded on camera, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet in the case on 22 December 2022.
The NIA named 9 persons who are residents of Udaipur, and 2 individuals named Salman and Abu Ibrahim, who are residents of Pakistan's Karachi.
Kanhaiya was allegedly murdered on 28 June 2022 for supporting suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma over her comments on Muhammad, a historical figure considered a Prophet by Muslims.
The accused persons have reportedly been charged under sections 120B, 449, 302, 307, 324, 153(A), 153(B), 295(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Sections 16, 18 and 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 4/25 (1B)(b) of Arms Act.

Observing that it never wanted Sharma to visit every court for relief, the bench issued notices to the Centre and several states including Delhi, West Bengal, and Maharashtra on her plea and sought their responses by August 10.
The bench posted the matter for hearing on August 10.

Refusing to entertain Sharma's plea for clubbing of FIRs lodged in various States against her for the remark, the bench had held that the comment was made either for cheap publicity, political agenda, or some nefarious activities.
Sharma's remark on the Prophet during a TV debate had triggered protests across the country and drew sharp reactions from many Gulf countries. The BJP subsequently suspended her from the party.
"These remarks are very disturbing and smack of arrogance. What is her business to make such remarks? These remarks have led to unfortunate incidents in the country...These people are not religious. They do not have respect for other religions. These remarks were made for cheap publicity or political agenda or some other nefarious activities", the bench had said.
While refusing to entertain Sharma's plea for clubbing of FIRs, the bench had allowed her to withdraw the plea.

The National Commission for Women on Monday asked police in Uttar Pradesh to take action against Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav for allegedly instigating hatred and ill-will against suspended BJP member Nupur Sharma.
The Supreme Court last week said Sharma "and her loose tongue had set the country on fire' and that she needed to apologise”.
Sharma had made controversial remarks against Prophet Mohammad.
Yadav said on Twitter: "Not only the face but the body should also apologise and should also be punished for disturbing the harmony of the country." In a letter to Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police D S Chauhan, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said the tweet is "sheer instigation".
“The National Commission for Women has come across a Twitter post of Akhilesh Yadav instigating a feeling of hatred and ill-will against Nupur Sharma also, inciting communal disharmony between the two religious groups which is extremely condemnable,” Sharma said.
“Considering the gravity of the matter, you are required to take immediate action against Akhilesh Yadav...," Sharma wrote.
She also termed the SP chief's statement "unsolicited" as the matter is already being looked into by the judiciary.   "Nupur Sharma is already facing threat to her life and the tweet of Akhilesh is a sheer instigation to the general public to assault Sharma. A fair investigation must be accomplished in a time bound manner," Sharma said.
She said action taken must be apprised within three days.

The Ajmer police had registered an FIR against 'khadim' Salman Chisti on Monday night.
"Salman Chisti was caught last night (Tuesday)... He is a history-sheeter at the Dargah police station," an official said.
In the video, the cleric is purportedly seen and heard announcing he would gift his house to anyone who brings Sharma's head to him. Chishti is also allegedly heard saying he would shoot her dead for insulting the Prophet.
"You have to give a reply to all Muslim countries. I am saying this from Ajmer, Rajasthan, and this message is from Huzur Khwaja Baba ka darbar," he purportedly says in the video, referring to the Sufi shrine that sees many Hindu visitors, apart from Muslim devotees.
Last week, four people were arrested in connection with another provocative speech allegedly delivered at the main gate of the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/ajmer-dargah-was-temple-maharana-pratap-sena-s-claim-1653617479580" target="_blank">Ajmer dargah</a> on June 17.
Though that video was in circulation earlier, the arrests were made following the killing of an Udaipur-based tailor Kanhaiya Lal by two men, who said they were avenging an insult to Islam.
The two men were, however, caught by the police when they were fleeing on a motorcycle in Rajsamand. In all, five people have been arrested in connection with the murder case, which is being handled by the National Investigation Agency.

A group of former judges and bureaucrats on Tuesday criticised the recent Supreme Court observations against suspended BJP member Nupur Sharma, alleging that the apex court surpassed the "Laxman rekha" and calling for "urgent rectification" steps.  
"In the annals of judiciary, the unfortunate comments have no parallel and are indelible scar on justice system of the largest democracy. Urgent rectification steps are called for as these have potentially serious consequences on democratic values and security of the country," the statement signed by 15 former judges, 77 ex-all India services officers and 25 veterans said.  
The signatories include former chief justice of the Bombay High Court Kshitij Vyas, former Gujarat High Court judge S M Soni, former Rajasthan High Court judges R S Rathore and Prashant Agarwal and former Delhi High Court judge S N Dhingra.  Former IAS officers R S Gopalan and S Krishna Kumar, ambassador (retired) Niranjan Desai, former DGPs S P Vaid and B L Vohra, Lt Gen V K Chaturvedi (retired) and Air Marshall (retired) S P Singh have also signed the statement which said the SC observations are not in sync with judicial ethos.  
"By no stretch these observations, which are not part of the judicial order, can be sanctified on the plank of judicial propriety and fairness. Such outrageous transgressions are without parallel in the annals of Judiciary," it said.

These "unfortunate and unprecedented" comments have sent shockwaves in the country and outside, it claimed.  Noting that Sharma sought access to justice system before the highest court, the statement said the court's observations have no connect jurisprudentially with the issue raised in the petition and "transgressed in an unprecedented manner all canons of dispensation of justice".
"She was defacto denied access to judiciary and in the process, there was an outrage on the preamble, spirit and essence of the Constitution of India," it alleged. In the observations, there is virtual exoneration of the "dastardliest beheading at Udaipur in broad daylight," it claimed.  It further said, "Legal fraternity is bound to be surprised and shocked at the observation that an FIR should lead to arrest. The observations on other agencies in the country, without notice to them, are indeed worrisome and alarming."
The signatories also defended Sharma's plea for clubbing all FIRs against her citing previous orders of the apex court.  "One fails to understand, why Nupur's case is treated at a different pedestal. Such an approach of the Supreme Court deserves no applause and impacts the very sanctity and honour of the highest court of land," it said.  
Sharma's comments against the Prophet during a TV debate had triggered protests across the country and drew sharp reactions from many Gulf countries. The BJP subsequently suspended her from the party.
The apex court had also pulled up the Delhi Police which has registered an FIR against her. The bench said, "What has happened in the investigation so far? What has Delhi Police done so far? Don't make us open our mouth? They must have put a red carpet for you."

A group of former judges and bureaucrats on Tuesday criticised the recent Supreme Court observations against suspended BJP member Nupur Sharma, alleging that the apex court surpassed the "Laxman rekha" and calling for "urgent rectification" steps. &nbsp;
"In the annals of judiciary, the unfortunate comments have no parallel and are indelible scar on justice system of the largest democracy. Urgent rectification steps are called for as these have potentially serious consequences on democratic values and security of the country," the statement signed by 15 former judges, 77 ex-all India services officers and 25 veterans said. &nbsp;
The signatories include former chief justice of the Bombay High Court Kshitij Vyas, former Gujarat High Court judge S M Soni, former Rajasthan High Court judges R S Rathore and Prashant Agarwal and former Delhi High Court judge S N Dhingra. &nbsp;Former IAS officers R S Gopalan and S Krishna Kumar, ambassador (retired) Niranjan Desai, former DGPs S P Vaid and B L Vohra, Lt Gen V K Chaturvedi (retired) and Air Marshall (retired) S P Singh have also signed the statement which said the SC observations are not in sync with judicial ethos. &nbsp;
"By no stretch these observations, which are not part of the judicial order, can be sanctified on the plank of judicial propriety and fairness. Such outrageous transgressions are without parallel in the annals of Judiciary," it said. &nbsp;
The Supreme Court had on July 1 come down heavily on Sharma for her controversial comments against Prophet Mohammad, saying her "loose tongue" has "set the entire country on fire" and that she is "single-handedly responsible for what is happening in the country".

Digital and social media need to be mandatorily regulated in the country to preserve the rule of law under the Constitution, Supreme Court Judge Justice J B Pardiwala said on Sunday, terming as “dangerous” the crossing of ‘Lakshman rekha’ on these platforms for “personalised, agenda-driven attacks" on the judges.
The remarks by Justice Pardiwala come amid an uproar by a section over the strong oral observations of a vacation bench, in which he was a member, against suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma for her controversial comments against Prophet Mohammed. The apex court had said that her "loose tongue" has "set the entire country on fire" and she should apologise.
The observations of the bench, which had also refused to club the FIRs lodged against Sharma across the country, sparked a debate, including on digital and social media platforms, leading to some uncharitable comments against the judges also.
“In India, which cannot be classified as mature and an informed democracy, social and digital media is employed frequently to politicise purely legal and constitutional issues,” Justice Pardiwala said and gave the illustration of the Ayodhya land dispute case.
He said the trials by digital media are an undue interference in the justice dispensation system. "Crossing that ‘Lakshman rekha’ many times, this is especially more worrisome,” the judge, who has recently been elevated to the top court, said.
Justice Pardiwala was speaking at the second Justice HR Khanna Memorial National Symposium organised by Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow & National Law University, Odisha along with the Confederation of Alumni for National Law Universities (CAN Foundation).

This puts the rule of law on the burner ignoring the sanctity of the respect for the courts,” he said.
Speaking on the subject of ‘Vox Populi vs. Rule of Law: Supreme Court of India', Justice Pardiwala said, “Judicial verdicts cannot be the reflection of the influence of public opinion”.
Observing that the rule of law has to prevail over the popular public sentiment, the apex court judge said that balancing the intent of the majority populace on one hand and meeting its demand and affirming the rule of law on the other is an “arduous exercise”.

The killing of a chemist in eastern Maharashtra's Amravati city was related to social media posts supporting suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma, police said on Saturday, even as the case was handed over to the National Investigation Agency.
The alleged master-mind of the killing was also arrested during the day, said a senior official. This was the seventh arrest in the case.
The crime branch of Amravati city police arrested Irfan Khan (32), a local resident, from Nagpur in the evening. He had allegedly hatched the conspiracy to murder Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe (54), who ran a medical shop in Amravati, and roped in others, said city police commissioner Dr Aarti Singh.
Kolhe was stabbed to death around 10.30 pm on June 21 near Ghantaghar in Shyam chowk area of Amravati.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikram Sali told reporters that on the face of it, the killing was linked to certain posts that Kolhe had shared in WhatsApp groups, supporting Sharma who has been suspended by the BJP for making controversial comments about Prophet Mohammad.
Earlier, police had arrested Mudassar Ahmed alias Sonu Raza Sheikh Ibrahim (22), Shahrukh Pathan alias Badshasha Hidayat Khan (25), Abdul Taufik alias Nanu Sheikh Taslim (24), Shoeb Khan alias Bhurya Sabir Khan (22), Atib Rashid Aadil Rashid (22) and Yusuf Khan Bahadur Khan (44) in connection with Kolhe's killing.
Sali said some of the accused had watched Kolhe's movements for three days prior to the killing.
Police arrested two of the accused on the basis of CCTV footage and also seized the knife used in the crime.
An NIA team visited Amravati on Saturday for probe. Earlier, the Union Home Ministry spokesperson tweeted that the probe has been handed over to the central probe agency.
A team of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of state police from Aurangabad also visited the city, said an official.
Kolhe's killing had taken place a week before two men hacked to death a tailor in Rajasthan's Udaipur before posting videos online saying that they were avenging an insult to Islam. The NIA is also probing the killing of the Udaipur tailor, Kanhaiya Lal.
As per the police, Kolhe was stabbed in the neck by the assailants who rode a motorbike when he was returning home on his two-wheeler after closing his medical shop.

Chief of AIMIM (All-India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen) Asaduddin Owaisi has demanded that suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma be arrested for her controversial remarks on prophet Mohammad, and said she would be projected as a "big leader" and it is also possible she may also be made the Delhi Chief Ministerial candidate in the coming months.
"BJP is protecting Nupur Sharma. We are demanding the BJP and the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi), but he doesn't speak. We tell the Prime Minister to arrest her. We demand action against her and her arrest as per law," the Hyderabad MP said, addressing a public meeting organised by United Action Forum here on Saturday.
He further said, "I know that after six-seven months Nupur Sharma will be projected as a very big leader. It is also possible that she will be made the Delhi Chief Minister candidate. This is the reality of our country. The more you abuse Muslims, higher the post you get." Owaisi said a complaint was given and an FIR was registered in Hyderabad against Nupur Sharma.
"We would like to tell our (Hyderabad) Police Commissioner and the Chief Minister of this State (Telangana) to send police to Delhi and bring "Mohtarma". Do something. What will happen only with an FIR? At least say that you will be going (to Delhi). You should bring her (Nupur Sharma)," Owaisi demanded.
Owaisi said if someone says anything against Prime Minister Modi, (Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister) Yogi Adityanath, (West Bengal Chief Minister) Mamata Banerjee, it is immediate jail (one is arrested).
On the protests by youngsters against the Centre's ‘Agnipath’ scheme in several parts of the country, Owaisi said youngsters were protesting against the alleged wrong decision of Modi.
"I want to ask the Prime Minister and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister...they (youngsters) came on the streets due to Modi's wrong decision. How many (protesters') homes will you demolish with bulldozers? We don't want you to demolish anyone's home," Owaisi said.
Attacking the BJP-led Central government over the ‘Agnipath’ scheme, Owaisi on Sunday tweeted: " Modi government is playing with Nation's security, deceived lakhs of youth who wanted to join the Honourable profession to serve the country." In another tweet, Owaisi said: "Modi’s Minister @kishanreddybjp says #Agniveers will be trained as drivers, dhobis etc Serving in army is a prestigious profession with no parallel. These men are willing to kill or get killed for India. If they wanted to be drivers, etc why would they spend 4 years in army?" "It’s clear that BJP sees Agniveers as nothing but chowkidaars on hire. @pmoindia is playing with India’s security and destroying the future of youth," Owaisi said in another tweet.
On the bulldozer demolition drive carried out by the Uttar Pradesh government against alleged rioters, Owaisi said in Prayagraj, Afreen Fatima's (activist) house was demolished, which was in her mother's name.
"Why did you demolish? Because her father organised a protest. That's why it was demolished. Court will decide if he organised it or not", Owaisi added.

Attacking the BJP-led Central government over the &lsquo;Agnipath&rsquo; scheme, Owaisi on Sunday tweeted: " Modi government is playing with Nation's security, deceived lakhs of youth who wanted to join the Honourable profession to serve the country." In another tweet, Owaisi said: "Modi&rsquo;s Minister @kishanreddybjp says #Agniveers will be trained as drivers, dhobis etc Serving in army is a prestigious profession with no parallel. These men are willing to kill or get killed for India. If they wanted to be drivers, etc why would they spend 4 years in army?" "It&rsquo;s clear that BJP sees Agniveers as nothing but chowkidaars on hire. @pmoindia is playing with India&rsquo;s security and destroying the future of youth," Owaisi said in another tweet.
On the bulldozer demolition drive carried out by the Uttar Pradesh government against alleged rioters, Owaisi said in Prayagraj, Afreen Fatima's (activist) house was demolished, which was in her mother's name.
"Why did you demolish? Because her father organised a protest. That's why it was demolished. Court will decide if he organised it or not", Owaisi added.

Another group whose name has emerged is 1877. It is apparently a grouping of Iraqi hackers who seem to have partnered with DragonForce for OpsPatuk. 1877 group attacked the ICAR website, among others.
Then there is One Hat Cyber Team, a group of hackers who apparently belong to Indonesia. The One Hat Cyber Team hacked the website of Thane Police, and demanded an apology over the Mohammad controversy.
The targets of these cyber criminals have been varied. Some of the websites which were attacked include those of the Indian embassy in Israel, the Maharashtra Judicial Academy, Thane Police, National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, and Institute of Science, Nagpur.
Cyber crime is turning out to be a major threat for India. The country saw 1.8 crore cyber attacks and threats in the first three months of 2022, as per US-based cyber security firm Norton. Between January and March, India saw almost 60,000 phishing attempts, and over 30,000 tech support scams, according to the Norton study.
To fight off hacking attempts, website owners must examine vulnerabilities and plug loopholes. This would include fixing issues like default passwords, and unpatched or outdated servers.
