BJP President JP Nadda has accepted Adesh Gupta's resignation

Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta resigned on Sunday, days after the party's defeat in the municipal corporation polls to the Aam Aadmi Party.
The BJP's Delhi unit vice president Virendra Sachdeva has been appointed acting president. &nbsp;The Aam Aadmi Party ended the BJP's 15-year-rule in the Municipal of Delhi (MCD) poll in results announced on Wednesday. The AAP won the elections with 134 seats, while the BJP bagged 104.
"The resignation of Adesh Gupta as Delhi BJP president has been accepted as per the direction of BJP national president Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda. Delhi unit vice president Virendra Sachdeva is being appointed working state unit chief till the next order," the BJP's national general secretary Arun Singh said in a communication.
The demand for an organisational overhaul in the Delhi BJP had begun immediately after the party's loss in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections.
Amid the clamour for change, Gupta had in a meeting on the result day, asserted he was not going to give up to "conspiracies" against him.
Gupta's performance has been under the scanner since he took charge as president of the Delhi BJP in June 2020.
Under his leadership, the party failed to win bypolls to some MCD wards in 2021 as well as the Rajender Nagar Assembly bypoll.

According to some Delhi BJP functionaries, Gupta's resignation does not mean much as he was anyway nearing the end of his term.
The organisational elections of the national BJP are scheduled to be complete in January 2023.
BJP leaders said the party constitution mandates organisational restructuring should be done in 50 per cent of state units ahead of changes in national organisation, they added.

Aam Aadmi Party candidate Bobi Kinnar who won the Sultanpuri-A ward has become the first member of the transgender community to be elected to the Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Bobi won the Sultanpuri-A seat by a margin of 6,714 votes over Congress candidate Varuna Dhaka.
This was her first stint with AAP. She contested the 2017 civic polls as an independent candidate.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday thanked the people for AAP's victory in the MCD polls and sought the cooperation of the BJP and the Congress as well as the "blessings" of the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to improve civic amenities here.
The AAP national convener batted for positive politics in the country to ensure that India becomes number one country in the world.
"We all have to improve the condition of Delhi and I need cooperation of all, including the BJP and Congress. We need cooperation of all, especially the help and blessings of the Centre and the prime minister to do so," Kejriwal said in his victory speech at AAP headquarters on DDU Marg.

The AAP won 132 seats in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi polls while the BJP was runner up with wins in 104 wards. The AAP's victory ended BJP's 15-year rule at the civic body.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia were also present at the victory celebration of the party.&nbsp;

Elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, spanning 250 wards began at 8 AM today.
More than 1.46 crore residents in 250 wards are eligible to vote in the civic polls, which are widely regarded as a three-way race between the BJP, the AAP, and the Congress.
Around 40,000 police personnel, 20,000 home guards, as well as 108 companies of paramilitary and state armed police forces, are deployed to ensure smooth conduct of elections.

The much delayed-Delhi MCD polls may happen by the end of this year, the Indian Express reported quoting BJP sources. According to its report, the BJP Delhi has asked its councillors and district and mandal units  to be prepared for the civic polls expected in December. 
The affirmation has come after the Centre earlier this month fixed the total number of seats in MCD at 250 from the existing 272 wards as part of the delimitation exercise.
Several leaders of the saffron party confirmed that preparations are on for the polls expected in the second week of December outlining that they have already begun with the outreach programmes.
Meanwhile, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party has also launched a garbae rally to expose BJP's mismangament in MCD.
The BJP ruled the corporation polls in the past three terms and it hopes to make the same mark, said Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta. He added that party president JP Nadda would be addressing over 70,000 people in mid-October including officer bearers at different levele.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi, which were originally scheduled for April this year were called off hours before announcement of election schedule.
