A massive protest erupted at Punjab’s Lovely Professional University (LPU), a private university after a student died by suicide. 
Hailing from Kerala, the 21-year-old deceased was a first-year student of  bachelor of design at who died by suicide on Tuesday afternoon, the police said adding that the matter was brought to police’s notice by the university administration on Tuesday evening. 
Following the incident a large number of students gathered inside the Lovely Professional University campus to protest over the suicide of the first-year student. Heavy police deployment were made in view of the protest. 
The varsity issued a statement and said that the fraternity is“saddened by the unfortunate incident”. It also states that the deceased left a suicide note which cites personal issues.
Further investigation in the matter has been initiated by authorities

Lovely Professional University sacked an assistant professor for allegedly using derogatory language against Lord Ram.
A purported video of Assistant Professor Gursang Preet Kaur making the comments had surfaced on social media on Saturday, leading to the demand that she be sacked.
The private university in a statement said, "We understand that some people have been hurt by the video shared on social media, where one of our faculty members can be heard sharing her personal opinion." "We wish to clarify that the views shared by her are absolutely personal and the university does not endorse any of them. We have always been a secular university, where people from all religions and faith are treated equally with love and respect. She has been relieved from the services with immediate effect. However, we deeply regret this whole incident," the university added.
When contacted, university vice-president Aman Mittal said the assistant professor was sacked on Saturday.

The founder and chancellor of the university,&nbsp;Ashok Mittal, was nominated to the&nbsp;Rajya Sabha from Punjab by the Aam Aadmi Party in March this year.&nbsp;
