Ukrainian rescuers removed a 500-kilogram air-dropped bomb from the roof of a residential building in Kharkiv on Thursday.
The bomb was dropped on the building in the neighbourhood of Saltiv three months ago.
Deminers had removed the detonator of the bomb the day after it was dropped, but continuous shelling in the region made the removal of the shell impossible until now.
"When there was shelling and a direct war in Kharkiv city these works were usually not done by anyone," head of humanitarian demining unit Ihor Ovcharuk said.

The village had been under Russian occupation for more than a month.
Almost half the village escaped in buses, in shrapnel-damaged cars or on foot, after fierce battles saw Russian troops pushed back and Ukraine take full control of the village, according to the Kharkiv regional governor.
A video posted by Ukraine's Azov battalion showed troops raising the blue and yellow Ukrainian flag over the government building in the center of the village, though fighting continued on the outskirts.
Upon arrival to Kharkiv, less than 20 kilometres (12 miles) away, those who fled described the dire conditions they faced.
"We were hiding in the basement, it was horrific. The basement was shaking from the explosions, we were screaming, we were crying and we were praying to God," said resident Ludmila Bocharnikova.
Getting a full picture of the unfolding battle in the east has been difficult because airstrikes and artillery barrages have made it extremely dangerous for reporters to move around.
Several journalists have been killed in the war.
Both Ukraine and the Moscow-backed rebels fighting in the east also have introduced tight restrictions on reporting from the combat zone.

The mortal remains of an Indian student from Karnataka, who was killed in Russian shelling in war-torn Ukraine, reached Bengaluru on Monday.
Naveen Shekarappa Gyanagaudar, a final year medical student at Kharkiv National Medical University, died on March 1 while he was standing in a queue to buy food and other supplies. 
Naveen's family members, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai were among the others present at the airport to receive the body.
The Karnataka Chief Minister handed over a cheque of ₹ 25 lakh to the family of Naveen and promised a job for a family member.
The body was then taken to his native place, Chalageri village of Ranebennur taluk in Haveri district.
Naveen's parents have decided to donate the body to a private hospital in Davangere' after paying their last respects.

But Garbuz added fewer COVID-19 patients have come through the door since the beginning of the Russian aggression because of the large exodus of people from the city.
