According to a researcher from Deakin University, burning scented candles can pollute homes with toxic chemicals that might be harmful to the lungs.&nbsp;
Dr. Svetlana Stevanovic explained that the combustion process releases particulates that go directly to our lungs. People may experience eye, nose and throat irritation or headaches and nausea. However, these health problems may depend on the level and length of exposure.&nbsp;
Scented candles become more toxic indoors. Hence, the key to burning candles and blowing them out is to use them in a well-ventilated area, the expert concluded.&nbsp;

<li>Stay away from friends and family who smoke. Smokers try to step outside to avoid indoor pollution&nbsp;</li>
<li>Avoid stepping out early in the morning or late evening as the air at that time is heavier and more polluted. Try to exercise indoors or between 10 am and 3 pm if you want to step out for it.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Even though people have stopped wearing masks these days, it is advised to wear a mask preferably N95 whenever stepping out. Wear masks even indoors while dusting or cleaning.</li>
<li>Heavy curtains, carpets and door mats should be vacuumed or cleaned at least every 2-3 months so that they don't collect dust or polluted air. &nbsp;</li>
<li>Include more citrus fruits and food rich in antioxidants. Proper nutrition can minimise the effects of pollution on your lungs. &nbsp;</li>
<li>Avoid lighting incense sticks or mosquito coils inside your homes. Try to plant more and more commonly available air purifying indoor plants like snake plant, bamboo or money plant.&nbsp;</li>
