Babri Masjid demolition: Supreme court dismisses all contempt proceedings against former UP CM Kalyan Singh, others
 

The Supreme court of India on Tuesday dropped all contempt proceedings arising out of the Babri Masjid demolition case in 1992.&nbsp;

The Supreme court of India on Tuesday closed a contempt case in the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition matter. The contempt case was filed against the then Uttar Pradesh CM Kalyan Singh and other officials.
They were accused of allowing the Rath Yatra and not stopping the Babri Masjid demolition despite the assurance of security by the government causing communal unrest.&nbsp;
The top court stated that a larger bench had already passed a verdict in the over two-decade long legal battle over the disputed land.&nbsp;
Moreover, the court stated that the person who filed the plea and the former UP CM against whom the plea was, are both dead. Thus, nothing in the case can survive.&nbsp;
Significantly, a five-judge bench of the apex court had passed a verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute case in November 2019.&nbsp;
The court had awarded the entire disputed land to the Hindu parties to build Ram temple while an alternative 5 acres of the land was assigned to the Waqf board for construction of the mosque.&nbsp;
Other cases in the demolition matter are not affected due to this SC ruling.&nbsp;

"The country has lost a valuable personality and a capable leader. To fulfill the void left by him, we should do maximum hard work for his ideals, his promises and leave no effort in achieving his dreams," the PM said.
The prime minister said Singh lived true to his name given to him by his parents.
&ldquo;He lived his entire life for public welfare. He made 'jan kalyan' as the mantra of his life, and dedicated his life for the BJP, Bharatiya Jana Sangh family, for an ideology and for the bright future of the country," he said.
He hailed Singh as a committed decision maker who symbolised &ldquo;trust&rdquo; across the country.
&ldquo;For the most part of his life, he made efforts for public welfare. Whatever responsibility he had got, be it as an MLA, any post in the government, or as a governor, he had been a centre of inspiration for everyone. He became a symbol of trust for the public," the PM&nbsp;added.

A special CBI court in Lucknow will deliver the much-awaited judgment in the 1992&nbsp;Babri&nbsp;Masjid demolition case in which BJP veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi are among the accused on Wednesday.&nbsp;CBI judge SK Yadav had on September 16 directed all the&nbsp;32 surviving&nbsp;accused to remain present in the court on the day of the judgment.&nbsp;The accused include former deputy prime minister Advani, former Union ministers Joshi and Uma Bharti, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh, besides Vinay Katiyar and Sadhvi&nbsp;Rithambara.&nbsp;With both Bharti and Singh convalescing in separate hospitals after coronavirus infection, it&nbsp;is highly unlikely&nbsp;that&nbsp;they would be present in the court at the time of pronouncement of order.&nbsp;Singh, during whose tenure as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh the disputed structure was demolished, was put on trial in September last year after his tenure as governor of Rajasthan came to an end.&nbsp;Champat&nbsp;Rai, the general secretary of the trust in charge of constructing the Ram temple, is also among those accused.&nbsp;
