Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that the arrested individuals were part of a module covertly controlled by overseas handlers Mannu Agwan, Gopi Nawanshehria, and Zeeshan Akhtar, all of whom were operating under orders from Harwinder Singh alias Rinda, a BKI operative based in Pakistan.
The apprehended individuals include Ritik Naroliya, from Didawata village in Jaipur, Rajasthan; Sonu Kumar, also known as Kali, from Kala Sanghian village in Kapurthala; alongside three juveniles. Police recovered a hand grenade, a .30 bore pistol, two live cartridges, and two spent shells from the suspects.
This group was implicated in a grenade attack on a liquor store in SBS Nagar on August 7. Further, they were allegedly instructed to execute additional attacks leading up to Independence Day.
DGP Gaurav Yadav highlighted the significance of the operation, asserting that it successfully thwarted further planned attacks by this terror cell. Efforts are ongoing to uncover other potential connections linked to this case.
Assistant Inspector General Navjot Mahal recounted that during a subsequent recovery operation, Sonu Kumar attempted to fire upon police officers. Law enforcement responded in self-defense, resulting in Sonu sustaining a gunshot wound. He is currently receiving medical treatment at the Civil Hospital in SBS Nagar.

The module was being operated by foreign-based handlers Mannu Agwan, Gopi Nawanshehria and Zeeshan Akhtar on the directions of Pak-based BKI operative Harwinder Singh alias Rinda.
Those arrested have been identified as Ritik Naroliya, a resident of village Didawata in Jaipur, Rajasthan; Sonu Kumar alias Kali, a resident of village Kala Sanghian in Kapurthala and three juveniles. Police teams have also recovered one 86P hand-grenade and one .30 bore pistol along with two live cartridges and two empty shells.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the module had planned an attack inside a liquor store in SBS Nagar recently.
It is worth mentioning that this module had carried out a grenade attack at liquor store in SBS Nagar on August 7, 2025.
The DGP said that the operatives were further tasked to attempt such attacks during the period leading up to the Independence Day. The arrested accused were receiving direct instructions from foreign-based Zeeshan Akhtar and BKI mastermind Mannu Agwan, who is working in close coordination with Pak-based BKI operative Harwinder Rinda, he said.
&ldquo;We have successfully averted further planned attacks by this terror module,&rdquo; said DGP Gaurav Yadav, while adding that probe is on to establish forward and backward linkages in this case.
Sharing more details, AIG CI Jalandhar Navjot Mahal said that in an intelligence-led operation, all the five accused persons from the areas of Tonk and Jaipur districts of Rajasthan.
He said that during a follow-up recovery operation, arrested accused Sonu alias Kali attempted to open fire at the police party. In self-defence, the police party retaliated, resulting in a bullet injury to accused Sonu alias Kali, he said, while adding that the injured accused was immediately shifted to Civil Hospital in SBS Nagar, where he is undergoing treatment.
In this regard, an FIR under sections 109, 324(5) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act has been registered at police station City Nawanshahr.

This latest action follows closely on the heels of the EC's previous announcement on Saturday, where the poll body delisted 334 such parties for non-compliance with electoral laws and related rules.
"This marks the second round of the initiative, with another 476 RUPPs identified across various states and Union Territories. To ensure fairness in this process, Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) in the respective states and UTs have been instructed to issue show-cause notices to these parties, offering them an opportunity for a hearing through the concerned CEOs," stated the EC in an official release.
Predominantly, the current list of parties facing delisting comprises entities from Uttar Pradesh (121), followed by Maharashtra (44), Tamil Nadu (42), and Delhi (41). Bihar, which is on the verge of Assembly elections, has 15 parties on the list.
Since 2001, the Election Commission has embarked on several rounds of removing defunct RUPPs, this being the third or fourth such instance.
Although the Supreme Court barred the EC from "derecognising" political parties, citing the absence of a legal provision for such action, the commission has opted for "delisting" instead. Importantly, parties removed from the list can potentially be reinstated by the EC without the necessity of undergoing the fresh recognition process.
EC officials have highlighted past violations of income tax provisions and the anti-money laundering law by some RUPPs.
Under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the EC registers political parties&mdash;encompassing national, state, or registered unrecognised entities&mdash;granting them various privileges, including tax exemptions.

As directed by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, Police teams have also conducted flag marches at all the sensitive areas in all the 28 police districts simultaneously, followed by, cordon and search operations (CASOs) at all the vulnerable spots.
Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla said that Police teams led by CPs/SSPs conducted Flag Marches in the sensitive and vulnerable areas of their respective districts. The exercise was aimed to boost the confidence of the general public, besides, preparing police personnel to tackle any untoward situation, he said.
The Special DGP said that the CPs/SSPs were also directed to conduct a special Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) under the supervision of an SP-rank officer at all the crowded places including Railway Stations, Bus Stands, Markets, Shopping Malls, Public Parks, etc across the state. &ldquo;We had strictly instructed all the Police Personnel to deal with every person in a friendly and polite manner while frisking them during the course of this operation,&rdquo; he added.
He said that around 250 police teams, involving over 1500 police personnel, were deputed across the state to look for suspicious persons in the state, while ensuring minimum inconvenience to the general public.
Apart from this, Police teams have continued its cordon and search operation (CASO) against drugs on Day 165, and conducted raids at 374 locations on Wednesday leading to the arrest of 73 drug smugglers after registration of 53 first information reports (FIRs) across the state. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached to 25,719 within 165 days.
The Special DGP said that the raids have resulted in recovery of 2.4 kg heroin and Rs 42,800 drug money from the possession of arrested drug smugglers.
He informed that over 120 Police teams, comprising over 1100 police personnel, under the supervision of 73 gazetted officers have conducted raids across the state and checked as many as 406 suspicious persons during the day long operation.
The Special DGP said that with the state government has enforced a three-pronged strategy&mdash; Enforcement, Deaddiction and Prevention (EDP)&mdash; to eradicate drugs from the state, the Punjab Police as part of &lsquo;De-addiction&rsquo; has convinced 61 persons to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment today.

The accident took place late Wednesday night as the bus traveled from Gorakhpur to Delhi.
According to police accounts, the driver of the sleeper bus lost control, leading to the vehicle overturning on the highway near Dharouli village. The chaos that ensued was quickly met with aid as nearby villagers rushed to the scene, hearing the distress calls of the trapped passengers.
