Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol huddled under an umbrella on a rainy Thursday in London to unveil their bronze likeness from an iconic &lsquo;Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge&rsquo; scene.
The sculpture of the duo joins Leicester Square&rsquo;s &lsquo;Scenes in the Square&rsquo; trail depicting memorable shots from some of the world&rsquo;s most famous films, with &lsquo;DDLJ&rsquo; marking a Bollywood first and the 30th anniversary of the 1995 box-office hit. It is in this popular London square that SRK as Raj and Kajol as Simran first cross paths unknowingly.
&ldquo;DDLJ was made with a pure heart. We wanted to tell a story about love, how it can bridge barriers and how the world would be a better place if it had a lot of love in it, and I think this is why 'DDLJ' has had a lasting impact for over 30 years now," said Khan.

He expressed his gratitude to the Heart of London Business Alliance, behind the cinematic trail at Leicester Square, for celebrating &lsquo;DDLJ&rsquo; and &ldquo;immortalising&rdquo; its lead stars.
&ldquo;Seeing &lsquo;DDLJ&rsquo; become the first Indian film to be honoured in the iconic Scenes in the Square trail is an emotional moment and has brought back so many memories. I feel immense pride knowing the film has been embraced around the world, and I want to share this moment with the entire cast and crew of &lsquo;DDLJ&rsquo;, my friend and director Aditya Chopra and the Yash Raj Films family. This is a moment I will never forget,&rdquo; added Khan.
Kajol, joined by her daughter Nysa and son Yug, posed with Khan in front of the statue as she braved the rain in a green saree.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s incredible to see &lsquo;Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge&rsquo; continue to receive so much love, even 30 years later. Watching the statue being unveiled in London felt like reliving a piece of our history - a story that has truly travelled across generations,&rdquo; said Kajol.
&ldquo;Seeing it find its rightful place in Leicester Square, a location of such enormous significance to &lsquo;DDLJ&rsquo;, makes this moment even more special. For the film to be honoured in this way in the UK &ndash; the first Indian film to receive such recognition &ndash; is something that will forever stay in the hearts and minds of all the &lsquo;DDLJ&rsquo; fans across the world,&rdquo; she said.
Their statue, captured in a dancing pose from the hit song &lsquo;Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna&rsquo;, joins the likes of Harry Potter, Bridget Jones, Mary Poppins, and Batman in what is dubbed as an ever-growing celebration of movie magic in a square packed with multiplex cinema screens.
&ldquo;When &lsquo;Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge&rsquo;, DDLJ, was released 30 years ago, the film became a defining moment for Indian cinema and changed the face of the industry, capturing the hearts of everyone who saw it all over the globe," said Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films.
&ldquo;We&rsquo;re thrilled to be the first Indian film to be represented in &lsquo;Scenes in the Square&rsquo;. It also marks 30 years of DDLJ, a film that has spread love and joy globally, and shows the cultural impact it has had in UK. Since its release in 1995, &lsquo;DDLJ&rsquo; has become the longest-running film in Hindi cinema history.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a cinematic phenomenon that has shaped generations, and London&rsquo;s first tribute to Indian cinema honours a story whose magic continues to captivate audiences worldwide.&rdquo;
It is a particularly special year for the film, with a musical based on the romance playing to packed houses at Manchester&rsquo;s Opera House earlier this year.
Aditya Chopra reprised his role as director of the English language stage production, &lsquo;Come Fall In Love &ndash; The DDLJ Musical&rsquo;, which revolved around the love story of Simran and Roger.
The script was a nod to the original as it followed Simran as a young British Indian woman who finds herself engaged to a family friend in India in an arranged marriage. However, the plot thickens when she falls in love with a British man named Roger.

June 27 heralds the release of Sonakshi Sinha's 'Nikita Roy' and Kajol's 'Maa', both focusing on strong female leads and highlighting a positive shift in Bollywood storytelling.

Sonakshi Sinha's 'Nikita Roy' and Kajol's 'Maa' release simultaneously, marking a step forward for women-led cinema in India.

Actor Sonakshi Sinha says it is a significant moment that two women led films, her "Nikita Roy" and Kajol-starrer "Maa", are releasing side by side.
&ldquo;Nikita Roy&rdquo;, a psychological thriller, is set to release in theatres across the country on June 27, alongside &ldquo;Maa&rdquo;, a mythological horror film.
"It&rsquo;s so cool that we&rsquo;ve two films led by women that are releasing side by side. That's like a step in the right direction, and, amazingly, it's happening. And there's room for everyone. Both are different films, and we wish them well. It's like a good, healthy competition (between the two films),&rdquo; Sonakshi told PTI in an interview.
"I have seen the trailer of &lsquo;Maa&rsquo; and I enjoyed it. Kajol is a phenomenal actress. She's somebody that I've looked up to and I admire. I'm looking forward to watching her film,&rdquo; the actor added.
Both films tap into the celebration of strong female narratives, a theme that Sonakshi is passionate about. For years, the actor said she has made a conscious effort to choose roles that empower women whether it is "Akira", "Dahaad" or "Heeramandi".
&ldquo;I've made it clear with the choices I've made for the last 8-9 years, that I want to portray strong female characters. It's something that gives me joy to be able to shoulder a film and play a title role, like 'Nikita Roy&rsquo;, &lsquo;Noor&rsquo;, and &lsquo;Akira&rsquo;. It's very empowering. It&rsquo;s a big thing to be able to do that. I want to be the hero of my films,&rdquo; Sinha said.
In &ldquo;Nikita Roy&rdquo;, Sinha plays the role of an investigator who debunks supernatural claims and exposes frauds and dismantles deceptive beliefs. But when she encounters a case that defies all beliefs, her convictions begin to falter.
Written by Pavan Kirpalani of "Phobia" fame, &ldquo;Nikita Roy&rdquo; explores the fragile boundary between perception and reality, unravelling themes of paranoia, buried truths, and the human mind&rsquo;s darker recesses.
It is helmed by Sonakshi&rsquo;s brother, Kussh S Sinha, who is making his debut as a director.
"It's a story that's been with me for a long time. It came to me about ten years ago, and when Kush came to me in 2021-2022 with the story, I said this is a testament to the fact that if a role is written for you, it always comes to you,&rdquo; the actor said.
With her brother Kussh at the helm, Sonakshi said it turned out to be a &ldquo;smooth&rdquo; collaborative process.
&ldquo;I thought that as siblings, we would have our squabbles on set, but that was not the case. On set, I was the actor, he was the director. He's clear in his head in terms of what and how he wants to portray a scene,&rdquo; she said.
Sonakshi said she is in a &ldquo;great&rdquo; space professionally as she gears up for a slew of exciting projects, including her Telugu film debut, &ldquo;Jathadhara&rdquo;, where she stars alongside Sudheer Babu and the second season of Sanjay Leela Bhansali&rsquo;s &ldquo;Heeramandi&rdquo;.
&ldquo;It's not about the language, it&rsquo;s about the story and role,&rdquo; she said, adding, &ldquo;the script of &lsquo;Heeramandi&rsquo; is being written and she is waiting to see how the world unfolds".
When asked about not being part of the sequel to her 2012 film, &ldquo;Son of Sardaar&rdquo;, and why female actors are being replaced in franchise movies, Sinha said she isn&rsquo;t &ldquo;upset&rdquo; about it and believes the makers have a reason to not cast her.
&ldquo;I haven't had a conversation with anyone (makers of &lsquo;Son of Sardaar&rsquo;). But I'm sure they have a good reason (to not cast me), maybe the story or the character is not the same in the sequel. If they had replaced my character, then I would be worried. But I don't think that's the case. I'm not too upset about it. I wish them all the very best,&rdquo; she said.
&ldquo;Nikita Roy&rdquo; also stars Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal and Suhail Nayyar in pivotal roles.
The film is produced by Nickky Bhagnani and Viicky Bhagnani. Anand Mehta, Prakash Nand Bijlani, Shakti Bhatnagar, Mehnaaz Shaikh, and Prem Raj Joshi serve as co-producers.

Kajol's latest project is the upcoming film Do Patti, which marks Kriti Sanon's debut as a producer and Shaheer Sheikh&rsquo;s entry into Bollywood. In this film, Kajol plays a cop for the first time. Netflix describes Do Patti as a thrilling investigation involving a no-nonsense cop, a dark rivalry between twin sisters, and the complicated man they both love.
Do Patti will premiere on Netflix on October 25. Kajol also has other exciting projects in the pipeline, including Sarzameen with Ibrahim Ali Khan and Maharagni &ndash; Queen of Queens, where she stars alongside Prabhu Deva and Naseeruddin Shah.

Kajol also recalled that she almost did a film with acclaimed director Mani Ratnam, but that didn't materialise as she had committed her dates to filmmaker Karan Johar for &lsquo;Kuch Kuch Hota Hai&rsquo; (1998).
Kajol said, &lsquo;I was supposed to shoot for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and at that time, I got an offer from Mani Ratnam to do a film for him. First of all, I didn't believe I got an offer from Mr Ratnam. But things didn't work out because I had committed those dates to Karan for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. A lot of people told me, 'You should have done Mani sir's film'. At that time, I felt that my commitment was more important and it worked in my favour.&rsquo;

Speaking about the series, Kajol told Variety, &lsquo;The complexities are what defines a character to me and the layers surrounding Noyonika are what spoke to me when this role first came over.
Noyonika felt personal, I instantly felt protective about her and that reaffirmed my faith in choosing &lsquo;The Trial &ndash; Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka&rsquo; on Disney+ Hotstar to be my first step into the long format. Suparn Varma has built a world where vulnerability of characters meet the cruel situations posed by life. The audience will feel for and feel one with Noyonika as she makes difficult choices, because I did.&rsquo;
