<p>Sale of the new series of iPhones started on Friday, with excited customers queuing up outside the country's first Apple Store since early hours and even indulging in a scuffle before its opening.</p>
<p>Like with the launch of any new model, excited customers started queuing up outside the store at the Jio World Drive mall in the Bandra Kurla Complex business district in the wee hours.</p>
<p>A little before 6 am, a scuffle broke out among some of the customers who had queued up, prompting the security personnel to intervene.</p>
<p>Visuals show a group of Apple customers exchanging blows and being taken away by both private and government security personnel. The police was also forced to resort to mild caning and dragged the miscreants out.</p>
<p>As per the city police, there were about 300 customers in two different lines outside the Apple Store and the minor scuffle erupted because one person tried to break into the queue.</p>
<p>Once the store opened at the designated time of 8 am, it was a smooth flow with customers going in and quickly picking up units of their desired model.</p>
<p>"Every year, I stand in line from 3 am to buy the newest model. I have been very excited about the model and had been waiting for it for the past six months," said Aman Memon, among the first customers, who bought three units for him and family.</p>
<p>Memon told PTI that the colour features of the new phone, along with a newer bionic chip is a big draw for him.</p>
<p>In the run up to the retailing of the newest series launched earlier this month in the US, Apple had put up a unique marketing display outside the store and its chief executive Tim Cook has even shared a picture of the Mumbai store over his social media handle.</p>

Have been standing in a queue, but the security here has no responsibility. People are breaking lines. Those standing behind don't get the chance to buy the product due to a lack of responsibility among the security officials. I have been here from 5 am," he told ANI.</p>
<p>While some faced inconvenience, others were visibly excited. Mumbai resident Bayan Kapoor said, "Apple fever is quite high among the public. The reviews of the phone are good. I just want to buy it now, provided I get a chance. I don't know if I can buy it or not due to the large crowd."</p>
<p>Customers who managed to secure the new devices shared their enthusiasm. Amaan Memon, holding his new iPhone 17 Pro Max, said, "I am very excited for the iPhone 17 Pro Max series. This time, Apple has a new design. It features the A19 Bionic chip, so the gaming experience will be enhanced. I have been waiting for this colour for the last 6 months, when I came to know that this colour is going to be launched." Another buyer, Irfan, added, "I've come to buy the orange iPhone 17 PRO Max. I've been waiting since 8 pm. This time, there are changes to the camera and battery, and the look is also different."</p>
<p>A similar rush was seen outside the Apple outlet at Select Citywalk Mall in New Delhi, where people waited overnight, sitting outside the gates to ensure they were among the first to purchase the phones.</p>

<p>Sources said that the Pegatron deal is likely to be done at a lower valuation.</p>

One of the cars had been recovered as of Wednesday afternoon, &ldquo;This destructive and illegal behaviour cannot and will not be tolerated in our city,&rdquo; Mayor Jim Kenney, a Democrat, said on social media, calling it a &ldquo;sickening display of opportunistic criminal activity.&rdquo; His administration is working with police to assess &ldquo;which areas of the city may need increased coverage or additional resources,&rdquo; he said.</p>
<p>People appeared to have organised efforts on social media, Stanford said. Police are investigating &ldquo;that there was possibly a caravan of a number of different vehicles that were going from location to location" and that a couple of people in the caravan were in custody.</p>
<p>There was a high number of young people in Philadelphia's downtown business corridor, called Centre City, shortly before 8 p.m., and some officers stopped a group of males &ldquo;dressed in black attire and wearing masks," according to a police news release.</p>
<p>At that time, reports and 911 calls came in about the Foot Locker store. When police arrived, they found it had been &ldquo;ransacked in a coordinated attack,&rdquo; the news release said. The juveniles fled, and at least one adult as arrested.</p>
<p>By 8:12 p.m., police responded to similar calls at Lululemon, where people were arrested. Shortly afterwards, calls directed police to the Apple Store. No arrests were made there, but the store lost phones and tablets, although many have been recovered, the news release said.</p>
<p>No injuries were immediately reported, but CBS Philadelphia reported that a security guard was assaulted at the Foot Locker.</p>
<p>In North Philadelphia, a pharmacy owner said his store was broken into for a third time and items taken.</p>

He said, though, that a safe in his store did its job, &ldquo;so there won't be any illicit narcotics hitting the street.&rdquo; The thefts occurred the same day Target announced it will close nine stores in four states, including one in New York City's East Harlem neighbourhood, and three in the San Francisco Bay Area, saying that theft and organised retail crime have threatened the safety of its workers and customers.</p>
