Actor Randeep Hooda who is all set to portray Savarkar in his upcoming movie 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar', has stoked a row after he claimed in a promotional post on twitter that the right wing Hindu ideologue had inspired Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh &amp; Khudiram Bose.&nbsp;
Chandra Kumar Bose, who is the grandnephew of Subhas Chandra Bose, refuted Hooda&rsquo;s claim said Netaji was inspired by only Swami Vivekananda, who was his spiritual Guru, and freedom fighter Deshbandhu Chitranjan Das, who was his political mentor.
He said apart from these two people, he doesn&rsquo;t think Netaji was inspired by any other freedom fighters.
Chandra Kumar Bose said Savarkar's ideology and the ideology of Netaji were diametrically opposite and Netaji actually opposed Savarkar.
The grandnephew also said Netaji, in his writing, clearly stated that they cannot expect anything from Savarkar and Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the freedom movement against British imperialist power.

Students of the government-run ITI have built a six-feet-high statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose using automobile scraps .

Six-foot-tall statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, which was recently constructed out of discarded iron rods, nuts, and bolts. Berhampur ITI students made the statue. The statue was unveiled on Monday, the 126th anniversary of the nationalist leader's birth, as a tribute to him.
According to principal Rajat Kumar Panigrahi of the government-run ITI. &ldquo;Our institute has utilized waste and discarded materials to make different statues which dot the campus".&nbsp;
The same technique was used to create a statue of Mahatma Gandhi last year. It was awarded the First prize in the National Competition on Welded Marvels in 2022's "Trash to Treasure" category. which the Indian Institute of Welding organized (IIW).

India commemorates Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's death anniversary on August 18 every year and for the longest time after the fierce leader suspiciously disappeared, it was widely believed that Netaji died in a plane crash in Taiwan on August 18, 1945. Initial investigations carried out by the British government in pre-independent India, Japanese government and Allied forces came to the same conclusion of Netaji's dying in a plane crash. Apparently, Netaji died of third degree burns in a hospital. 
What do we know of the fateful day?
According to historical narrative, one version states that after Japan's formal surrender post World War II on August 16, 1945, Bose decided to leave for Saigon along with his aides. Netaji accompanied by his aides and senior Japanese officials arrived in Saigon. After Japan's unconditional surrender, Netaji wanted to go to the Soviet Union in search of a safe place. To carry out his wish, Japanese Field Marshal Tarauchi carved a secret plan. On August 18, 1945 Netaji along with his colleagues arrived at Taihoku. The team was headed for Dairen in Manchuria to drop off Japanese Army Lieutenant general Shidei. Apparently, Netaji agreed to go with Shidei to Mukden (Shenyang), the capital of the Manchuria region in China. The plane took off at around 2-2:30 pm. As soon as the plane was air-borne, a loud explosion was heard with multiple bangs. The plane crashed thereafter. 
Why was Netaji's demise disputed?
Soon after Netaji's demise, conspiracy theories and narratives started doing rounds. In 1956, the Indian government constituted a committee to investigate his death. The committee backed the same theory of death in a plane crash. However, Netaji's brother refuted the claims and refused to sign the report and stating this was a cover-up.
Theories over Bose's death

The narrative is known from the time Netaji disappeared in 1945-- he died in a plane crash in Taihoku (present day Taiwan) on August 18. Netaji's followers refused to believe the theory and stressed on Netaji surviving the crash. 
2) In 1966, Netaji's brother claimed that the freedom fighter was all set to make a return. For years, rumours floated around sightings of Netaji in the country. 
The second theory was proposed by Indian army's Retd Major Gen GD Bakshi in his book. Bakshi claimed that the plane crash was a decoy by the Japanese to help Bose escape to the former Soviet Union. Not just this, the retired major general also stated that Netaji successfully made three radio broadcasts from Siberia which gave away his location to the British. It is after this that the British interrogated Netaji and thus tortured him to death, alleges the retired general.
 In another bizarre theory claims were made that Netaji was living disguised as a saint named Gumnami baba Uttar Pradesh in the 80s.

How Mukherjee commission's report baffled all
Even though there were weird theories and narratives surrounding Netaji's disappearance, Mukherjee commission's report in 1999 left the countrymen baffled. The report supported public speculations that Bose did not die in a plane crash and the remains in the Japanese temple are not his. 
The Dis-classification of Netaji's file
In 2016, a total of 304 files related to Netaji were declassified by the Central ministry. This move came after the Kolkata government made files related to Netaji's public. The government had received appeals for several years. Even after the declassification of the files, there is less known about Netaji's death. It is believed that Netaji's remains are kept at Renko-ji temple in Tokyo Japan. Netaji's only child Anita Bose Pfaff on 15, August, 2022 appealed to the Indian government to bring back his remains from Tokyo temple and conduct a DNA test so Netaji's kin gets closure.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's daughter Anita Bose Pfaff said she will soon approach the Indian and the Japanese governments for a DNA test of the ashes at Tokyo's Renkoji Temple.
In an interview to PTI, Pfaff said resolving the mystery shrouding Bose's life and bringing back the ashes to India would be a true tribute to the revolutionary as the country celebrates its 75th anniversary of Independence.
"I, as the daughter of Netaji, want this (mystery) to end in my lifetime. I would soon officially approach the Indian government with the request to conduct a DNA test. I will wait for some time for their response, if I get a response, it's good, and if I don't, I will get in touch with the Japanese government. If the government agrees or if they ask me to move forward and don't want to get involved, then I can take it forward," she said.
Pfaff, a German, said she had approached the Indian government for the DNA test when the Congress was in power but never got a reply.
"This time, I won't dillydally much longer. This COVID situation has already delayed the matter by two years. I would parallelly get in touch with the Japanese government. Initially, the Japanese government decided to keep the ashes as they thought they would be for a few months. But now it has been 77 years," she said in a telephonic interview from Germany.
"I don't want to name anyone. But for some people, it is true, saw a political campaign in Netaji's life and mystery for their political advantage. But, this is not a general attitude. A majority of the people still admire him and are not in politics," said Pfaff, an economist.
She said that the BJP-led government in India has been doing more in honouring the legacy of Bose.
"But at the same time, I don't see a reason they should take the initiative without my pushing them," she said.
"It is not a mystery for me as there is ample proof that he died in the air crash. But, I want his ashes to be brought back to his motherland. I want to do this service to my father," she said.
Pfaff said technology advancement now offers the means for sophisticated DNA testing.
"To those who still doubt whether Netaji died on August 18, 1945, or not, it offers a chance to obtain scientific proof that the remains kept at Renkoji Temple in Tokyo are his," she said.
Since Independence, the Centre formed three inquiry commissions to unravel the mystery over Netaji's disappearance.
Two of them -- the Shah Nawaz Commission and Khosla Commission, formed by the Congress governments -- concluded that Bose died in an air crash. The third one -- the Mukherjee Commission formed by the BJP-led NDA government had said he did not die in it.
In 2015, the West Bengal government released 64 files on Netaji held by the Home Department. The Narendra Modi government in 2016 released 100 files on the legend.
