Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) reached a significant milestone in its journey towards operational readiness with the successful completion of its first flight validation test, an essential step ahead of its anticipated commercial launch in April 2025. On a momentous Monday, an IndiGo aircraft, manned by a full crew and accompanied by experts from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), performed the pivotal trial, marking a crucial advance in the airport's development strategy.
The trial was not just a symbolic gesture but a thorough technical assessment, encompassing various aspects of aviation operations. The centerpiece of the exercise involved takeoff and landing maneuvers on the newly constructed runway. The importance of such validation flights&mdash;or proving flights&mdash;cannot be overstated. They are integral to the certification lattice, serving as a means to ensure compliance with stringent safety, operational, and regulatory standards.
During these flights, the airport's ability to handle real-world scenarios is put to the test, assessing whether its infrastructure, procedures, and systems align seamlessly with the guidelines laid down by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). These simulations play a critical role in ascertaining the preparedness for handling commercial flights and ensuring passenger safety and operational efficiency.
Following the meticulous collection of data during the exercise, the subsequent review by the DGCA will determine the way forward. Approved data will pave the way for the airport authorities to apply for an aerodrome license, an indispensable step before the airport can fully commence operations and serve as a lynchpin in India's aviation sector.
The validation phase is programmed to run between November 30 and December 15, reflecting a strategically planned schedule moving forward. This follows the airport's achievement in October when critical milestones were accomplished with the successful calibration of its Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) systems. These sophisticated systems are crucial for ensuring aircraft can land safely, especially under challenging conditions, underscoring the airport's commitment to safety and technological excellence.
As NIAL progresses, officials reported that the project&rsquo;s first phase has achieved 85% completion. The impressive 3.9 km runway is already operational, signaling readiness to accommodate various aircraft types. Meanwhile, the terminal building is fast approaching the final stages of construction. Eleven people, including nine women, were arrested for defrauding people in the name of loans and insurance policies from a call centre here, officials said on Saturday The Noida Police said that the gang had data of 10,000 people.
The gang, operating from a call centre on the fourth floor of a market in Sector 51, was busted on Friday in a joint operation by the Crime Response Team (CRT) and the local Sector 49 police station officials, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shakti Mohan Avasthy said.
"The action on the bogus call centre was carried out based on local intelligence and confidential information. The accused were targeting people in Delhi NCR under the guise of offering loans and insurance policies. They had data of 10,000 people," Avasthy said.
The police identified those arrested as key accused Ashish Kumar alias Amit and Jitendra Verma alias Abhishek. The nine women arrested are Nisha alias Sneha, Reju alias Divya, Lovely Yadav alias Sweta, Poonam alias Pooja, Aarti Kumari alias Ananya, Kajal Kumari alias Surti, Sarita alias Suman, Babita Patel alias Mahi, and Garima Chauhan alias Sonia.
The police have found a case against them lodged in Ranchi, Jharkhand also, Avasthy said.
"The gang lured people from states outside NCR with promises of high returns through loans and insurance policies. These individuals (women) assist Ashish and Jitendra on a commission basis, receiving their share in cash," a police spokesperson said.
The official further disclosed that they used a PNB bank account rented from a person named Arvind in Karnataka for Rs 10,000 per month, from which the key accused withdrew funds using the ATM card in their possession.
Ashish maintained a black diary recording the financial transactions and shared the profits with his associates based on their contribution, the police spokesperson said.
"Ashish and Jitendra started this fraudulent activity after working for SBI Life Insurance in 2019. They bought data of about 10,000 people from India Mart for Rs 2,500 and began calling people across India, defrauding them under the pretence of offering loans and insurance," the official said.
"This scheme had been operational for over a year, generating crores of rupees, meticulously recorded in the recovered diary," the official added.
The accused were found using mobile phones with SIM cards obtained through fake Aadhaar cards, purchased from vendors willing to sell them for a higher price. These SIM cards were used to hide their identities while targeting unsuspecting victims outside the Delhi NCR, according to the police.
An FIR has been lodged in the case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the accused were sent to judicial custody after they were produced before a local magistrate's court, the police added.&nbsp;

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority will launch a residential plots scheme once the general elections is over, reported Moneycontrol. The authority had launched a similar scheme last year which was successful.
Under the scheme, YEIDA is planning to sell around 6,000 smaller plots measuring up to 30 square metres (sq m) in addition to larger residential plots measuring between 200 sq m and 4,000 sq m. As per Moneycontrol, these plots will be allotted in three sectors located near the upcoming Noida International Airport

Moneycontrol quoted a senior YEIDA official and said that YEIDA's residential plot scheme received a &ldquo;very encouraging response&rdquo; last year, indicating that people prefer residential plots and that proximity to the airport being built at Jewar, some 50 km from Noida, is an advantage.
&ldquo;So to capitalise on the rising demand, the Yamuna Expressway authority has decided to launch a residential plots scheme in June or July after the Lok Sabha polls are over. This time we also plan to launch around 6,000 affordable housing plots measuring up to 30 sq m. These plots will be launched in sectors close to the upcoming Noida airport, such as sectors 17, 18 and 20,&rdquo; the official told Moneycontrol.
The report further mentioned that the 30 sq m plot is likely to be around Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, which should be affordable for lower middle class people. Apart from this, nearly 500 large plots of between 200 and 4,000 sq m will also be put on sale. The sales will be performed through e-auction.
Moneycontrol quoted another official and said that &nbsp;preparations for the launch are already on and formalities regarding fixation of allotment rate, size and date of scheme are being finalised. The scheme may be launched in June or July.
In the previous scheme, YEIDA had offered &nbsp;residential plots at Rs 24,600 per sq m with the price of the plots ranging between Rs 29.5 lakh to Rs 4.92 crore.

The representatives and local leaders of the Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha, Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Morcha, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU-Tikait), BKU Manch, BKU Lok Shakti, BKU Non-Political and Bharaiya Kisan Sangharsh Samiti among other farmers' unions attended the meeting.
According to a statement by the district information office, the revenue council chairman while talking to the representatives of all the farmer organisations obtained information about their demands and problems.
"During the meeting the farmers also raised their demands, including the farmers being given the right to 10 per cent developed land against their land acquired by the authorities, increasing the limit of 450 square meter to 1,000 per square meter under the Population Regulations 2011. They also demanded that building rules should not be implemented on the houses of the farmers under construction in the villages," according to the statement.
"The chairman was also apprised about the demands for granting permission to carry out the commercial activities on 100 per cent developed land, increasing circle rate and employment etc.," the statement added.
Meerut Divisional Commissioner Selva Kumari J, Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma and the chief executive officers of Noida and Greater Noida authorities Lokesh M and N G Ravi Kumar attended the meeting, it added.

He said an FIR under the Indian Penal Code sections 468 (forgery for cheating), 505(2) (statement conducting to public mischief) and under provisions of the Information Technology Act was lodged at the Noida Cyber Crime police station as the Noida unit of the STF started investigating the matter.
"On Thursday, accused Shyam Kishor Gupta was arrested and further legal proceedings are being carried out at the local cyber crime police station in Noida," ADGP Yash, who is also the ADG (law and order) for the Uttar Pradesh police, said.

"As much as 9,943 litres of illicit liquor has been seized in the run-up to the polls. The value of this liquor is estimated to be Rs 27,20,709 (Rs 27.20 lakh)," District Excise Officer Subodh Kumar Srivastava told PTI.
"A total of 86 persons have been arrested during these seizures and sent to jail after legal proceedings," Srivastava added.
He said the Excise department is ensuring continuous monitoring in the district, especially along its borders with Delhi and Haryana, to check any illegal liquor transportation or sale.

Two men died on Sunday allegedly after an iron grille fell on them inside a shopping mall in Noida Extension, police said.
The duo were walking towards an escalator on the ground floor of Galaxy Blue Sapphire mall when the iron structure fell on them from the fifth floor, leaving them dead on the spot, Additional DCP (Central Noida) Hridesh Katheriya said.
Both the victims, aged around 35, were residents of the Vijay Nagar area in adjoining Ghaziabad district, Katheriya said.
"The local Bisrakh police station was informed by Yatharth Hospital that two people died in Blue Sapphire mall after an iron grille fell on them from the fifth floor. A police team immediately reached the spot," he said.
Those killed have been identified as Harendra Bhati and Shakeel, the officer said.
Katheriya said the families of the victims have been contacted and legal action would be initiated in the case once a complaint is received from them

According to a report by The Times of India, the proposed 'Japanese City' will cover 395 hectares in Sector 5A, while the 'Korean City' will occupy 365 hectares in Sector 4A, both located off the Yamuna Expressway. Arun Vir Singh, the CEO of YEIDA, said that these electronic hubs will accommodate companies specializing in manufacturing chips, semiconductors, AI equipment, and cameras.
The land acquisition administrative procedures have commenced, with a proposal for Sector 10 submitted to the Uttar Pradesh government. In October of this year, the government issued a notification for the social impact assessment (SIA) concerning the project.
Recently, officials from Noida, Greater Noida, and YEDIA undertook official visits to Japan, South Korea, and Singapore. They conducted roadshows to attract investments, anticipating a total investment of Rs 1 lakh crore from domestic and international sources.
Arun Vir Singh, CEO of YEIDA, expressed satisfaction with the success of the roadshows in Japan and Korea, noting that entrepreneurs from both countries have shown interest in developing these cities.
In line with the broader goal, the UP government aims to attract investments totaling Rs 15 lakh crore in 2023-24. Noida, Greater Noida, and YEDIA have been assigned the task of securing investments worth Rs 6,000 crore each.
YEIDA authorities are optimistic that the development of industrial cities and manufacturing hubs will significantly enhance the region's economy and create job opportunities for over 65,000 people.

While purported videos of the episode surfaced on social media on Wednesday, the police said the incident took place on February 9 and an FIR has been registered in the case.
Two short video clips of the incident purportedly showed a group of men assaulting and hurling expletives at Abhay Pratap, who hails from Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur.
The victim and the men assaulting him are all in their early 20s.
"Both the accused and the victim are known to each other. There was a fight between them on February 9 due to some dispute over some matter. A case was registered on February 9 at Sector-113 police station based on the plaintiff's complaint," a police spokesperson said.
Later the same day, the victim was sent for medical examination, the official said.
An investigation has been launched into the case and further necessary legal action is underway, the police added.

A man in Greater Noida died after being allegedly hit in the head during a party with friends who were intoxicated, police officials said on Tuesday.&nbsp;
Police further said that the party was organised on the night of January 28 by one of the accused to celebrate some YouTube milestone.
It was also mentioned that 24-yeaTwo r-old man's two friends, both aged around 25 years, have been taken into custody by the police and an FIR has been lodged based on a complaint filed by the father of the victim.
Additional DCP (Greater Noida) Ashok Kumar Sharma also said, "During the party, they also consumed liquor. An argument broke out between some of them after excessive consumption and Deepak was hit with a punch by someone. After that, Deepak left the party and went home."
Ashok Sharma further mentioned that after two-three hours at home, he started feeling discomfort and was taken to the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) where no external injury was found on his body.
The additional DCP said, "Later, he was taken to the private Yatharth Hospital where a (blood) clotting was found in his head because of which he died."
Deepak's body was sent for a post-mortem after which the family carried out his cremation. They have given a complaint on the basis of which an FIR has been lodged at the local Dankaur police station under relevant provisions of the law.

"In compliance with the instructions given by District Magistrate, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Maneesh Kumar Verma in view of the dense fog and extreme cold, all the boards (CBSE/ICSE/IB and others) recognised schools, council schools, government schools or non-government aided schools will observe holiday on December 29 and 30," Panwar said.

The patient is a 54-year-old male who lives in Noida but works at a multinational company in Gurugram, Gautam Buddh Nagar Chief Medical Officer Dr Sunil Sharma said on Thursday.
"His test sample has been sent to Delhi for genome sequencing. The result is awaited," Sharma said.
District Surveillance Officer and public healthcare expert Dr Amit Kumar said the patient travelled to Nepal earlier this month and also went to work at his Gurugram office after returning.
"The patient is asymptomatic and went for the COVID-19 test on his own," Kumar said, adding that this is the only confirmed case in Gautam Buddh Nagar so far.
CMO Sharma said testing for the virus had come down in the district this year.
People can get themselves tested for Covid at primary and community health centres here and the district hospital, he added.

A woman and a group of residents of a Noida high-rise had a heated argument over feeding dogs in the residential society. The argument went on for about two hours and the police were called so that the argument could reach an end.&nbsp;
This incident took place on December 13 in Noida's Supertech Ecocity, Sector 137. In the viral video, a woman and a group of residents were arguing because the woman was feeding the dogs inside the society premises.&nbsp;
As this argument was taking place, people from neighbouring residential societies also joined in. This matter was finally reported to police after the argument couldn't reach an end.&nbsp;
When the police came in, they suggested that there should be a designated place for feeding dogs.&nbsp;

A video of the incident doing rounds on the internet shows two women in a lift with a pet dog. A former IAS officer objects to the presence of the dog and asks the owner to leave the lift.&nbsp;
After this, an argument starts between them and one of the women takes out her phone to film the incident. The retired IAS officer also pulls out his phone to do the same. &nbsp;
The woman then snatches the phone from the man's hand and an ugly brawl. Both parties are seen slapping and punching each other in the video. &nbsp;
The guards and other caretakers of the society intervened and asked the two women and the man to leave the lift.&nbsp;
As the video went viral, police reached the apartment where the incident took place but both parties did not register any official complaint.&nbsp;
Both parties gave a written agreement to the police and requested the officials to not take any action against them. However, police is currently investigating this matter.&nbsp;

A 'bloody' incident unfolded in Noida sector 49 over the weekend as a golgappa seller was stabbed in the abdomen after he asked a man to stand in the queue. According to reports, this brutal incident took place on Saturday, October 14 evening.&nbsp;
Currently, the golgappa vendor, Ravindra Kumar is undergoing treatment at a local hospital. He was living in Noida's sector 49's Baraula village.&nbsp;
As per reports, on Saturday evening around 7.45 pm. a number of people gathered around Ravindra's stall to have golgappa and chaats. During that time, a man, identified as Vikas Sharma, barged into the queue and asked Ravindra to serve him out of turn.
Ravindra refused as there were other customers waiting in line. Vikas started hurling abuses at the golgappa vendor and then took a knife out of his pocket and stabbed Ravindra in the abdomen.&nbsp;
After this, the accused Vikas Sharma fled from the scene while other customers took the vendor to the nearby hospital.&nbsp;
A police complaint was filed against Vikas under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by a dangerous weapon) at the Sector 49 police station.

Allahabad High Court has acquitted the prime accused, Surinder Koli, in Nithari killings in 12 cases. Koli worked as Pandher's servant in the Noida house. The death sentences to both stand cancelled following the high court's decision.

A government hospital in Greater Noida put a patient's body in the mortuary freezer and then allegedly forgot about it for 17 days.

The body of a 70-year-old patient was left unattended for 17 days in a mortuary at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida, prompting Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak to order an investigation into the incident.
The patient was admitted to the GIMS on July 22 after a brain stroke and passed away on September 23 after which the body was shifted to the mortuary. The person who brought the patient to the hospital remained inaccessible during the entire course of treatment, the GIMS said in a statement.
However, earlier this week it came to light that the body was kept unattended in the mortuary for 17 days and the state government took note of the incident, with Pathak, also the health minister, on Thursday ordering an investigation into the whole episode.
"A serious case of (hospital authorities) forgetting a body after keeping it in a freezer for 17 days has come to light at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences in Greater Noida Noida. Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak has taken cognizance of this highly sensitive incident. Orders have been given to investigate the matter.
"Instructions have also been given to the principal secretary of the Medical Education Department to seek clarification from the director of GIMS," according to a state government statement.
"The institute staff had carelessly kept the body in the freezer for 17 days and forgot about it. Deputy CM Pathak said the entire incident will be investigated and strict action will be taken against those responsible,&rdquo; the statement added.
The GIMS said the person who got the patient admitted to the hospital could not be contacted over the phone despite several calls made to him and eventually it informed the officials of the local Kasna police station about it.
"The entire treatment for over two months was provided free of cost to the patient and teams from multiple departments were looking after this patient," the hospital said.
"There are three destitute patients admitted in the hospital, which are left by the police or some attendants and it is very difficult to manage these patients for their day-to-day care and disposal,&rdquo; the hospital added.&nbsp;
