Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday questioned Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over his remarks linking the Noida workers' agitation to a conspiracy and said he should step down from his post if he was unable to manage the situation.
Yadav took to social media to attack the Adityanath dispensation and asked whether the state's intelligence machinery had failed if the agitation was indeed part of a conspiracy.
"If the honourable chief minister is calling the Noida workers' movement a conspiracy by someone, then the public has one question for you: if this is true, was your intelligence police accompanying you to campaign in Bengal, or was it engrossed in 'vanaspati' research (a sarcastic reference to intoxicants), or under its influence?" Yadav posted on X.
"Before tarnishing the workers' movement with allegations of Naxalism, you should first explain what you've done that has led to such conditions in the last 10 years. If you can't apply balm to the workers' wounds, then don't, but at least don't sprinkle salt on those wounds," he said.
The former UP chief minister claimed that families are already distressed due to the inflation born from "BJP's commission-driven dealings" and said, "The sin you're committing by piling on unwarranted blame is utterly reprehensible".
"This could make an already bad situation even worse. If you can't manage the state, then step down from this seat with dignity; otherwise, the public will throw you out," Yadav posted in Hindi.
He further alleged that the BJP leaders themselves are neck-deep in the final phase of corruption, which is why neither the country nor the state is being managed under them.
"The BJP's double engine has turned into a trouble engine for the public. The people will dismantle the wheels of all these engines, pull out the parts and send them to the scrapyard forever," he added.
His sharp remarks follow Adityanath's public event address in Muzaffarnagar where he appealed to workers to maintain peace and cautioned them against elements trying to incite unrest.
"Uttar Pradesh is progressing steadily but some people are conspiring against this growth," the chief minister said.
"I appeal to all the personnel employed in industrial units, as well as to the workers working with them, to recall how this 'double-engine' government stood by your side, something which you witnessed firsthand during the COVID-19 period," he said.
"The government stands firmly with the workers and will provide security to the entrepreneur while simultaneously offering protection to every single worker," Adityanath said while urging industrialists to maintain dialogue with employees.
He also said workers should "be wary of those who incite unrest" and highlighted the government's efforts to implement measures ensuring minimum honorarium and social security.
The political exchange follows unrest in Noida earlier in the day, where protests by factory workers demanding a wage hike turned violent in areas such as Phase-2, Sector 60, Sector 62 and Sector 84, with incidents of stone-pelting, arson and vandalism reported.
Police said the situation is under control with heavy deployment across industrial zones, and efforts are underway to restore normalcy, while the administration has announced measures including double overtime wages, weekly offs and bonuses to address workers' concerns.

Vehicles, including police SUVs, were torched, public property vandalised and stone pelting reported from factory hubs in Noida as protests by workers demanding a wage hike turned violent on Monday.
The protests paralysed traffic, leaving thousands of commuters stranded on different roads leading to Delhi during the morning rush hour. Queues of vehicles stretching for several kilometres were seen at the Delhi-Noida border.
Officials said a large number of workers from various industrial units in Phase 2 and Sector 60 gathered in the morning to press their long-pending demand for salary revision and raised slogans.
They said the workers are demanding a wage hike on the lines of neighbouring Haryana, among other things.
Similar protests were also reported from Sector 62 and Sector 84, including at a Motherson company unit. Protesters also blocked the National Highway 9 &mdash; close to the Ghaziabad border and a key route connecting Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh.
The protests soon spiralled into violence, with some protesters vandalising property, pelting stones and setting vehicles on fire.
Adequate police deployment has been ensured across industrial zones under the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate, the officials said.
Senior police and administrative officers are present on the ground to monitor the situation. A heavy police force was rushed to the affected areas to bring the situation under control, they said.
&ldquo;The situation is under control and being continuously monitored. Efforts are being made to counsel the workers and maintain peace. Minimum force is being used wherever necessary to maintain law and order,&rdquo; police said in a statement.
Authorities also appealed to the public not to pay heed to rumours and assured that normalcy is being restored in the affected areas.
Gautam Buddh Nagar Additional Labour Commissioner Rakesh Dwivedi said the workers were primarily demanding a wage hike on the lines of neighbouring Haryana, along with basic facilities.
&ldquo;Workers demanded to increase salary likewise Haryana government has increased. Besides, there are other issues as well like overtime, food and others,&rdquo; he said.
On April 8, the Haryana government increased the minimum wage for unskilled workers to Rs 15,220 per month from Rs 11,274.60. The decision came into effect retrospectively from April 1.
Protesters said low wages and poor working conditions forced them to take to the streets.
A protester said that despite working 12-hour shifts, workers earn between Rs 11,000 and Rs 15,000, making it difficult to sustain a household.
Another protester, Nakul Singh, alleged that companies were not paying overtime in accordance with government norms, leading to resentment among workers.
A woman worker alleged irregularities in wage payments, saying workers are often made to sign for double shifts while being paid for a single duty.
&ldquo;Working conditions are often very difficult and need improvement,&rdquo; she said.
Another woman protester said workers&rsquo; incomes have not kept pace with rising inflation.
&ldquo;Everything is becoming expensive, but our salaries remain around Rs 11,000-12,000. They should be increased to at least Rs 20,000-25,000,&rdquo; she said.
The protesters also demanded an increase in minimum wages, stating that women working 12-hour shifts should be paid at least Rs 15,000 and men at least Rs 20,000 per month.
Asked if workers are aware of the benefits they are entitled to, a protester told reporters, &ldquo;We only get to know the rules which are put up by our companies at their gates, walls and notice boards.&rdquo; The violence erupted a day after the Uttar Pradesh government announced a series of measures aimed at strengthening labour welfare, including mandatory double overtime pay and timely wages for workers in Gautam Buddha Nagar.
District Magistrate Medha Roopam on Sunday held meetings with representatives of industrial units and issued key directives to safeguard workers&rsquo; rights.
She directed that workers willing to continue their jobs should not face any inconvenience and asked managements to maintain dialogue with employees in line with government norms.
She announced that workers would be paid overtime at double the standard rate without deductions and would be entitled to a weekly off. In case of work on Sundays, double wages would be paid, while bonuses would be provided as per rules.
The administration also directed industrial units to ensure CCTV cameras at factory gates remain functional and set up a control room to address workers&rsquo; grievances and maintain law and order.
The officials said industrial units and workers may report any issues they encounter to this control room via the telephone numbers 1202978231, 1202978232, 1202978862, and 1202978702, thereby ensuring prompt remedial action.
Security was tightened along Delhi&rsquo;s key entry points on Monday.
According to Delhi Police sources, several teams have been deployed at all motorable roads connecting Noida to different parts of the capital, particularly at major border points with Uttar Pradesh, to prevent any spillover of the unrest.
Senior officers said strict vigil is being maintained and thorough checking of vehicles is being carried out to ensure that no anti-social elements enter the city under the guise of the protest.
&ldquo;Delhi Police is fully alert and vigilant. Adequate force has been deployed at all strategic locations. No one will be allowed to breach law and order,&rdquo; a senior police officer said.
Barricading has been intensified at key border points and additional personnel, including rapid response teams, paramilitary forces, have been stationed to respond swiftly to any untoward incident.
Police officers said they are monitoring the situation and are in touch with their Uttar Pradesh counterparts.
The protests triggered widespread traffic snarls across Noida and Greater Noida, with key stretches such as Sector 62, National Highway 24, Sector 63 and the Chilla border witnessing severe congestion. Protesters blocked major routes connecting Sector 62 to Sector 16 and NH-9, prompting traffic police to divert vehicles and make efforts to ease movement.
Traffic police later said that movement was gradually being restored at key points, including the Chilla border and the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, while traffic flow from Sector 62 towards Golchakkar had resumed. Efforts were underway to normalise traffic at other affected locations.
An office-goer, Prashant Shukla, said he was stuck at the DND flyover for hours while heading to Delhi.
&ldquo;Vehicles were not able to move due to heavy traffic jams caused by the workers&rsquo; protest. It took me nearly two hours to reach office,&rdquo; he said.
Another commuter from Greater Noida said multiple areas, including Sector 62, Phase 2, the Chilla border, and National Highways 24 and 9, were severely affected.
&ldquo;The entire stretch from Noida Sector 62 towards Sector 51 was impacted, and office-goers were stuck in their vehicles,&rdquo; he said.
Traffic congestion was also reported from Dadri Main Road, Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, Phase 2 industrial area, and sectors 16, 18, 63 and 64, among other locations.

A case had been registered against him at Kasna Police Station on August 22 under sections 103(1) (murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 61(2) (attempting to commit offences punishable with life imprisonment or others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police said Rohit had been absconding since the incident that sparked outrage across the region.
Nikki's husband Vipin, brother Rohit, mother and father are among those mentioned as accused in the FIR. Three of them have been arrested.
Nikki was allegedly beaten and then set on fire by her husband Vipin Bhati and in-laws at their home in Sirsa village, Greater Noida, on Thursday night. Disturbing videos of the assault, recorded by Nikki's elder sister Kanchan, who is married into the same family, circulated widely on social media. One clip showed Nikki being dragged by her hair, while another showed her walking down the stairs in flames before collapsing.
Vipin Bhati was arrested on Saturday and later shot in the leg during an alleged attempt to escape police custody on Sunday. His mother, Daya (55), was also arrested the same day. Police said Vipin had snatched a sub-inspector's gun and fired at officers while being escorted to recover evidence, prompting police to retaliate.
The case has drawn widespread attention as Nikki's family alleged she faced years of torture and escalating dowry demands since her marriage in 2016. They said they had already given a Scorpio SUV, a motorcycle, and gold jewellery to her in-laws, but the demands later increased to Rs 36 lakh in cash and even a luxury car.
Her elder sister Kanchan, who is married in the same family and witnessed the incident, told reporters that Nikki was assaulted in front of her young son.
She also told police that Nikki was allegedly doused with a flammable liquid and set on fire. Nikki succumbed to her injuries while being taken to a hospital in Delhi, according to police.
The victim's father Bhikahri Singh had said his daughters Kanchan and Nikki were married to brothers Rohit Bhati and Vipin Bhati, respectively, in 2016. "Since then they have been torturing both the daughters and demanded dowry," he had alleged.&nbsp;

Eleven people, including nine women, were arrested for defrauding people in the name of loans and insurance policies from a call centre here, officials said on Saturday The Noida Police said that the gang had data of 10,000 people.
The gang, operating from a call centre on the fourth floor of a market in Sector 51, was busted on Friday in a joint operation by the Crime Response Team (CRT) and the local Sector 49 police station officials, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shakti Mohan Avasthy said.
"The action on the bogus call centre was carried out based on local intelligence and confidential information. The accused were targeting people in Delhi NCR under the guise of offering loans and insurance policies. They had data of 10,000 people," Avasthy said.
The police identified those arrested as key accused Ashish Kumar alias Amit and Jitendra Verma alias Abhishek. The nine women arrested are Nisha alias Sneha, Reju alias Divya, Lovely Yadav alias Sweta, Poonam alias Pooja, Aarti Kumari alias Ananya, Kajal Kumari alias Surti, Sarita alias Suman, Babita Patel alias Mahi, and Garima Chauhan alias Sonia.
The police have found a case against them lodged in Ranchi, Jharkhand also, Avasthy said.
"The gang lured people from states outside NCR with promises of high returns through loans and insurance policies. These individuals (women) assist Ashish and Jitendra on a commission basis, receiving their share in cash," a police spokesperson said.
The official further disclosed that they used a PNB bank account rented from a person named Arvind in Karnataka for Rs 10,000 per month, from which the key accused withdrew funds using the ATM card in their possession.
Ashish maintained a black diary recording the financial transactions and shared the profits with his associates based on their contribution, the police spokesperson said.
"Ashish and Jitendra started this fraudulent activity after working for SBI Life Insurance in 2019. They bought data of about 10,000 people from India Mart for Rs 2,500 and began calling people across India, defrauding them under the pretence of offering loans and insurance," the official said.
"This scheme had been operational for over a year, generating crores of rupees, meticulously recorded in the recovered diary," the official added.
The accused were found using mobile phones with SIM cards obtained through fake Aadhaar cards, purchased from vendors willing to sell them for a higher price. These SIM cards were used to hide their identities while targeting unsuspecting victims outside the Delhi NCR, according to the police.
An FIR has been lodged in the case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the accused were sent to judicial custody after they were produced before a local magistrate's court, the police added.&nbsp;

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority will launch a residential plots scheme once the general elections is over, reported Moneycontrol. The authority had launched a similar scheme last year which was successful.
Under the scheme, YEIDA is planning to sell around 6,000 smaller plots measuring up to 30 square metres (sq m) in addition to larger residential plots measuring between 200 sq m and 4,000 sq m. As per Moneycontrol, these plots will be allotted in three sectors located near the upcoming Noida International Airport

Moneycontrol quoted a senior YEIDA official and said that YEIDA's residential plot scheme received a &ldquo;very encouraging response&rdquo; last year, indicating that people prefer residential plots and that proximity to the airport being built at Jewar, some 50 km from Noida, is an advantage.
&ldquo;So to capitalise on the rising demand, the Yamuna Expressway authority has decided to launch a residential plots scheme in June or July after the Lok Sabha polls are over. This time we also plan to launch around 6,000 affordable housing plots measuring up to 30 sq m. These plots will be launched in sectors close to the upcoming Noida airport, such as sectors 17, 18 and 20,&rdquo; the official told Moneycontrol.
The report further mentioned that the 30 sq m plot is likely to be around Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, which should be affordable for lower middle class people. Apart from this, nearly 500 large plots of between 200 and 4,000 sq m will also be put on sale. The sales will be performed through e-auction.
Moneycontrol quoted another official and said that &nbsp;preparations for the launch are already on and formalities regarding fixation of allotment rate, size and date of scheme are being finalised. The scheme may be launched in June or July.
In the previous scheme, YEIDA had offered &nbsp;residential plots at Rs 24,600 per sq m with the price of the plots ranging between Rs 29.5 lakh to Rs 4.92 crore.

The representatives and local leaders of the Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha, Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Morcha, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU-Tikait), BKU Manch, BKU Lok Shakti, BKU Non-Political and Bharaiya Kisan Sangharsh Samiti among other farmers' unions attended the meeting.
According to a statement by the district information office, the revenue council chairman while talking to the representatives of all the farmer organisations obtained information about their demands and problems.
"During the meeting the farmers also raised their demands, including the farmers being given the right to 10 per cent developed land against their land acquired by the authorities, increasing the limit of 450 square meter to 1,000 per square meter under the Population Regulations 2011. They also demanded that building rules should not be implemented on the houses of the farmers under construction in the villages," according to the statement.
"The chairman was also apprised about the demands for granting permission to carry out the commercial activities on 100 per cent developed land, increasing circle rate and employment etc.," the statement added.
Meerut Divisional Commissioner Selva Kumari J, Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma and the chief executive officers of Noida and Greater Noida authorities Lokesh M and N G Ravi Kumar attended the meeting, it added.

"On Thursday, accused Shyam Kishor Gupta was arrested and further legal proceedings are being carried out at the local cyber crime police station in Noida," ADGP Yash, who is also the ADG (law and order) for the Uttar Pradesh police, said.

According to the officials, During the seizure of the illicit liquor, 86 people have been arrested since March 16.

About 10,000 litres of illicit liquor has been seized across Noida and Greater Noida in the Gautam Buddh Nagar constituency since the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections came into effect, officials said on Wednesday.

Uttar Pradesh Excise Commissioner Adarsh Singh on Tuesday held an enforcement and revenue meeting in Greater Noida in view of the polls.
"As much as 9,943 litres of illicit liquor has been seized in the run-up to the polls. The value of this liquor is estimated to be Rs 27,20,709 (Rs 27.20 lakh)," District Excise Officer Subodh Kumar Srivastava told PTI.
"A total of 86 persons have been arrested during these seizures and sent to jail after legal proceedings," Srivastava added.
He said the Excise department is ensuring continuous monitoring in the district, especially along its borders with Delhi and Haryana, to check any illegal liquor transportation or sale.

He showed his phone screen on the camera and it can be seen that Deepak was charged ₹1,67,74,647 as trip fare. His waiting time cost was &nbsp;₹5,99,09189, ₹75 was deducted as a promotion cost.

Two men died on Sunday allegedly after an iron grille fell on them inside a shopping mall in Noida Extension, police said.
The duo were walking towards an escalator on the ground floor of Galaxy Blue Sapphire mall when the iron structure fell on them from the fifth floor, leaving them dead on the spot, Additional DCP (Central Noida) Hridesh Katheriya said.
Both the victims, aged around 35, were residents of the Vijay Nagar area in adjoining Ghaziabad district, Katheriya said.
"The local Bisrakh police station was informed by Yatharth Hospital that two people died in Blue Sapphire mall after an iron grille fell on them from the fifth floor. A police team immediately reached the spot," he said.
Those killed have been identified as Harendra Bhati and Shakeel, the officer said.
Katheriya said the families of the victims have been contacted and legal action would be initiated in the case once a complaint is received from them

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority has announced plans to designate sectors for the establishment of 'Japanese' and 'Korean' industrial cities, focusing on electronic manufacturing units. According to a report by The Times of India, the proposed 'Japanese City' will cover 395 hectares in Sector 5A, while the 'Korean City' will occupy 365 hectares in Sector 4A, both located off the Yamuna Expressway. Arun Vir Singh, the CEO of YEIDA, said that these electronic hubs will accommodate companies specializing in manufacturing chips, semiconductors, AI equipment, and cameras.
The land acquisition administrative procedures have commenced, with a proposal for Sector 10 submitted to the Uttar Pradesh government. In October of this year, the government issued a notification for the social impact assessment (SIA) concerning the project.
Recently, officials from Noida, Greater Noida, and YEDIA undertook official visits to Japan, South Korea, and Singapore. They conducted roadshows to attract investments, anticipating a total investment of Rs 1 lakh crore from domestic and international sources.
Arun Vir Singh, CEO of YEIDA, expressed satisfaction with the success of the roadshows in Japan and Korea, noting that entrepreneurs from both countries have shown interest in developing these cities.
In line with the broader goal, the UP government aims to attract investments totaling Rs 15 lakh crore in 2023-24. Noida, Greater Noida, and YEDIA have been assigned the task of securing investments worth Rs 6,000 crore each.
YEIDA authorities are optimistic that the development of industrial cities and manufacturing hubs will significantly enhance the region's economy and create job opportunities for over 65,000 people.

While purported videos of the episode surfaced on social media on Wednesday, the police said the incident took place on February 9 and an FIR has been registered in the case.
Two short video clips of the incident purportedly showed a group of men assaulting and hurling expletives at Abhay Pratap, who hails from Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur.
The victim and the men assaulting him are all in their early 20s.
"Both the accused and the victim are known to each other. There was a fight between them on February 9 due to some dispute over some matter. A case was registered on February 9 at Sector-113 police station based on the plaintiff's complaint," a police spokesperson said.
Later the same day, the victim was sent for medical examination, the official said.
An investigation has been launched into the case and further necessary legal action is underway, the police added.

A man in Greater Noida died after being allegedly hit in the head during a party with friends who were intoxicated, police officials said on Tuesday.&nbsp;
Police further said that the party was organised on the night of January 28 by one of the accused to celebrate some YouTube milestone.
It was also mentioned that 24-yeaTwo r-old man's two friends, both aged around 25 years, have been taken into custody by the police and an FIR has been lodged based on a complaint filed by the father of the victim.
Additional DCP (Greater Noida) Ashok Kumar Sharma also said, "During the party, they also consumed liquor. An argument broke out between some of them after excessive consumption and Deepak was hit with a punch by someone. After that, Deepak left the party and went home."
Ashok Sharma further mentioned that after two-three hours at home, he started feeling discomfort and was taken to the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) where no external injury was found on his body.
The additional DCP said, "Later, he was taken to the private Yatharth Hospital where a (blood) clotting was found in his head because of which he died."
Deepak's body was sent for a post-mortem after which the family carried out his cremation. They have given a complaint on the basis of which an FIR has been lodged at the local Dankaur police station under relevant provisions of the law.

"In compliance with the instructions given by District Magistrate, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Maneesh Kumar Verma in view of the dense fog and extreme cold, all the boards (CBSE/ICSE/IB and others) recognised schools, council schools, government schools or non-government aided schools will observe holiday on December 29 and 30," Panwar said.
The order applies to all classes from nursery to 12, he said in the order.
"All the teachers and employees working in the said schools will continue to be on duty as usual," the officer added.&nbsp;

A Noida resident has tested positive for Covid, in a first case of the infection in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar after several months, officials said.
The patient is a 54-year-old male who lives in Noida but works at a multinational company in Gurugram, Gautam Buddh Nagar Chief Medical Officer Dr Sunil Sharma said on Thursday.
"His test sample has been sent to Delhi for genome sequencing. The result is awaited," Sharma said.
District Surveillance Officer and public healthcare expert Dr Amit Kumar said the patient travelled to Nepal earlier this month and also went to work at his Gurugram office after returning.
"The patient is asymptomatic and went for the COVID-19 test on his own," Kumar said, adding that this is the only confirmed case in Gautam Buddh Nagar so far.
CMO Sharma said testing for the virus had come down in the district this year.
People can get themselves tested for Covid at primary and community health centres here and the district hospital, he added.
