RJD president Lalu Prasad on Monday filed his nomination papers to seek re-election to the top post in the party he has been heading since its inception nearly three decades ago.
The 78-year-old, who has grown frail because of age and multiple ailments, reached the party office, accompanied by younger son and heir apparent Tejashwi Yadav and wife Rabri Devi, who had succeeded her husband as the chief minister of Bihar.
A large number of RJD workers had reached the party office to catch a glimpse of the leader, once known for his earthy but electrifying presence.
Talking to reporters on the occasion, Yadav said, "A wave of delight has swept across party workers upon Lalu ji completing his tenure and raring to go for another. We are confident his leadership will steer us to victory in the days to come".
Notably, at the party's state council meeting held here last week, Prasad had called upon RJD workers to approach the upcoming assembly polls with the resolve to make Yadav the next "Chief Minister" of Bihar.
According to RJD spokesman Chittaranjan Gagan, who is also the assistant returning officer for the organisational polls, a formal announcement of Prasad's re-election will be made in due course.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal had come into being in 1997, as a result of a split in the Janata Dal engineered by Prasad.

Land-for-jobs probe: ED arrested 'associate' of Lalu Prasad Yadav

Katyal, according to the ED, is a "close associate" of the Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo as well as a former director of A K Infosystems Private Limited.

The Enforcement Directorate has arrested Amit Katyal, an alleged associate of RJD chief Lalu Prasad and his son Tejashwi Yadav, in connection with a money laundering investigation into the alleged land-for-jobs scam case, official sources said on Saturday.
Katyal was detained by the agency on Friday and was arrested after questioning, they said. He is expected to be produced before a local court where the ED will seek his custody for interrogation.
Sources said Katyal was evading the agency's summons for questioning for about two months.
The Delhi High Court had recently rejected his plea to quash the ED summons against him in this case.
The premises of Katyal were raided by the federal agency in March when it had also covered the premises of Lalu Prasad, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, his sisters and others.
A K Infosystems Private Limited is allegedly a "beneficiary company" in the case and its registered address is a residential building in south Delhi's New Friends Colony, which was being used by Tejashwi Yadav.
The alleged scam pertains to the period when Prasad was the railway minister in the UPA-1 government.
It is alleged that from 2004 to 2009, several people were appointed to Group "D" positions in various zones of the Indian Railways and in lieu, these people transferred their land to the family members of the then railway minister Prasad and A K Infosystems Private Limited.
The ED case, filed under the criminal sections of the PMLA, stems from a complaint lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
According to the CBI, no advertisement or public notice was issued for appointment, but some residents of Patna were appointed as substitutes in different zonal railways in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hazipur.
As a quid pro quo, the candidates, directly or through their immediate family members, allegedly sold land to Prasad's family members at highly discounted rates, up to one-fourth to one-fifth of the prevailing market rates, the CBI has alleged.&nbsp;

Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter Roshni to donate kidney to her father

Ailing Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Yadav&rsquo;s Singapore-based daughter will donate a kidney to her father, a close family member said.
Yadav, 74, returned last month from Singapore where he had gone for treatment of his kidney problems.
The RJD president, who has been suffering from multiple health problems, was advised a kidney transplant.
His daughter Roshni Acharya, based in Singapore, has stepped in to give her father a new lease of life, a family member told PTI.

RJD president Lalu Prasad on Wednesday called the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh a "Hindu extremist organisation" that deserved to be banned.
Prasad made the remark replying to queries from journalists about the Union Home Ministry's ban on Popular Front of India and several of its associates under a stringent anti-terror law.
"They keep raising the bogey of PFI. It is the RSS, which is all about Hindu extremism (‘kattarpanth’), which deserves to be banned first,” said the septuagenarian with characteristic candor.
Prasad, who is away in Delhi in connection with his party's organisational polls, reiterated that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will see a "wipe out" (‘safaya ho jayega’) of the BJP, the political offshoot of the RSS, which is ruling at the Centre for the second consecutive term.
The ailing RJD chief replied with an emphatic "bilkul" (of course) when asked whether he hoped that his son Tejashwi Yadav, currently the deputy CM of Bihar, will one day rule the state.
However, the staunch loyalist of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi gave a guarded response when asked if he foresaw a situation where Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will "run the country" (‘desh ko sambhalenge’).
"’Sab log mil kar sambhalenge’ (we all will run the show together),” said Prasad, who along with Kumar, had met Gandhi on Sunday.
"We had fruitful talks with Sonia Gandhi. There will be more meetings as the situation evolves,” he said.
The RJD supremo also frowned upon many BJP leaders raising questions as to why photographs of the meeting with Gandhi were not released, and whether Nitish and he returned after a long wait, without having met her.
"We had gone to meet a lady in her chamber. Was it a photo session? We must have spoken for an hour or so and they claim there was no meeting,” the former Bihar CM said.

"I can come out with countless video clips and other evidence to prove the physical and verbal abuse suffered by me, my parents and my siblings," said Yadav who claimed to have “maintained silence” ever since he filed a petition seeking divorce four years ago.
The maverick RJD MLA had tied the knot with Aishwarya Rai, a granddaughter of late former chief minister Daroga Prasad Rai, in May 2018. Their union lasted for less than six months.
Aishwarya stayed on at the house of mother-in-law Rabri Devi, a former CM herself, in an apparent bid to save her marriage before storming out on a rainy winter night, alleging before a posse of journalists that she had been driven out.
Her father Chandrika Rai vowed to avenge the insult "politically" and quit the RJD to join Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), but failed to retain his pocket borough Parsa assembly seat in 2020.

PTI, Banka/Bhagalpur:&nbsp;Beginning his election tours with a public meeting at Banka, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Wednesday alerted people not to fall in anybody's "publicity trap" else while their income would multiply but that of the common man would slide as was the case before the present dispensation came on the scene.
He cautioned people that any error in making a right decision while casting vote would pave way for return of condition that prevailed 15 years before the NDA assumed reins of the state in 2005 end.
After launching campaign for Bihar polls on Monday with a virtual rally and addressing two more digital rallies Tuesday, Kumar started addressing election meetings physically with a public meeting at Balua maidan in Banka district during the day.
From there he flew to Bhagalpur to address a second rally at Sultanganj and after that another one at Munger and the last in Mokama in the outskirts of Patna.
On return to the state capital, he addressed a virtual rally from the party headquarters in a bid to reach out to maximum number of people during the election.
Reports from ground zero suggested that while the CM and others sitting on the dais wore masks and maintained social distancing norms to ward off danger of spread of deadly coronavirus, among the general public who had turned up in good numbers in the rallies many were sighted without mask and standing in close proximity to each other.
Seeking vote for his party candidates, Kumar who heads the ruling Janata Dal (United), listed achievements of his governments in the last 15 years and reeled out figure to compare them with the situation prevailing in the state for an equal amount of time before that.
The RJD was in power in Bihar from 1990 to 2005. Kumar is at the helm of state affairs since then.
Kumar has already made it clear that "15 years vs 15 years" would be the dominant narrative in the present state elections.
"Look at the work and don't fall in anybody's publicity trap else while their income would multiply but yours would come down as was the case 15 years before we came on the scene to reconstruct Bihar," the JD(U)'s star campaigner said.
Making a scathing attack at his bete noire Lalu Prasad, Kumar said "some people work only for their wife, sons and daughters while for me the entire Bihar is the family for whom I work day and night." While, Prasad two sons and eldest daughter are occupying prominent posts in the party and also holding constitutional positions, neither Kumar's lone son nor any other members of his family are active in politics.
Kumar's wife has already died.
The RJD supremo's younger son Tejashwi Yadav has been accepted as their chief ministerial candidate by the Grand Alliance partners.
"Apne liye kaam karne wale andaar hai (those who work for themselves only are behind the bars today because of their deeds," he said while taking a veiled dig at Prasad.
Prasad is in jail in Ranchi after conviction in four cases of the multi-crore rupees fodder scam.
Taking a jibe at the opponents, he said "while we will work for Bihar, they will work for upliftment of their family. We will work for progress while they will spend time on 'satyanash' (destruction) of the state." The JD(U) president reiterated that if voters give him another chance, his government would unroll "Saat Nischay" (Seven resolves) part II, to take up more developmental programmes in the state.
Seven resolves part I, launched by the Kumar administration for its 2015-20 term, comprised seven schemes to ensure basic necessities such as supply of piped drinking water, construction of toilets and concrete drains and electricity connection to every household. Most of the projects have been completed.
Its second part will focus on enhancing skill of youths to brighten their jobs prospect, promoting entrepreneurship among women by providing them financial assistance, irrigation facility to every agriculture field and additional health facilities for people and animals.
He made special mention of work done for empowerment of women by giving them 50 per cent reservation in election to panchayats and urban local bodies and earmarking 35 per cent jobs for them in the state government.

"Apne liye kaam karne wale andaar hai (those who work for themselves only are behind the bars today because of their deeds," he said while taking a veiled dig at Prasad.
Prasad is in jail in Ranchi after conviction in four cases of the multi-crore rupees fodder scam.
Taking a jibe at the opponents, he said "while we will work for Bihar, they will work for upliftment of their family. We will work for progress while they will spend time on 'satyanash' (destruction) of the state." The JD(U) president reiterated that if voters give him another chance, his government would unroll "Saat Nischay" (Seven resolves) part II, to take up more developmental programmes in the state.
Seven resolves part I, launched by the Kumar administration for its 2015-20 term, comprised seven schemes to ensure basic necessities such as supply of piped drinking water, construction of toilets and concrete drains and electricity connection to every household. Most of the projects have been completed.
Its second part will focus on enhancing skill of youths to brighten their jobs prospect, promoting entrepreneurship among women by providing them financial assistance, irrigation facility to every agriculture field and additional health facilities for people and animals.
He made special mention of work done for empowerment of women by giving them 50 per cent reservation in election to panchayats and urban local bodies and earmarking 35 per cent jobs for them in the state government.

The JD(U) released list of the candidates at a press conference addressed by state president Basistha Narayan Singh, party leader in Rajya Sabha RCP Singh and its state working president Ashok Choudhary.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar headed party has already allocated seven seats out of its quota of 122 seats in the 243-member assembly to its associate partner Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) of former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.
Roy, father of Tej Pratap Yadav's estranged wife Aishwarya, had recently switched over to the JD(U) from RJD.
Roy, son of former chief minister Daroga Prasd Rai and a minister in the RJD government in the past as well in the 2015 Grand Alliance ministry, will be in fray from Parsa constituency in Saran district which he has represented six times in the past.

Speaker of the outgoing assembly Vijay Kumar Chaudhary will contest from his traditional seat Saraiganj in Samastipur district.
Ministers- Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Ram Sevak Singh, Shrawan Kumar, Jai Kumar Singh, Bima Bharti, Madan Sahni, Khursheed Firoz Ahmad, Shailesh Kumar and Krishnandan Prasad Varma have been repeated from their old constituencies.
Jaivardhan Singh Yadav, grandson of former Bihar minister and a powerful yadav leader Ramlakhan Singh Yadav has been given ticket from his old seat Paliganj while Faraz Fatmi has been named from Darbhanga rural seat. Both had left RJD and joined JD(U) recently.
The two RLSP MLAs-Lallan Paswan and Sudhansu Sekhar- who had crossed over to Kumar's party have also been renominated.
HAM has already named its seven candidates. Jitan Ram Manjhi filed his nomination Wednesday from Imamganj (reserved SC) seat.&nbsp;

His condition had deteriorated on Friday night, after which the 74-year-old was put on a ventilator. A staunch loyalist of&nbsp;RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, Singh quit the party a few months ago. Raghuvansh Singh accused the RJD of promoting nepotism and &ldquo;feudalism&rdquo;, without taking names. Condoling the death of Raghuvansh, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad tweeted that he was very sad and will miss him. PM Modi also condoled his death, he said Raghuvansh Prasad Singh's demise has left a void in the political sphere of Bihar as well as the country.
