Jofra Archer has been struggling with injuries since the 3rd of January 2020-- when the right-arm fast bowler was first ruled out of the 2nd England Test against South Africa as his elbow issue had flared up. &nbsp;
From 3rd January 2020 to 9th May 2023, when he was again ruled out of the Indian Premier League, the 27-year-old had undergone 5 operations.&nbsp;
The pacer missed the entire 2021 IPL season due to his injury, in early 2022 too, no one was sure about Archer's return to IPL. But during the IPL mega auction that took place in February 2022, the 5-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians broke the bank, splurging as much as 8 crores knowing full well that Archer won't feature for them in IPL 2022. And on May 19, 2022, ECB announced Archer suffered a stress fracture in his back and was ruled out for the entire summer. Despite all this, the owners of Mumbai Indians- who also own a team in SA20, the South African T20 league, showed faith in the Brabarados-born bowler. They bought the pacer for MI Cape Town as a wildcard player.&nbsp;
Cut to the current edition, IPL 2023, there was an eagerness to see Archer return.
That--- mostly because Archer began playing competitive cricket in January. He reminded the world of his brilliant wicket-taking abilities when he picked up 3 wickets for 27 runs in his first game for MI Cape Town against Paarl Royals. He finished the SA20 season with 10 wickets in 6 matches.&nbsp;
While the Indian crowd was expecting fireworks and the franchise was also looking forward to a great out-turn on their hefty investment, none happened!

As of May 9, 2023, Mumbai had played 10 IPL matches-- and Archer only 5. Right after playing Mumbai's opening game against RCB, the Englishman briefly travelled to Belgium to visit a specialist for his right elbow discomfort--- this forced him to miss 4 matches.&nbsp;
His performance too was underwhelming. The England pacer picked just 2 wickets at an economy of 9.50.&nbsp;
While he has missed 2 seasons entirely, he failed to make an impact on his return in 2023 and was eventually ruled out because of his incessant injury woes...&nbsp;
When buying him in 2022, MI couldn't predict the future, their faith in him made them retain him in 2023, but after being marked 'ruled out' yet again will MI be willing enough to include Archer in their squad next year or is it the end of Archer's journey with Mumbai?
Or could it be the end of his IPL journey altogether? Only time will tell.

Pacer Jofra Archer, who has only featured in 2 games for the Mumbai Indians this season, flew to Belgium earlier this month to meet an elbow specialist.

According to a report in British newspaper Daily Telegraph, "Jofra Archer travelled to Belgium for minor surgery on the troublesome right elbow during a short recent spell on the sidelines at the Indian Premier League."
Archer's troublesome elbow kept him out of action for nearly 2 years and the player who was picked by the Mumbai Indians for 8 crore rupees, has only played 2 games this season.
An ESPNCricinfo story also confirmed that Archer did indeed visit his specialist in Belgium, quoting the ECB as the source.
The 28-year-old though was unhappy with the newspaper article and hit out at the reporter on his Twitter, stating the story was published without proper facts and his consent.

Though Mumbai Indians started to live without the services of their speedster Jofra Archer by winning three games in a row, the English pacer has been trying to put himself in the best position in order to strengthen MI's bowling line-up.

Having won three games in a row, Mumbai Indians are doing well even without the services of their speedster Jofra Archer. And the English pacer himself isn't quite sure about his return to the side.
While speaking to cricket website ESPNcricinfo, Archer said that he is focused on 'feeling good' at the moment.&nbsp;
"To be honest, I still want to bowl fast and stuff - but when you feel good, you bowl good. I just want to focus on feeling good at the minute, " Archer added.&nbsp;

The Englishman sounded sceptical about his return to cricket and stated: "There are going to be moments where it feels much more serious than it actually is. I don't know which game will be the next game, but I'm just trying to put myself in the best position possible (to play)."
Archer played MI's opening match against RCB and has since been on the bench due to a sore right elbow.

Meanwhile, Reece Topley, who injured himself right before England's opening T20 World Cup game, is also back. Ben Duckett &amp; Harry Brook have been rewarded for their Test performances, earning themselves a place in the squad as well.

Mumbai Indians had put faith in Archer as they choose not to release him ahead of IPL 2023 mini-auction on December 23.

However, it is still not clear whether England and Wales Cricket Board will allow their premier pacer to play IPL next year as he is returning to fitness after a long injury layoff.

England and Sussex seamer Jofra Archer has been ruled out for the entire season after being diagnosed with a stress fracture to the lower back. Archer hadn't played for England for more than a year after suffering an elbow injury last year and had hoped to make his comeback for Sussex vs Glamorgan on May 26 in the T20 Blast.
ECB issued a statement on Thursday, "No timeframe has been set for his return. A management plan will be determined following further specialist opinion over the coming days."
