According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk&rsquo;s net worth now stands at 197.7 billion dollars, allowing Jeff Bezos, Amazon's founder, to reclaim the top position with a fortune of 200.3 billion dollars.
This marks Bezos' first return to the top of Bloomberg's ranking since 2021 and the wealth gap between the two tech leaders has notably shrunk. Amazon's shares have more than doubled since late 2022, approaching record highs, while Tesla's stock has fallen by approximately 50% from its 2021 peak.
In May 2023, Elon Musk reclaimed the title of the world's wealthiest individual, surpassing LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault. Arnault, overseeing renowned brands like Louis Vuitton and Dior, had enjoyed the top position thanks to a surge in luxury goods sales, propelling LVMH's stock. This series of sales are part of a trading plan initiated by the company in November. The company had also earlier announced that Bezos was planning to offload up to 50 million shares of Amazon through the year. Bezos' holding in Amazon is now down to 952.26 million shares from 976.25 million shares earlier.
Here's why bezos is selling amazon shares
The timing of also coincides with Bezos' announcement of relocating to Miami from Seattle. This move to Florida likely saves Bezos approximately $430 million in taxes, as Washington state has recently implemented a 7 per cent levy on capital gains, while Florida has no such tax.
Bezos's fortune is estimated by Forbes at $195.5 billion, making him the third richest man on the planet, behind Frenchman Bernard Arnault, CEO of the LVMH group and Elon Musk, the boss at Tesla, Twitter and SpaceX.
Amazon most recently released financial results February 1, which far exceeded expectations.
The tech behemoth achieved a sales turnover of $170 billion and a net profit of $10.6 billion, driven by faster deliveries and a particularly successful holiday season.

Musk lost nearly $15.5 million i.e. Rs 1.26 lakh crore after his automotive company, Tesla's, shares recorded a steep decline of 8.6 per cent, the lowest single-day decline in four months. News agency Reuters reported that the fall in Tesla's shares depleted $71 billion in the market value of the carmaker.
On the other hand, the Index report stated that Gautam Adani's entities, including Adani Power, Adani Wilmar, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, Adani Green and Adani Total Gas, crashed on the stock market. The rapid fall in share prices led to an enormous loss for the business tycoon. The 60-year-old businessman lost nearly $9.67 billion i.e. Rs 78,913 crore.
It may be noted that, despite these major losses, Musk continues to be the richest man in the world. At present, Adani is the fourth wealthiest person in the world after Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Bernard Arnault, the Louis Vuitton chairman.

According to reports by Bloomberg, Jeff Bezos suffered the most as he saw $9.8 billion erased from his wealth. Elon Musk, also taking second place on the list lost $8.4 billion. 
The fortunes of Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Page, Sergey Brin and Steve Ballmer all declined by more than $4 billion, while Warren Buffett and Bill Gates lost $3.4 billion and $2.8 billion, respectively. 
The sharp fall in the US indices comes in the backdrop that it gives away any hope of mild rate hike by the US Federal Reserve in its meeting later this month.   
In August, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 0.1 percent and rose 8.3 percent over the last 12 months. From 8.5% in July, the inflation figures, however, eased on a month-on-month basis.  
The disappointing data means traders are bracing for the Federal Reserve to ultimately raise interest rates even higher than expected to combat inflation, with all the risks for the economy that entails.

The New Shepard suborbital rockets have been grounded pending an investigation, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said, which is standard procedure.
"The capsule landed safely and the booster impacted within the designated hazard area. No injuries or public property damage have been reported," the FAA added.
It was the 23rd mission for the New Shepard rocket program, named after the first American in space, and the first to end in failure.

She is the first passenger sponsored by the nonprofit Space for Humanity and is one of the youngest women to fly to space.
Another crew member on the flight was civil production engineer Victor Correa Hespanha.
He was the second Brazilian to fly to space.
The New Shepard capsule and its six passengers touched down under parachutes into a cloud of dust in the Texas desert after the short flight that reached a peak of 347,538 feet (106 kilometers) above ground level.
The flight comes as Blue Origin competes with Elon Musk's SpaceX and Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic for space tourism dollars and efforts aimed at increasing diversity in space travel, which long has been dominated by white men.
