National Film Awards ceremony took place in New Delhi where President of India, Droupadi Murmu presented awards for the excellence in the field of cinema. Here are some of the major highlights from the event.&nbsp;

1- Double win for &lsquo;Brahmastra&rsquo;: Karan Johar and Ayan Mukerji attended the National Film Awards ceremony as their film starring Ranbir Kapoor won 2 awards. The film won Best Film in Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics category along with the Best VFX Film Award.
2- Huge applause for AR Rahman: The Indian music legend bagged the Best Music Direction award for the film &lsquo;Ponniyin Selvan: I&rsquo;. He received a warm applause and cheers from the audience as he got up to receive the honour. &nbsp;
3- Mani Ratnam&rsquo;s film sweeps most awards: &lsquo;Ponniyin Selvan&rsquo; emerged as the biggest winner of the year. Mani Ratnam&rsquo;s magnum opus bagged the awards for &lsquo;Best Cinematography&rsquo;, &lsquo;Best Sound Design&rsquo;, &lsquo;Best Music Direction&rsquo;, and &lsquo;Best Tamil Feature Film&rsquo;. &nbsp;
4- &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo; and Rishab Shetty&rsquo;s win: Actor-director Rishab Shetty received the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo; while the film also won the &lsquo;Best Popular Film&rsquo; award. &nbsp;
5- Mithun Da receives award with arm cast: Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty received the most prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award for his contribution to Indian cinema. The actor made it to the ceremony despite an injury and was wearing an arm brace. &nbsp;

The 70th National Film Awards winners were announced on Friday (August 16). Honouring excellence across film industries, the awards aim to celebrate artists' immense contributions to shaping Indian cinema. This year, it was a 'Kantara' show with the Rishab Shetty starrer securing several notable honours. Maniratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan: I' and 'Brahmastra' also won top awards judged by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Contention was open to both feature and non-feature films that have received Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certification between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022. Rahul Rawail, the chair of the feature film jury, Nila Madhab Panda, the chair of the non-feature film jury, and Gangadhar Mudalair, the chair of the best writing on cinema panel, were part of this year's jury. The official ceremony will be honoured at a later date.&nbsp;

The Malayalam-language drama 'Aattam' won the Best Feature Film award, while Rishab Shetty took home the Best Actor award. The Best Actress honour was shared by Nithya Menen and Manasi Parekh. Sooraj Barjatya was named the Best Director for his film 'Uunchai'.&nbsp;

The winners of the 68th National Film Awards were honoured at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, on Friday ( September 30), in the presence of President Draupadi Murmu. 
Veteran actor Asha Parekh received the Dada Saheb Phalke award, the highest recognition in the field of Indian cinema. On receiving the award, she said that she is grateful to be honoured a day before her 80th birthday.
The best actor award is shared between Suriya and Ajay Devgn.
Actor Suriya received the Best actor award for ‘Soorari Pottru’ and his wife and actor Jyothika received the Best Feature film award for the same. ‘Soorarai Pottru’ won in three of the four major award categories at the award ceremony.  
Ajay Devgn received the National Award for Best Actor for 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Hero'. This is his third time thay he has won the coveted award. He said, ‘I’m elated to win the Best Actor Award for Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior at the 68th National Awards along with Suriya, who won for Soorarai Pottru. I thank everyone, most of all my creative team, the audience and my fans. I also express my gratitude to my parents & the Almighty for their blessings. Congratulations to all the other winners.’ 
Sachidanandan KR won Best Director for the Malayalam film ‘AK Ayyappanum Koshiyum’, the second major award for the film.

Expressing his gratitude, &lsquo;Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior&rsquo; director Om Raut said that it is an extremely proud and happy moment for the team as they have won three National Awards for a film.
He also congratulated Ajay Devgn for his win as the Best Actor for his film. He said that Ajay was Tanhaji in the truest form. He further congratulated Ajay&rsquo;s co-star, Saif Ali Khan, and Nachiket Barve and Mahesh Sherla on winning the award for Best Costume Designer for the film.Raut added that the award &ldquo;is for each person who worked on Tanhaji- they are all my unsung heroes&rdquo;.

On receiving his third national award for Best Actor, Devgn wrote, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m elated to win the Best Actor Award for Tanhaji&mdash;The Unsung Warrior at the 68th National Awards along with Suriya who won for Soorarai Pottru. I thank everyone, most of all my creative team, the audience and my fans. I also express my gratitude to my parents &amp; the Almighty for their blessings. Congratulations to all the other winners.&rdquo;
Expressing his gratitude, &lsquo;Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior&rsquo; director Om Raut said that it is an extremely proud and happy moment for the team as they have won three National Awards for a film.
He also congratulated Ajay Devgn for his win as the Best Actor for his film. He said that Ajay was Tanhaji in the truest form. He further congratulated Ajay&rsquo;s co-star, Saif Ali Khan, and Nachiket Barve and Mahesh Sherla on winning the award for Best Costume Designer for the film. Raut added that the award &ldquo;is for each person who worked on Tanhaji- they are all my unsung heroes&rdquo;.
