Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday, in a series of tweets on Monday, said the people of Jammu and Kashmir accepted the national tricolour in 1947 but with certain constitutional guarantees such as their own flag and a separate constitution, which were "bulldozed in 2019".

She alleged that Kashmiris were threatened with consequences and made to hoist the national flag on Independence Day by the J&amp;K administration.

"Lest we forget, people of J&amp;K accepted Indian flag in October 1947. But on certain conditions &amp; constitutional guarantees like their own flag &amp; a separate constitution way before BJP&rsquo;s ideological parent - the RSS accepted it," Mehbooba said in a series of tweets on Independence Day.
She posted a photograph from the 1950s showing India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru addressing a gathering in Srinagar's Lal Chowk.
"Jawahar Lal Nehru standing tall between two flags, the Indian national flag &amp; J&amp;Ks state flag adopted constitutionally in 1952 &amp; bulldozed in 2019 to fulfil BJPs divisive agenda. Now, every foundational value that the Indian flag stands for too lies in peril," she said.
She questioned the claims of the Jammu and Kashmir administration that scores of Kashmiris had hoisted the national flag on the occasion of the 76th Independence Day.
The former chief minister, "JK admin shamelessly boasts about Kashmiris hoisting Indian flag. Truth is they were threatened to do so or else face the consequences. Post 75 years of accession, GOI used all the might at its disposal to force people here to join its charade of pseudo &amp; monetised patriotism," she wrote and posted a video in support of her allegations.&nbsp;

Speaking at a flag hoisting ceremony held in Guwahati to mark the 76th Independence Day, Sarma said there are about four lakh cases pending in the lower judiciary.
He said the government has decided that minor cases registered before midnight of August 14, 2021, will be withdrawn, adding that this will enable the judiciary to focus on more heinous crimes such as rapes and murders.
In an apparent message to militant groups ULFA(I) and NSCN who called for a 'boycott'' of Independence Day celebrations and 'total shutdown' in Assam and other Northeastern states,&nbsp; Sarma asserted that Assam is an integral part of India and that those who are still dreaming of "sovereignty" should return to the discussion table.
The mass participation in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' programme in the state since Saturday has brought to fore the patriotic feeling that is inherent in each person's heart, the chief minister said.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday dedicated 75 'Aam Aadmi Clinics' to the people of the state to mark 75 years of India's independence.

These mohalla clinics will offer around 100 types of clinical tests for free, besides giving medicines to patients at no cost.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday dedicated 75 'Aam Aadmi Clinics' to the people of the state to mark 75 years of India's independence.
Hoisting the national flag during a state-level function at Guru Nanak Stadium here, Mann said these mohalla clinics will offer around 100 types of clinical tests for free, besides giving medicines to patients at no cost.
Each of these clinics will have four staff members, including an MBBS doctor and a laboratory technician, he said.
"Today, we dedicate 75 mohalla clinics to mark 75 years of Independence," Mann told the media. More such clinics will be launched in the coming days, he added.
"We had promised to set up mohalla clinics in Punjab. The experiment of setting up such in Delhi has been very successful," he said.
Responding to the Opposition's criticism of converting buildings of 'Sewa Kendras' into 'Aam Aadmi Clinics', Mann said the structures had been lying in shambles and they were converted into 'Aam Aadmi Clinics' or mohalla clinics after renovation.

"We are fulfilling our promises," the chief minister claimed.
Mann also spoke about his government's other initiatives such as 'One MLA, One Pension' and free electricity.
"After the AAP government was formed, we started taking decisions from Day One, and now, results of these decisions have started coming," he said.
"One MLA, One Pension law has been implemented. We spoke about giving 300 units of free electricity from July 1. In around 20 days, 51 lakh households will get zero electricity bills," he said.

The blast took place at a distance from the Panchayat Ghar where the local sarpanch or village head was hoisting the tricolour.

A mysterious blast was reported from Nar Balakote area in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Monday where Independence Day celebrations were scheduled to take place.
A parked vehicle suffered damage in the blast but no casualties have been reported so far, said officials.
The blast took place at a distance from the Panchayat Ghar where the local sarpanch or village head was hoisting the tricolour.
A probe into the incident has been launched, as per a police officer who spoke to Global News Service. &ldquo;It was a mysterious blast. Nature and other technical details are been investigated.&rdquo;&nbsp;

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) sought the resignation of Water Resources Minister Tulsi Silawat "on moral grounds" and also demanded a probe into the contract given to an allegedly corrupt firm for the construction of the dam.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday alleged that a "self-obsessed" government is hell-bent on "trivialising" the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the party will strongly oppose such attempts made for political gains.
Gandhi's attack came a day after the BJP released a video narrating its version of events that led to India's partition in 1947 in which it tangentially accused the top Congress leadership at the time and showed pictures of Jawaharlal Nehru and Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The Congress had also taken a strong exception to the exclusion of India&rsquo;s first prime minister Nehru in the Karnataka government's newspaper advertisement on freedom fighters and termed the BJP action "pathetic".
"Friends, we have achieved a great deal in the last 75 years, but today's self-obsessed government is bent on trivialising the great sacrifices of our freedom fighters and the glorious achievements of the country, which can never be accepted," Gandhi said in her message on India's 76th Independence Day.
The Congress will strongly oppose any misrepresentation of historical facts and every attempt to put great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Abul Kalam Azad in the dock based on falsehood for "political gains", she said.
Sonia Gandhi said that in the last 75 years, India has left an indelible mark on the international arena in all fields including science, education, health and information technology through the hard work of its talented people.
"Under the leadership of its visionary leaders, while on one hand, India established a free, fair and transparent election system, on the other, it strengthened democracy and constitutional institutions," the Congress chief said.
Along with this, India has made its identity as a leading country that has always lived up to pluralism in language, religion and sect, she added.&nbsp;

"On this day in 1947, India officially became a democratic country -- ending nearly two hundred years of British rule. The lengthy struggle for freedom resulted in the birth of the largest democracy in the world. Heroic freedom fighters, such as Mahatma Gandhi, led the country's independence movement through civil disobedience and nonviolent protests," Google said on its official page.
The artist said the artwork depicts the "culture around kites -- from the craft of creating bright, beautiful kites to the cheerful experience of a community coming together".
"I have drawn kites depicting our national colours, a message of love and commemorating the 75 years of India's independence. They fly as high as skyscrapers, birds and I would like to believe, the sun," she was quoted as saying about the doodle on the official page of the internet search engine.
The vast expanse of the sky brightly speckled with soaring kites is a colourful symbol of the great heights that the country has achieved, Neethi said.
Earlier this month, a senior Google official, while launching the "India ki Udaan" project, curated as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, had said a "very special doodle will be unveiled this year on August 15".
The vibrant online project captures the milestones India has achieved in its journey of 75 years since independence, draws from rich archives and features artistic illustrations to tell the story of the country.
A physical representation of the new digital collection was also set up at the venue on the day of the launch, with a kite-shaped digital screen, pictures with augmented reality experience and other tech-driven experiences.

A special CBI court in Lucknow will deliver the much-awaited judgment in the 1992&nbsp;Babri&nbsp;Masjid demolition case in which BJP veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi are among the accused on Wednesday.&nbsp;CBI judge SK Yadav had on September 16 directed all the&nbsp;32 surviving&nbsp;accused to remain present in the court on the day of the judgment.&nbsp;The accused include former deputy prime minister Advani, former Union ministers Joshi and Uma Bharti, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh, besides Vinay Katiyar and Sadhvi&nbsp;Rithambara.&nbsp;With both Bharti and Singh convalescing in separate hospitals after coronavirus infection, it&nbsp;is highly unlikely&nbsp;that&nbsp;they would be present in the court at the time of pronouncement of order.&nbsp;Singh, during whose tenure as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh the disputed structure was demolished, was put on trial in September last year after his tenure as governor of Rajasthan came to an end.&nbsp;Champat&nbsp;Rai, the general secretary of the trust in charge of constructing the Ram temple, is also among those accused.&nbsp;

After having spent over 15 years in jail, one of the convicts reportedly approached the Supreme Court for premature release. The apex court asked the Gujarat government to decide the matter, and subsequently a committee was formed.
The panel recommended remission for the 11 convicts, and the state government accepted it. On 15 August, the 11 convicts walked out of the Godhra sub-jail.

The Sainik Group Centre in Ranikhet on Sunday identified the body as that of Chandrashekhar Harbola of the 19 Kumaon Regiment.
Harbola was part of a 20-member troop that was dispatched to the world's highest battlefield for 'Operation Meghdoot' to fight Pakistan in 1984.
During patrolling, they encountered an ice storm. While the bodies of 15 soldiers were recovered, those of the other five could not be found and Harbola was one among them.
His wife Shanti Devi, originally from Almora, currently lives in Saraswati Vihar Colony here. His body is expected to reach Haldwani in Uttarakhand late on Monday.
Haldwani sub-collector Manish Kumar and tehsildar Sanjay Kumar, who reached Harbola's house, said his last rites will be performed with full military honours.
Shanti Devi said at the time, they were married for nine years and that she was 28. Their elder daughter at the time was four and the younger one was one and a half years old.

Shanti Devi said Harbola had last arrived home in January 1984, during which he had promised to return soon. However, Shanti Devi said she was proud of her husband as he prioritised his service to the country over the promises made to the family.
According to information available, Harbola, a resident of Dwarahat in Almora, had enlisted in the army in 1975.
Reportedly, the body of another soldier was also found but his identity was yet to be ascertained.&nbsp;
