Former Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar alleged on Tuesday that jobs used to be on sale during the Congress rule in the state and said the BJP has set the system right and given jobs on the basis of merit.
Khattar said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments at the Centre and in the state have undertaken development work in various spheres.
He alleged that there was favouritism in giving jobs during the previous Congress-led regime in the state.
"Jobs used to be on sale. During the Congress rule, be it the job of a peon, clerk, superintendent, HCS, class 1, class 2 -- rates were fixed.
"We set the system right and deserving candidates got jobs on merit. We have given 1.3 lakh jobs purely on the basis of merit," the BJP leader said while addressing a gathering during his roadshow in Samalkha, which falls under the Karnal parliamentary constituency.
Khattar is the saffron party's candidate from Karnal in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.
"We will win all the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana as well as the Karnal Assembly seat (for which bypolls will be held along with the 10 parliamentary seats on May 25)," he said.
Khattar said the BJP will retain power at the Centre because people have seen the work the party did over the last 10 years.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar resigned along with his entire state cabinet on Tuesday amid speculations that the BJP-JJP coaltion goverment in the state is headed for a split.&nbsp;
Reacting to the development, Congress MP Deepender Hooda said that the people are unhappy with the Haryana government and have decided to bring in change. He said that the Congress is keeping a close watch on the situation.&nbsp;
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the chaos in Haryana as evidenced in the split was a reflection of growing people's angst over issues concerning farmers, youth and wrestlers.
"It is time for change," Ramesh said.
In a post in Hindi on X, he said, "The chaos that we are seeing in Haryana is a result of pressure from farmers, youths and wrestlers and the same is going to happen in the country too." Congress leader Kumari Selja said that "it is time for change" and accused the BJP of betraying the youths of the country. The Congress will get them justice, she said.
The Haryana Cabinet comprised 14 ministers, including Khattar and three members of the Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala-led JJP. All have resigned.
A new cabinet is likely to be sworn in at the oath-taking ceremony to be held at the governor's residence, sources said. The BJP has called a meeting of its MLAs at Haryana Niwas.&nbsp;

He said the police are investigating the matter and further action will be taken once the inquiry report comes.
Singh gave up his Sports portfolio on Sunday, saying he has taken the step on moral grounds, and claimed that the charges against him are baseless.
The former India hockey captain had said he has handed over the charge of the sports department to CM Khattar. However, he had not resigned from the BJP-led Haryana ministry.
"A woman sportsperson has levelled an absurd allegation against the sports minister. But just levelling an allegation does not make a person guilty. The police further probes the allegations.
"The Chandigarh police is investigating the matter and the Haryana Police too are gathering its report. We will take further action once the (inquiry) report comes," Khattar said in Rajasthan's Sirohi where he had gone to attend an event of the Brahma Kumaris.
"Being a minister in the sports department, an issue might have been raised that an impartial inquiry is not taking place. Therefore, he will not remain a sports minister, he has been removed from there so that a proper and fair inquiry takes place," the chief minister said.
The Chandigarh police on Saturday registered an FIR against the 36-year-old BJP leader on charges of sexual harassment and wrongful confinement.
The Haryana Director General of Police set up a committee after Singh lodged a complaint against the coach, claiming she had tarnished his image.
A 'khap panchayat' on Monday threatened to launch a big agitation if Singh is not sacked.
