The upcoming auction of Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights on June 12 could be as high as four times the previous one.
Brokerage firm Elara Securities said the broadcasting rights of the IPL for the next five years (2023-28) to soar three-to-four times to Rs 50,000 - 60,000 crore, highlighting the trailblazing growth of the cash-rich domestic T20 cricket tournament.
There are big names who are contesting for IPL media rights this time. According to a Bloomberg report, Amazon's Primevideo, Disney plus Hotstar, Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries, Zee Entertainment-Sony India, and Dream11 are among those in the race to acquire the media rights to the fourth biggest professional sports league in the world by revenues.

The brokerage firm also expects digital rights for broadcasting IPL matches to be auctioned at a premium of 100 percent from the current base. It also values IPL teams at 14-to-15.5 times market cap-to-sales in the light of its expectation of a blockbuster media rights auction. Media rights account for 70 percent of IPL teams’ revenues.
IPL's 15th edition has recently been concluded, with debutants Gujarat Titans taking home the trophy in a tournament that expanded to 10 teams. Lucknow Super Giants were the second team to make their debut this year.

The lucrative mega auctions that were held this month were a fascinating affair as 204 players went under the hammer for 2 days and teh 10 Franchisees spent Rs 550 crore to make the best-looking teams.The 36-year-old openly described the unpleasant feeling of being put on auction in an interview with news9live. He called it an examination which one had written long ago, and you are just awaiting the result. You feel like a cattle, to be honest', he added. Calling it 'not so pleasing', Uthappa further said having an opinion about performance is one thing and having an opinion on how much you got sold for is quite something else.Uthappa also spoke about the pressure the players feel after going unsold at the mega auctions. Calling it haphazard and suggesting teh draft system for picking players, Uthappa said, 'suddenly your value as a cricketer becomes how much someone is willing to spend on you'

While he is currently under rehabilitation, he will most likely miss this year's IPL edition. Saying that Archer was an integral part of the team, Badale pointed out that if he would have tried to secure Archer for 9 cr. He further said that the priority was to build a strong Indian core and get on board a world-class XI, which he felt his franchise has successfully done. Royals spent 89.05 crores to secure 24 players during the 2 day IPL mega auctions.
