Israeli strikes on Friday targeted a Syrian army position in the country's south, Syria's government and a monitor said, as US media reported Israel had hits its arch-rival Iran.
In a statement, Syria's defence ministry said "the Israeli enemy carried out an attack using missiles... targeting our air defence sites in the southern region" and causing material damage.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said Israel targeted an army radar position in the southern province of Daraa that had detected the entry of Israeli planes into Syria's airspace.
Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Britain-based Observatory, said the strikes took place "at a time when the Israeli air force was flying intensively over the Daraa region" without Syrian air defences taking any action.
The Israeli military has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria since the outbreak of a civil war in its northern neighbour in 2011, targeting the army and Iran-backed fighters.
But the strikes have increased since Israel's war with Iran-backed Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip began on October 7.
Rayan Maarouf, who runs the Suwayda24 anti-government new website, had earlier told AFP there had been strikes on a Syrian army radar position in Sweida province, without specifying their origin.
The latest strikes came as explosions were reported early on Friday in central Iran, with senior US officials reporting an Israeli attack.
Iran's Fars news agency reported three explosions near a military base in the province of Isfahan. The official news agency IRNA said there was "no major damage".
Israel warned it would hit back after Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles against Israel overnight on April 13 in an unprecedented attack, which was retaliation for a deadly strike on its Damascus consulate.

The United States and the United Kingdom announced widespread sanctions against Iran's military drone program on Thursday in response to its weekend attack against Israel.
Washington is targeting "16 individuals and two entities enabling Iran's UAV production, including engine types that power Iran&rsquo;s Shahed variant UAVs, which were used in the April 13 attack," the Treasury Department said in a statement, referring to Iran's unmanned aerial vehicle program.
The United Kingdom is also imposing sanctions "targeting several Iranian military organizations, individuals and entities involved in Iran&rsquo;s UAV and ballistic missile industries," the Treasury Department said.
Tehran launched its first ever direct military attack on Israel late Saturday in retaliation for an April 1 air strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus -- widely blamed on Israel -- that killed seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including two generals.
The large-scale attack involved more than 300 drones and missiles, most of which were shot down by Israel and its allies including the US and the UK, causing little damage.
In response to the attacks, Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said Israel reserves the right to protect itself.
"Today, in coordination with the United Kingdom and in consultation with partners and allies, we are taking swift and decisive action to respond to Iran's unprecedented attack on Israel," US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement.
"We're using Treasury's economic tools to degrade and disrupt key aspects of Iran's malign activity, including its UAV program and the revenue the regime generates to support its terrorism," she continued.
"We will continue to deploy our sanctions authority to counter Iran with further actions in the days and weeks ahead," she added.
Alongside its sanctions against Iran's UAV program, the US is also sanctioning five companies providing parts for Iran's steel industry.
"Iran's metals sector generates the equivalent of several billion dollars in revenue annually, with the majority coming from steel exports," the Treasury Department said, adding it had also sanctioned an automaker involved in providing "material support" to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

When Iran attacked Israel at the weekend, Jordan intercepted multiple missiles and drones, but King Abdullah II has stressed his country must not become "the theatre of a regional war".
If the Gaza war raging since October 7 has created tough challenges for Jordan, it now faces the additional threat of being literally stuck in the middle of a widening Israel-Iran conflict.
Jordan, about half of whose population is of Palestinian origin, is also a close US ally and signed a peace treaty with neighbouring Israel 30 years ago.
Amid the half-year-old Gaza war, Jordan's king has repeatedly voiced strong criticism of Israel and directed his military to fly daily food airdrops to help besieged Palestinians.
A strong supporter of the Palestinian cause, the monarch has described Jordan's relationship with Israel as a "cold peace".
Then, last weekend, Jordan was among a group of nations, also including the United States, Britain and France, that helped Israel shoot down missiles, rockets and attack drones launched by Iran and its allies at Israel.
Jordan stressed its aim was to safeguard its own sovereignty rather than defend Israel.
The government said its military "will confront anything that would expose the security and safety of the nation... to any danger or transgression by any party".
But this did not spare it from Iran's anger.
Iran -- which labelled its attack an act of self-defence after a deadly Israeli strike on its Syria consulate -- warned Jordan it could be "the next target", a military source was reported as saying by Iran's Fars news agency.
Jordan's foreign ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador and demanded that Tehran stop "questioning" its positions.
Ayman Safadi, head of Jordanian diplomacy, insisted that "if the danger had come from Israel, Jordan would have taken the same measures".

King Abdullah, in a phone call with US President Joe Biden on Sunday, called for de-escalation and stressed that Jordan "will not be the theatre of a regional war".
In anticipation of a possible Israeli response, Jordan's army said on Tuesday it was increasing air sorties "to prevent any airspace infringement and defend the kingdom's skies".
Nimrod Goren, senior fellow at the Middle East Institute, said Jordan during the Iranian attack had "played a role that I think was larger than many expected it to play".
"It definitely shows Jordan's positioning within the US-related camp in the region, which is something that is not new, but it became very clear."
Jordan signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994, only the second Arab country to do so after Egypt, although several others have since also established diplomatic ties.
Yet, as the Gaza war has raged, Jordan has also seen mass demonstrations in support of Palestinians since the Israel-Hamas war broke out on October 7.
Located in a volatile region, Jordan has long established strict security policies.
The mostly Sunni Muslim kingdom borders Iraq and Syria, where the regional Shiite power Iran wields significant influence.
Goren said Iran could seek "to meddle in Jordan and change the dynamics there in its favour, like it did in other countries".
Because the Iranian attack happened "above their territory", he said, it constituted a direct threat to "their defence (and) their stability".
"That's a major concern for Jordan."
Jordan's former information minister, Samih al-Maaytah, said "Jordan did not defend Israel but rather defended its sovereignty and the security of its territory".
"Jordan has nothing to do with the struggle for influence between the Persian project and the Zionist project," he told AFP.
"It does not want to get involved in a regional conflict."

Israel's military chief said Monday that his country will respond to Iran's weekend attack, but he did not elaborate on when and how as world leaders urged against retaliation, trying to avoid a spiral of violence in the Middle East.
The Iranian attack on Saturday came in response to a suspected Israeli strike two weeks earlier on an Iranian consular building in the Syrian capital of Damascus that killed two Iranian generals. It marked the first time Iran has launched a direct military assault on Israel despite decades of enmity dating back to the country's 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Iran launched hundreds of drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles at Israel in the attack. The Israeli military said that 99 per cent of the drones and missiles were intercepted, by Israel's own air defences and warplanes and in coordination with a U.S.-led coalition of partners.
Israeli military chief Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi said Monday that Israel is considering its next steps but that the Iranian strike &ldquo;will be met with a response.&rdquo; Halevi gave no details. The army's spokesman, Rear Adm. Much of that cooperation has been under the umbrella of the U.S. Central Command, which oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East. Centcom works closely with militaries across the region, including Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries.
The U.S., Britain and Jordan &mdash; a key American ally in the region &mdash; have all said their air forces helped intercept the Iranian missiles and drones. Halevi said France and &ldquo;other partners&rdquo; were involved, and he noted that &ldquo;Iran's attack has created new opportunities for cooperation in the Middle East.&rdquo; The Iranian weapons also flew through Saudi skies, according to a map released by the Israeli military. Israel says most of the interceptions took place outside of Israeli airspace, indicating at least tacit cooperation with the Saudis.
A unilateral Israeli strike could strain these behind-the-scenes contacts, particularly with countries like Saudi Arabia that do not have official diplomatic relations with Israel. It also could risk opening a new front with Iran at a time when Israel is bogged down in a six-month war inside Gaza against Hamas militants.
Israel and Iran have been on a collision course throughout the Gaza war. The war erupted after Hamas and Islamic Jihad, two militant groups backed by Iran, carried out a devastating cross-border attack on Oct. 7 that killed 1,200 people in Israel and kidnapped 250 others.
Israel's offensive in Gaza has killed over 33,700 Palestinians, according to local health officials, and caused widespread devastation.
Throughout the war, Israel has traded fire across its northern border with Lebanon's Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group, while Iranian-backed militias in Iraq and Yemen have also attacked Israel. The friction has kept up fears of a potentially destructive all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah, or a broader direct confrontation between Israel and Iran.
World leaders pressed Israel not to strike Iran.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said &ldquo;all sides must show restraint&rdquo; to avoid a rising spiral of violence in the Middle East. French President Emmanuel Macron said Paris will try to &ldquo;convince Israel that we must not respond by escalating.&rdquo; In Washington, U.S. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby declined to say Monday whether the U.S. had been or expects to be briefed on any Israeli response plans. &ldquo;We will let the Israelis speak to that,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;We are not involved in their decision-making process about a potential response,&rdquo; Kirby said.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the U.S. doesn't seek escalation but said it would continue to support Israel's security. He pledged to step up the diplomatic efforts against Iran.
&ldquo;Strength and wisdom need to be different sides of the same coin,&rdquo; he said.

According to CNN, most of the Iranian munitions were launched from inside of Iran&rsquo;s territory during a five-hour attack and were intercepted before they got to Israel, more than 1,770 kilometers from their launch points.
"Together we thwarted Iran's attack... This was the first time that such a coalition worked together against the threat of Iran and its proxies in the Middle East," said military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari in a televised statement.
"Iran launched over 350 threats, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, rockets and suicide drones towards Israel and also other countries in the region could have got that threat on the way."
In total, around 170 drones, more than 30 cruise missiles, and more than 120 ballistic missiles were launched at Israel by Iran overnight Saturday, the military said.
US officials said more than 70 drones and three ballistic missiles were intercepted by US Navy ships and military aircraft.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also confirmed that the UK&rsquo;s Royal Air Force participated in taking down drones.
An Israeli military spokesperson also said France was involved in blocking the Iranian attacks.
At one point, at least 100 ballistic missiles from Iran were in the air simultaneously with just minutes of flight time to Israel, the officials said, according to PTI news agency.
Biden and senior official monitored the firings and interception attempts in real time in the White House Situation Room. The officials said there was &ldquo;relief&rdquo; in the room once they saw that the missile defence efforts had succeeded.
A senior US military official said American aircraft shot down more than 70 drones and cruise missiles, while US destroyers in the eastern Mediterranean Sea downed between four and six ballistic missiles, and an American Patriot missile battery in Iraq shot down one more.
&ldquo;At my direction, to support the defence of Israel, the US military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week,&rdquo; Biden said in a statement late Saturday.
&ldquo;Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our servicemembers, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles.&rdquo;
Biden, in a Saturday evening call with Netanyahu, urged that Israel claim victory for its defence prowess as the president aimed to persuade America's closest Middle East ally not to undertake a larger retaliatory strike against Iran, the officials said.
&ldquo;I told him that Israel demonstrated a remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks &mdash; sending a clear message to its foes that they cannot effectively threaten the security of Israel,&rdquo; Biden said in his statement after the call.

Iran's state-run IRNA said a special forces unit of the Guard's navy carried out the attack on the vessel, which other media in the country widely identified as the Portuguese-flagged MSC Aries, a container ship associated with London-based Zodiac Maritime.
Zodiac Maritime is part of Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer's Zodiac Group. Zodiac declined to comment and referred questions to MSC, which did not immediately respond.
Earlier, a Middle East defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters, shared a video of the attack with The Associated Press. In it, the Iranian commandos are seen rappelling down onto a stack of containers sitting on the deck of the vessel.
A crew member on the ship can be heard saying: &ldquo;Don't come out.&rdquo; He then tells his colleagues to go to the ship's bridge as more commandos come down on the deck. One commando can be seen kneeling above the others to provide them potential cover fire.
The video corresponded with known details of the MSC Aries. The helicopter used also appeared to be a Soviet-era Mil Mi-17 helicopter, which both the Guard and the Iranian-backed Houthis of Yemen have used in the past to conduct commando raids on ships.
The British military's United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations described the vessel as being &ldquo;seized by regional authorities&rdquo; in the Gulf of Oman off the Emirati port city of Fujairah, without elaborating.
The MSC Aries had been last located off Dubai heading toward the Strait of Hormuz on Friday. The ship had turned off its tracking data, which has been common for Israeli-affiliated ships moving through the region.
Iran since 2019 has engaged in a series of ship seizures and attacks on vessels have been attributed to it amid ongoing tensions with the West over its rapidly advancing nuclear program.
In previous seizures, Iran has offered initial explanations about their operations to make it seem like the attacks had nothing to do with the wider geopolitical tensions &mdash; though later acknowledging as much. In Saturday's attack, however, Iran telling offered no explanation for the seizure other than to say the MSC Aries had links to Israel.
For days, Iranian officials up to and including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have been threatening to &ldquo;slap&rdquo; Israel for the Syria strike. Western governments have issued warnings to their citizens in the region to be prepared for attacks.
However, Iran in the past largely has avoided directly attacking Israel, despite it carrying out the targeted killing of nuclear scientists and multiple sabotage campaigns against Iran's atomic sites. Iran has however targeted Israeli or Jewish-linked sites through proxy forces over the decades.
Earlier this week, Guard Gen. Ali Reza Tangsiri, who oversees its naval forces, criticized the presence of Israelis in the region and in the United Arab Emirates. The UAE reached a diplomatic recognition deal with Israel in 2020, something that long has enraged Tehran.
&ldquo;We know that bringing Zionists in this point is not merely for economic work," Tangsiri reportedly said. "Now, they are carrying out security and military jobs, indeed. This is a threat, and this should not happen.&rdquo; The U.S., Israel's main backer, has stood by the country despite growing concerns over Israel's war on Gaza killing more than 33,600 Palestinians and wounding over 76,200 more. Israel's war began after Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel that killed 1,200 people and saw some 250 others taken hostage.
