"Certain individuals have been attempting to disclose the victim's identity in the Kasba case through the distribution of confidential documents or other means. This constitutes a serious legal breach," the advisory warned.
The advisory cautioned the public against sharing any documents, images, or social media content that could directly or indirectly reveal the victim's identity, noting it is punishable under relevant laws. The police declared that strict legal action would ensue against anyone indulging in such acts. Public members have been strongly advised to avoid sharing any information potentially leading to the identification of the victim.
Kolkata Police underscored that protecting a rape victim's identity is not only a legal mandate but also an ethical obligation. &ldquo;Respecting victims&rsquo; dignity and privacy is both a legal obligation and an ethical responsibility,&rdquo; the statement highlighted.
