Apple's A12X and A12Z iPad Pro models are getting a new multitasking system with the latest iPadOS 16 beta update.

The most significant upgrade Apple revealed earlier this year with iPadOS 16 was Stage Manager, a whole new multitasking system that adds overlapping and resizable windows to the iPad.
However, it was only available for M1-powered iPad Pros.
This has changed with the most recent iPadOS 16 developer beta. Apple is now making Stage Manager compatible with a handful of older iPad Pros equipped with the A12X and A12Z SoCs.
The A12X and A12Z are still fairly strong, so the experience should be similar to that of an M1 iPad. The earlier iPad Pro devices, however, are missing one major feature: Stage Manager will only function on the iPad's own display. You will not be able to expand your display to a second monitor.
Although the lack of external display capability is disappointing, this should come as great news to those who purchased Apple's most costly iPads in recent years.
Apple also claims that developer beta 5 of iPadOS 16 would remove Stage Manager's external display functionality for M1 iPads, which has been present since the first iPadOS 16 beta was published a few months ago. It will be restored in a software upgrade later this year.
Given that certain members of the iPad community have been vocal about Stage Manager concerns, particularly when using it with an external display, it's understandable that Apple is spending some additional time to work on it.

According to <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-08-03/apple-to-delay-ipad-software-launch-by-a-month-in-unusual-move">Bloomberg</a>, Apple has delayed the launch of iPadOS 16. The update is now said to release in October instead of September.&nbsp;
iPadOS 16&rsquo;s ambitious new Stage Manager feature is reportedly the reason behind this delay. Multiple users who&rsquo;ve used stage manager in the beta version of iPadOS 16 have complained of it being non-intuitive.&nbsp;
Whether Apple is planning to make last-minute changes to Stage Manager before iPadOS 16&rsquo;s final release is not yet known.&nbsp;

With iPadOS 16, the Weather app has finally been added to the iPad.
The aforementioned Stage Manager window management system, which was first introduced in the new macOS Ventura, is also coming to iPadOS. This shows that iPadOS is putting more emphasis on multitasking. Windows can overlap and be moved into place by dragging and dropping.
With iPadOS 16, any iPad with an M1 chip can connect to an external display with a resolution of up to 6K. This means that up to 8 apps can be shown at the same time.
Apple has also made a new whiteboard app called Freeform. This app is meant to let people work together on a shared canvas. It works with the Apple Pencil and can import many different types of files, like PDFs, images, and web links.
With the new Display Zoom feature, iPads with the M1 chip will also be able to have more pixels per inch.

Apple has announced that iPadOS 16 will not be made available to the public until after iOS 16 hits mobile devices.&nbsp;
Despite the fact that Apple has historically released the new iPadOS and iOS concurrently, this separation has always been a possibility ever since Apple separated the iPad's operating system in 2019.
Apple has a history of delaying particular aspects of its mobile operating systems, but it's an entirely different matter to delay the operating system itself, skipping the initial release. This announcement also validates an earlier rumour.
Several beta testers for the future operating system have commented that the Stage Manager multitasking system on iPadOS 16 feels extremely unfinished.
Despite the fact that iPadOS may not be ready for prime time, its delay may result in strange behaviour for iPad users who instantly update to iOS 16 for their iPhones. Messages edited on iOS will almost probably appear differently on an iPad, based on the beta system's behaviour, and it's uncertain how iPadOS will handle iCloud Shared Photo libraries.&nbsp;
The delay of iPadOS raises questions about macOS Ventura, which contains Stage Manager as well. However, it is simpler to ignore on the Mac as Apple's desktop operating system does not have the same history of being updated as the iPhone.
Even with the possible drawbacks, it is probably a good idea to delay the introduction of an unfinished OS. Apple has not officially announced a release date for iPadOS, but the wait is now confirmed to be longer.
