<p>Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retained their places in the A+ category, which comes with a Rs 7 crore annual retainership. Along with them, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah remain in this prestigious category, continuing their dominance in India&rsquo;s elite cricket roster.</p>

<p>One of the biggest developments in the new list is the return of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, who were dropped last year. Iyer, who was excluded due to his perceived neglect of domestic cricket in favor of IPL, makes a comeback in the B category with a Rs three crore retainer.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Kishan, who faced similar exclusion, returns to the C category with an annual remuneration of Rs one crore.</p>
<p>The BCCI has also made changes to Category A, with Rishabh Pant moving back into the category after his demotion last season due to recovery from a serious accident. He replaces Ravichandran Ashwin, who retired earlier this year.&nbsp;</p>

During IPL 2023, Akash Madhwal, Nehal Wadhera and Cameron Green were also reprimanded for indiscipline and they were made to wear hilarious jumpsuits. After getting out for a duck against the Gujarat Titans, the southpaw looked good against the Sunrisers Hyderabad but his innings was cut short on 34. <p>Ishan Kishan, who was recently dropped from BCCI's central contract list, had secretary Jay Shah chatting with him on Sunday evening after Mumbai Indians' IPL game, a gesture which could be viewed as silver lining for the maverick wicketkeeper-batter.</p>
<p>The 25-year-old from Jharkhand, who returned to India in the middle of the South Africa tour last year, citing travel fatigue, has been reluctant to play first class cricket.</p>
<p>He didn't feature in a single Ranji Trophy game this season despite being sent repeated feelers by the Indian team management.</p>
<p>Instead, he was seen practising with his MI skipper Hardik Pandya in Baroda, gearing up for the IPL. He even ignored instructions to play Jharkhand's last Ranji Trophy game against Rajasthan, leading to the loss of contract.</p>
<p>While he recently made a comeback for RBI in the DY Patil T20 Cup, his return to top-flight cricket started on an indifferent note as he was dismissed for a duck against Gujarat Titans.</p>
<p>However, Shah was seen having a light-hearted chat with Kishan and national captain Rohit Sharma. While the contents of the discussion aren't known as of now the all-powerful secretary warming up to a cricketer, who had fallen out of favour, certainly augurs well for the latter.</p>
<p>Kishan's chances of a comeback in the T20 World Cup have dwindled in the past few months with Rishabh Pant back in contention and KL Rahul also making his intentions clear by picking up the big gloves.</p>

<p>MI batting coach Kieron Pollard also threw his weight behind the embattled opener and said he will come good in the coming matches as he is an "experienced" player within the setup.</p>
<p>"For him, again, he did not score tonight so, we can look at all sorts of different things, but it's a long tournament, he is an experienced guy within our setup and we expect big things from Ishan." <br><br>"He is in a good space, he has been practising well and has been doing fairly decently, so hopefully within the next couple of games, you can see great performances from him and all of you will continue to laud his brains when he does that," Pollard said.&nbsp;</p>

Despite this setback, the source emphasized Iyer's significant contributions during last year's ODI World Cup and suggested that missing a few domestic games wouldn't be a justifiable reason for losing his contract.</p>

<p>It has been learnt that BCCI brass has already instructed Kishan to play Jharkhand's last group league game against Rajasthan in Jamshedpur, starting February 16.</p>
<p>The manner in which Kishan had skipped match after match after returning midway from South Africa tour citing "travel fatigue" hasn't exactly gone down well with men who matter in the Indian cricket establishment.</p>
<p>More so after it was found that he is training in Baroda with his new MI skipper Hardik Pandya while his state team is languishing near bottom of group A table.</p>
<p>There is a general consensus that a strict policy need to be adhered to so that a group of young players don't make "playing IPL to IPL" a habit.</p>
<p>"The decision makers in BCCI are well aware that some players don't want to play any red ball cricket. <p>"To rein in such players, board in all likelihood will make it mandatory to play 3-4 Ranji Trophy games, failing which, they can't play IPL or even appear in IPL auction if released by their franchise.</p>
<p>"The state units feel unless the diktat comes from top of BCCI, some of the young stars will treat Ranji Trophy with disdain." It is understood that even Indian team's think-tank are pissed off with a certain section of players, who are always reluctant to play Ranji Trophy even when they are fit.</p>
<p>"We can understand Hardik Pandya's case as his body can't take the rigours of red ball cricket. He can't withstand the workload of Test cricket and India needs him fit for ICC events.</p>
<p>"But some of the other youngsters, whenever you call them, they will cite that they are currently doing physio work. There needs to be a stop somewhere," the official said.</p>
<p>It will be interesting to find out if Kishan finally leaves his "new training base" in Baroda and is back in Jamshedpur for Jharkhand's final game of the tournament.</p>
<p>Asked if Kishan would find himself out of BCCI retainership (he has a grade C annual contract of Rs 1 crore), the official said: "No discussions have taken place as of now regarding central contracts." No workload related instruction from BCCI to IPL team.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Ishan Kishan came out to bat when India's top order had faltered miserably against the fear-instilling Pakistan pace, not many were expecting that he would sail India's ship through the troubled waters successfully.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><br>Scoring a courageous knock of 82 in the 138-run stand with Hardik Pandya, at No. 5 and helping India post a respectable 266, Kishan turned out to be the silver lining.&nbsp;<br><br>Kishan, who essentially got the chance due to KL Rahul's absence has just made it a little difficult for the selection committee to ignore him with his ability to produce consistent results.&nbsp;<br><br>In Kishan, Rohit Sharma gets a wicket-keeper batter, opener, middle-over hitter and the bankable left-handed option in the top 6. Though KL Rahul owns the no. 5 position with an average of 53 and a strike rate of almost 100, Ishan Kishan offers Rohit Sharma the flexibility he dreams of in a team.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><br>In ODIs, the 25-year-old has so far amassed 776 runs in 18 matches which includes the fastest double hundred he scored against Bangladesh last year. <br><br>Why he is the answer to Rohit Sharma's flexibility conundrum? ...because the Jharkhand-based cricketer has performed at almost every spot he has played.&nbsp;<br><br>At no. 1, Kishan has 187 runs (4 games), no. 2 238(2 games), playing at no. 3 he has so far amassed 163 (4 games), at no. 4 106 (6 matches) and in his first outing as a no. 5 he got 82&nbsp; (1 match).&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><br>Kishan is the solution to a lot of problems of Team India. With his string of performances he might have fixed his place in the squad but where will the team management play him in the XI would be a big question.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While opening in the recent series vs West Indies, Kishan had performed brilliantly amassing a total of 184 runs from three matches at an average of 61.33.</p>

<p>Ishan Kishan is set to play the wicketkeeper-batter role in the absence of K L Rahul but question remains over the left-hander&rsquo;s batting slot going into the Asia Cup opener against Pakistan on September 2.</p>
<p>The temptation will be to hand Kishan the opening position with Rahul not available for the first two games of the continental event. He had opened the innings in India&rsquo;s last ODI series against the West Indies along with Shubman Gill, and made a good impression.</p>
<p>Kishan made 184 runs in that series from three matches, averaging 61.33 and his scores read &ndash; 52, 55 and 77.</p>
<p>But it was a rather straightforward move as Rohit Sharma was given a rest during the ODIs against the West Indies. Now that Rohit has returned to the side and will occupy one opening slot, the Indian think-tank will have to put in a thought as to where to accommodate Kishan.</p>
<p>Opening is also Kishan&rsquo;s most successful slot in the batting order as he had made double hundred there against Bangladesh last year.</p>
<p>Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri too had favoured Kishan opening saying his uninhibited striking will give India an early upper hand over their opponents.</p>
<p>If he opens, then Gill will have to come down to No. 3 and Virat Kohli will have to take the No. 4 slot. It also means that the returning Shreyas Iyer will have to move down to No.5.</p>
<p>If it happens that way then Hardik Pandya will be coming in at No.6 and there will be no place for Suryakumar Yadav in the side.</p>
<p>Despite his modest record, India were dabbling with the option of Suryakumar in the ODIs because of his prowess at the backend of the innings.</p>
<p>If India indeed want to accommodate Suryakumar in the 11 then they might just have to put a temporary hold on Shreyas' comeback.</p>
<p>The other option India can explore to give Kishan a place at No. 3 &ndash; Rohit and Gill as openers &ndash; with Kohli at No. 4 and Shreyas at No. 5.</p>
<p>The 25-year-old from Jharkhand can also be fitted in the middle-order as he has a reasonable record at No. 4, scoring two fifties in four innings. They can mull the southpaw at number five too as it gives a certain stability at the top but the only peril is that Kishan has not batted in that position in his 17-match ODI career.</p>
<p>Sanju Samson is here as the travelling reserve keeping in mind the injury of Rahul, and he is not a part of the 17-member India squad.</p>
<p>India will not be able to use his services as a wicketkeeper batsman because one of the players, Rahul in this case, has to be ruled out of the Asia Cup for Samson to come into the equation.</p>
