SC raps Nupur Sharma: remark made either for cheap publicity, political agenda or for nefarious activity

The Supreme Court on Friday noted that suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's remark against Prophet Muhammad were made either for cheap publicity, political agenda or for some nefarious activities.

Hearing a plea filed by her lawyer which sought to club FIRs against her for remark against Prophet, the apex court said these people don't have respect for other religions.

When her lawyer pointed out that Nupur has sought an apology and withdrawn her comment, the court retorted saying she should have gone on live TV and sought forgiveness from the nation.

The Supreme Court asked what is the business of the TV channel and Nupur Sharma to discuss the matter which is sub-judice, except to promote an agenda?

As it rejected her plea, the court obeserved that the ousted BJP's leader's apology was too late and her remarks led to unfortunate incidents.
