A fact-finding team of MPs and MLAs from the Left parties and the Congress looking into post-poll violence in Tripura, was attacked in Sepahijala district, police said. 

The CPI(M) said that the joint team of the Left and the Congress were visiting various violence-hit areas of West Tripura, Sepahijala and Khowa.&nbsp;

A fact-finding team of MPs and MLAs from the Left parties and the Congress looking into post-poll violence in Tripura, was attacked in Sepahijala district, police said.
No one of the eight-member team was injured in the attack in Nehalchandrangar, Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Law &amp; Order, Jyotishman Das Chowdhury said.
Two-three vehicles with leaders of the Left parties and the Congress on board were vandalised by unknown miscreants, he said.
&nbsp;&ldquo;A delegation of MPs, MLAs and local leaders of the Left parties and the Congress made an unscheduled visit to Nehalchandranagar in Bishalgarh today. During their visit, sloganeering was done and their vehicles were attacked by some miscreants. The police escort team responded quickly and rescued members of the delegation safely.
"No injury to any person was reported but two-three vehicles have been damaged in the attack," the officer said.
One person has been detained in the incident, he said.
"Raids are on to identify and arrest other miscreants. Senior police officers are there at the spot&rdquo;, he said.

The CPI(M) said that the joint team of the Left and the Congress were visiting various violence-hit areas of West Tripura, Sepahijala and Khowa during the day.
&ldquo;Once the delegation, comprising CPI(M) MP E Karim and Congress MP Abdul Khaliq and AICC general secretary Ajay Kumar landed at Nehalchandrangar market, they were attacked by miscreants raising slogans of &lsquo;Bharat Mata Ki Jai&rsquo;.&nbsp;
One vehicle was severely damaged, while two more cars were also vandalised," senior CPI(M) leader Rakhal Majumder said.
&ldquo;Our members were saved as they shifted promptly from there&rdquo;, he said, adding that Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president Birajit Sinha and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury, who won the election, were also part of the fact-finding delegation.
The team is expected to stay in the state till March 12 after which it will submit a report and the issue will be raised in the next Parliament session, which will begin on March 13, CPI MP Binoy Viswam had tweeted on Thursday.
The CPI(M) condemned the attack on the delegation and demanded arrest of all the miscreants immediately.
At least 20 shops were set on fire in the post-poll violence at Nehalchandranagar, a border village of Bishalgarh subdivision, on Wednesday night.
Most of the post-poll violence cases were reported from Sepahijala and Khowai districts.
Chief Minister Manik Saha asked the police to take stern action against the miscreants in order to maintain peace and tranquillity.
The Tripura assembly election results were announced on March 2.
The BJP-IPFT government returned to power in the state for the second consecutive term as the saffron party bagged 32 seats in the 60-member assembly, while its ally the Indigenous Peoples' Front of Tripura got one constituency.

Since before Tripura attained full statehood in 1972 till 2018, its politics was dominated by first the Congress, and then the Left front. Left parties ruled the state for 35 years - 25 of them in an unbroken streak. But five years ago, the Bharatiya Janata Party staged a grand upset.
Now, the Congress and Left have turned into friends from enemies, forming an alliance to try and dethrone the BJP. Both released separate manifestos while also promising a common minimum programme.
Here are some highlights from the Congress vision document.
After winning Himachal Pradesh with the old pension scheme promise, Congress has included it in the Tripura manifesto. Also part of the document is a twice-a-year dearness allowance hike for government employees. The party says it will create 50,000 job opportunities, and also increase labour wages according to consumer price index inflation.
Congress says it will make 150 units of electricty free. It has also promised a 20-point programme to help the poor and middle class. The party says that it will support the 125th Constitution Amendment Bill which will create tribal bodies at the village and municipal levels.
Congress has also promised to resolve the issue of more than 10,000 teachers being sacked due to a legal tussle over recruitment rules. It also promised better remuneration to Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers.
The manifesto released by the Left Front addresses many of the same issues.
The Left has also promised a return to the Old Pension Scheme, and bi-annual dearness allowance hikes. It has promised the creation of 2.5 lakh new jobs, as well as the reinstatement of the 10,000 retrenched teachers.
The Left says it will grant a high level of autonomy to the tribal council. For the poor, a Left government would ensure 200 days of work every year. Contract workers would also be regularized.
On the social security front, the Left parties have promised a senior citizen pension to those with annual incomes below ₹1 lakh.

Many of the BJP's promises are aimed at providing greater autonomy to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.

In 2018, the Bharatiya Janata Party stormed to power in Tripura for the first time, with the help of ally IPFT. The saffron party ended 25 years of continuous rule by the Left front.
However, less than a year before the next Assembly elections, the BJP changed the state Chief Minister, with Biplab Deb resigning and making way for Manik Saha. The change was seen by many as an admission of anti-incumbency.
Now the party is facing an alliance of the Congress and Left, a relatively new party - TIPRA Motha - hoping to capture tribal votes, and a foray into the state by West Bengal's ruling party Trinamool Congress. The BJP's manifesto has attempted to address the challenges posed by the varied Opposition.
Here are some highlights.
The biggest focus in BJP's vision document is the tribal community, with the party promising more legislative, executive, and financial powers to the autonomous tribal council if it wins. The BJP also said it would place IGP-level officers in tribal council areas for the effective maintenance of law and order. Also, tribal courts would be set up in TTAADC areas to preserve customary laws and traditions.
On the financial front, the party promised population-wise fund allocation and their timely transfer to the tribal council. A new Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Tribal University and the addition of the tribal language of Kokborok to CBSE and ICSE curricula are also part of the promises.

Among the larger promises, the BJP said that it would implement a ₹5 meal-for-all scheme, named after Anukul Chandra. Every girl child would get a ₹50,000 Balika Samriddhi bond. If BJP is re-elected, its government would add ₹2,000 to the ₹6,000 given to farmers under the PM-KISAN scheme by the Central government.
Also, a new Regional Institute of Medical Sciences would be set up in Agartala. On the economic front, industry-specific manufacturing zones would be set up for rubber, agar, and bamboo.
BJP's critics have accused the ruling party of being silent on the creation of jobs, as well as pension and Dearness Allowance (DA) hikes for more than 1.8 lakh government employees.

In a video message, Hindu Sena's vice president "warned" those opposed to 'bhagwa' or saffron. Without listing specific instances, the Hindu Sena accused elements at JNU of trying to insult 'Saffron'. Srujit Yadav said, "At the Jawaharlal Nehru University, those opposed to Saffron have been insulting it. Hindu Sena warns them and asks them to mend their ways. They should stop trying to insult Saffron. We respect you, we respect all religions, we respect all ideologies. But the way in which Saffron is being insulted in JNU will not be tolerated by Hindu Sena. We can take any strong action over this."

The Left group claimed ABVP members attacked them for cooking chicken on the Hindu festival of Ram Navami. Meanwhile, ABVP claimed that Left members disrupted and attacked their Ram Navami prayer event. Vice Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit said that JNU is a democratic, nationalistic institute, and she wants to change the incorrect perception that the university houses "tukde-tukde" gangs.

She said, "I want to correct the public perception that we are tukde-tukde....after I've taken over, I've not seen anybody talking like that. We are as nationalistic as anybody else.&nbsp;JNU is a free university. We respect individuals' choices. It's a melting pot of all identities. Young people have opinions and we appreciate diversity and dissent but let's not end up having violence."

In 2013, in a gruesome incident an undergraduage student of the School of Languages, Literature and Cultural Studies, hit his female friend with an axe on the head. Immediately after the boy, who was carrying a country made gun with him, nicked himself on the neck. The boy died, the girl survived. 
On February 09, 2016 a gathering was organised by certain left student organisations. The public meeting was held on the day of Afzal Guru's hanging in 2003. ABVP students protested against the event, and clashes ensued. A group of individuals allegedly raised anti-India slogans, on the basis of which, the police filed a sedition case against the then JNUSU president, Kanhaiya Kumar. Apart from Kumar, sedition cases were also filed against Anirban Bhattacharya and Umer Khalid.
After being released from jail, Kanhaiya delivered a speech late at night which was attended by thousands, launching his political career. 
Shortly after, BJP leader Gyan Dev Ahuja, alleged that the university was in fact a sex den and 50% of the rapes and molestation of women in Delhi were committed by students of JNU. He added further that 3,000 condoms and 2,000 bottles of liquor could be found each day in the campus. The university is 8,000 students strong as of 2022. 
That wasn't the only time JNU and condoms were used in the same sentence. In 2005, JNU got its first condom vending machine. Many Delhiits and students residing in Delhi used to make trips to the campus to "just look" at the machines. 
In November 2020, the JNU admin filed a case against unknown individuals for vandalising the not yet unveiled statue of Vivekananda. 
And earlier that year, before Covid was a perceptible threat, in January, around a hundred masked 'intruders' entered the university and beat up students. JNUSU president Aishi Ghosh was injured in the attack. No action against the perpetrators has been taken yet.
