Bihar police have blamed the National Testing Agency's non-cooperation for the delay in the probe into the irregularities in NEET-UG.
According to a Hindustan Times report, a senior officer from Bihar police&rsquo;s Economic Offence Unit claimed that the probe would have been concluded if the NTA had provided question paper samples to match a burnt booklet that was recovered from Patna a day before the exam on May 5.
The officer, who was not named in the report, said that they got the samples only on June 20. The officer added that the burnt booklet was traced to an exam centre in Hazaribagh and 68 questions matched with the NTA samples.
The officer further said that two boxes containing question papers appeared to have been tampered. All cases related NEET irregularities in various states have now been handed over to the CBI.

Amid the ongoing NEET-NET paper leak row, the Centre has sacked the chief of the National Testing Agency (NTA). Subodh Kumar Singh was the director general of the NTA.&nbsp;
Singh has now been replaced by retired Indian Administration Service (IAS) officer Pradeep Singh Kharola.&nbsp;
Kharola is the Chairman and Managing Editor of the India Trade Promotion Organisation. He has been given the additional charge as the Director General of the NTA "till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders".

Days after cancelling the UGC-NET exam over paper leak reports, the National Testing Agency on 21st of June postponed the Joint CSIR-UGC-NET examination that was scheduled from 25th June to 27th June.
The agency said that it is postponing the exam due to 'unavoidable circumstances' and logistical issues, and added that the revised exam will be announced soon.
 The UGC-NET exam is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for junior fellowship programmes, and admission to PhD in universities and college, the CSRI-UGC-NET determines the eligibility of candidates for junior fellowship programmes in science subjects.

The court, however, refused to stay the counselling of successful candidates for admissions to MBBS, BDS and other courses.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought the National Testing Agency's response to a plea seeking fresh conduct of medical entrance exam NEET-UG, 2024, on the grounds of alleged question paper leak and other malpractices.
A vacation bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, however, refused to stay the counselling of successful candidates for admissions to MBBS, BDS and other courses.
NEET-UG, 2024 was held on May 5 and its results were declared on June 4. It was expected to be declared on June 14.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) examination is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admissions to MBBS, BDS and AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.
The top court tagged the plea filed by Shivangi Mishra and others with the pending one and asked the NTA to file the response in the meantime.
The plea alleged that NEET-UG, 2024, was riddled with malpractices as various instances of paper leaks have come to the knowledge of the petitioners.
The alleged paper leak was violative of Article 14 (right to equality) under the Constitution as it gave an undue advantage to some candidates over others who chose to attempt the examination in a fair manner, it said.

8% drop for girls: gender gap in NEET attendance widens 

Although more girls qualified NEET than boys, according to the data provided by the National Testing Agency, compared to last year, there has been a sharp decline of 8.01% in the attendance of female candidates this year.
While the overall attendance rate fell from 92.85% to 85.57%, the gender break-up shows that the decline for girls is steeper. Girls have registered higher attendance than boys in the previous years but fell behind for the first time in 4 years.
While it is easy to argue that the rationale behind the decline is the covid pandemic, a senior official at the NTA suggested that as NEET was held after the Board results were announced, perhaps the drop in attendance is because students who failed the Board exam did not appear for NEET.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance test was conducted in September amid mass uproar from students, teachers, parents, academics and several political parties. They argued for a postponement of the exam in light of the covid pandemic but it was held as scheduled after Supreme Court dismissed all petitions for the delay.
