Protest erupts after student dies by suicide in Punjab's Lovely Professional University

A massive protest erupted at Punjab’s Lovely Professional University (LPU), a private university after a student died by suicide.

Hailing from Kerala, the 21-year-old deceased was a first-year student of bachelor of design at who died by suicide on Tuesday afternoon, the police said adding that the matter was brought to police’s notice by the university administration on Tuesday evening.

Following the incident a large number of students gathered inside the Lovely Professional University campus to protest over the suicide of the first-year student. Heavy police deployment were made in view of the protest.

The varsity issued a statement and said that the fraternity is“saddened by the unfortunate incident”. It also states that the deceased left a suicide note which cites personal issues.

Further investigation in the matter has been initiated by authorities.
