Indian stars Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and new ODI captain Shubman Gill arrived in Perth for the three-match ODI series against Australia, marking Kohli and Rohit's first international appearance since the Champions Trophy win.

Prominent members of the Indian ODI team, including star batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and new captain Shubman Gill, arrived in Perth early on Thursday for a three-match series against Australia starting on October 19.
Apart from Kohli, Rohit and Gill, the others to land here after a delayed flight were K L Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Nitish Kumar Reddy along with some members of the support staff.
Head coach Gaurtam Gambhir and the rest of the coaching staff will join the squad later in the day as they had boarded an evening flight from Delhi on Wednesday.
The series will begin here on Sunday before moving to Adelaide (October 23), and Sydney (October 25). It will be followed by a five-match T20 International series starting October 29.
The one-dayers have generated a buzz as it is Rohit and Kohli's first international outing after India's Champions Trophy triumph in March earlier this year. The future of the two stalwarts has become a subject of intense speculation especially after Gill's elevation to ODI captaincy.
Both of them have already retired from Tests and T20 Internationals but are believed to be keen on continuing at least till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Gill, who also leads the Test side, has been supportive of the idea in his media interactions since taking over the ODI reins.
"The experience that both of them have and the matches that they have won for India, there are very few players who have won so many matches for India...players who have such skills and qualities with this experience are very few," Gill said.
"There are very few players in the world who have so much skill, quality and experience. So, in that sense, yes," he had stated about the duo's 2027 prospects during a recent Test series win over the West Indies at home.&nbsp;

India and Pakistan won't engage in any bilateral sporting clash but the cricket team will not be stopped from playing the multi-lateral Asia Cup next month, the Sports Ministry said on Thursday.
The ministry unveiled the new policy with regard to India's international engagements with emphasis on Pakistan. Sources said it is effective immediately.
"India's approach to sports events involving Pakistan reflects its overall policy in dealing with that country," states the ministry policy.
"In so far as bilateral sports events in each other's country are concerned, Indian teams will not be participating in competitions in Pakistan. Nor will we permit Pakistani teams to play in India," it added.
However, the multilateral engagements will not be affected.
"We will not stop Indian cricket team from playing in Asia Cup as it is multilateral," the ministry source said.
"But Pakistan will not be allowed on Indian soil for bilateral competitions. But we will not stop them from multilateral events as we will abide by Olympic Charter," he added.
Asked if Indian teams will be allowed to travel to Pakistan for any multi-lateral competitions, the source said, "In that scenario, we will examine the case before deciding anything."&nbsp;
"Even in multi-lateral events, we can't leave our athletes in lurch. After all it's a country that has no hesitation in declaring that its a dumpster and can hit the shining Mercedes that is India," he added.&nbsp;

Test skipper Shubman Gill was on Tuesday appointed as the vice-captain, while pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was also included in India's 15-member T20 squad for the Asia Cup starting September 9 in the UAE.
Gill's last T20 match was against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in 2024 and he has now replaced Axar Patel as the deputy of skipper Suryakumar Yadav.
"Gill's form in England was something we expected but he exceeded it all," chief selector Ajit Agarkar said during the squad announcement press conference here.
There were some lingering doubts on Bumrah's availability largely due to the proximity to the home Test series against the West Indies in October.
But the selectors opted to pick and this will be Bumrah's first T20 tournament since last year's World Cup.
Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav too has been drafted in, while Jitesh Sharma will be the back-up wicketkeeper batter.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was among the five standby players chosen by the selectors.
"It's unfortunate Jaiswal has had to miss out but he will have to wait," Agarkar said.
India is placed in Group A of the Asia Cup alongside Pakistan, Oman, and UAE.

The Indian selectors face a major dilemma ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 in UAE&mdash;how to accommodate Shubman Gill in an already settled T20 squad led by Suryakumar Yadav.

How to fit in a brilliant batter like Shubman Gill in a well-oiled T20 set up will be the biggest challenge for India's national selection committee when it gathers on Tuesday to pick the 15-member squad for next month'sAsia Cup in UAE.
As of now, the prolific Test captain, who had a dream run in England recently, is not organically fitting into the side which will play the continental showpiece from September 9 to 28.
For Ajit Agarkar and his colleagues, the major point of deliberation will be how to fix something that doesn't need to be mended.
It's a "scary" conundrum for the selectors but Indian cricket right now is a T20 talent factory with at least 30 players who are ready to come into the national squad with three to four options available for one slot.
For the top three positions, there are six cricketers of similar pedigree available.
Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma have been phenomenal in national colours through last season but then the ones who are equally good, if not better, happen to be Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan (the IPL Orange Cap winner).
In bowling, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi are jostling for one slot. And the craftiest of them all Yuzvendra Chahal has been ignored for longest time.
But then selectors can pick only 15 and those in decision-making positions of T20 team have an interesting perspective.
One important member of team management feels that it would be unfair on anyone who has been a first XI regular during the past season to be deprived to accommodate a bigger brand name or star.
The other school of thought is that Indian cricket works well with one all-format captain who also becomes the biggest marketing brand -- in this case Gill, who is an obvious choice for a lot of stakeholders going forward.
But then to assume this will happen smoothly is oversimplification of the issue.
Under Suryakumar Yadav's able leadership, the Indian T20 squad has a phenomenal 85 per cent record, winning 17 of its last 20 games. None of these games featured Gill and Jaiswal.
But there's a catch too.
Before Gill and Jaiswal became busy with Test commitments in the past one year, they were playing T20 Internationals s and were doing well including impressive IPLs.
Gill was in fact vice captain to Surya before he had to forego T20Is due to Tests. Axar Patel, the Delhi Capitals skipper, became Surya's deputy and performed decently even though he is not considered a long-term leadership candidate.
However, Axar will certainly feel shortchanged if Gill supercedes him as Surya's deputy.
On Tuesday, if selectors pick Gill in the 15, then they have to play him in the eleven which means one among Sanju, Abhishek or Tilak will have to compromise their batting slots.
To include Shubman in the 15could also means dropping Rinku Singh. The big-hitter hasn't done much in head coach Gautam Gambhir's era either for Kolkata Knight Riders or India.
In Gambhir's book there's nothing called a designated finisher. So choices won't be easy.
Choice of pacers&nbsp;
With Hardik Pandya being as good a frontline pacer as one can get and Jasprit Bumrah along with Arshdeep Singh being automatic choices in the line-up, there are three options for the reserve seamer's slot.
Harshit Rana looks the favourite as both Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj are being considered red-ball specialists.
With hoem series against the West Indies starting October 2, it is understood that Bumrah might not be required against the relatively weak visitors side as Prasidh and Siraj will be fresh and raring to go.
Choice of spinners
Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav are first three choices and Gambhir's affinity for all-rounders is likely to ensure Washington Sundar in the side.
The pitches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi won't be as worn out and slow as they were during the Champions Trophy but there is reasonable help for spin bowlers.
Finishers and Keeper-batter
Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rishabh Pant are yet to recover from their respective injuries. As a result, Shivam Dube will be the second seam bowling all-rounder after Pandya.
The second keeper's slot is a fight between Jitesh Sharma and Dhruv Jurel.
Jitesh played some good knocks as a finisher for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their IPL-winning campaign and is more suited for a lower-order role.

The meeting came just a day after India&rsquo;s gripping third Test loss to England at Lord&rsquo;s, where the visitors came agonizingly close to pulling off a dramatic victory but fell short by 22 runs. Having already retired from T20 Internationals after the World Cup last year, Rohit will now only be seen in the ODI format for India.

The legendary Sunil Gavaskar has expressed great admiration for Jasprit Bumrah's leadership qualities, asserting that the exceptional fast bowler is poised to succeed Rohit Sharma as the next captain of the Indian cricket team. Gavaskar's praise stems from Bumrah's remarkable performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he left a lasting impression.
Bumrah&rsquo;s outstanding contribution included one of the finest bowling performances by an overseas pacer in Australia, taking an impressive 32 wickets across five Tests. He also captained India during their only victory in the series, guiding the team to a dominant win at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
Gavaskar, speaking on Channel 7, said, "He could be the next man. I think he will be the next man. Because he leads from the front, he has got a very good air about him, the air of a leader but not somebody who is going to pressure on you."
The batting legend further elaborated, "Sometimes, you have captains who put a lot of pressure on you. With Bumrah you can see that, he expects the others to do what their job is, why they are in the national team, but it doesn't seem to pressurise anybody."
Bumrah has been the spearhead of the Indian pace attack for several years, and his leadership has been instrumental in the development of fast bowlers like Mohammed Siraj. Gavaskar added, "With the fast bowlers, he has been absolutely brilliant, standing at mid-off, mid-on and every time just being at hand to tell them. I think he was absolutely brilliant and I won&rsquo;t be surprised if he takes over very soon."
During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah averaged an outstanding 13.06 with a strike rate of 28.37 before injury forced him to pull up midway through Australia&rsquo;s first innings in the final Test. Despite this setback, he had already delivered significant performances, including a match-winning eight-wicket haul in Perth, six wickets in the first innings at the Gabba, and a pivotal spell in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG.
In the series decider at the SCG, Bumrah struck early, dismissing Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne, but could only bowl one over after lunch on the second day due to injury. Despite his limited participation in the final Test, Bumrah was named the Player of the Series, a fitting recognition for his unforgettable contribution to India's success.

Asserting that "debates" in the dressing room should not come out in public domain, India head coach Gautam Gambhir on Thursday said he has had some "honest" conversations with his players as only performance can help them stay in the set-up.
Gambhir also side-stepped queries on whether out-of-form skipper Rohit Sharma will get a place in the final XI for the fifth and final Test against Australia starting on Friday.
Amid speculation of unrest in the dressing room, the feisty head coach sought to douse the fire by declaring that they were "just reports, not truth".
"Debates between coach and player should remain in dressing room. Stern words. They were just reports not truth," Gambhir said in the pre-match press meet here.
"Indian cricket will be in safe hands till honest people stay in the dressing room. Only thing that keeps you in the dressing room is performance," he added.
"There were honest words and honesty is important," he asserted.
Gambhir refused to say whether Rohit will get a place in the team. The question thrown at him was why the captain had not come to address the match-eve press conference as is the norm and if he is there in the final XI.
"Everything is fine with Rohit. The head coach is here and that should be enough. We will decide on the playing XI after looking at the pitch," Gambhir said.
The former opener also said his discussions with senior batter Virat Kohli and Rohit have only been about strategies to win the ongoing Test series.
"Every individual knows what are the areas to work on. We have only had one conversation with them (and that is) how to win Test matches," he said.
Gambhir also confirmed that pacer Akash Deep will miss the New Year Test with a stiff back, though he refrained from naming a replacement for him.
Although he refused to analyse individuals when asked about the questionable shot selection of players like Rishabh Pant in crunch situations, Gambhir did assert that the team's interest is paramount.
"I don't want to talk about individuals. Team first ideology matters. People can play natural game but in team sport, individuals only contribute," he said.

Ashwin's longtime India teammate Virat Kohli penned an emotional tribute and recalled their "14 years of camaraderie", current coach Gautam Gambhir hailed his influence on future generations, and Ajinkya Rahane reminisced how his every ball felt like a wicket-taking delivery.
"I've played with you for 14 years and when you told me today you're retiring, it made me a bit emotional and the flashbacks of all those years playing together came to me," Kohli posted in X.
Ashwin, 38, announced his decision during the press meet in Gabba that happened after the third Test between India and Australia ended in a draw.
Earlier in the day, Kohli was seen embracing the off-spinner following a lengthy conversation in the dressing room as Ashwin wiped his eyes, sparking speculations on his retirement.
"I've enjoyed every bit of the journey with you ash, your skill and match winning contributions to Indian cricket are second to none and you will always and always be remembered as a legend of Indian cricket," Kohli added.
With 765 international scalps in his bag, Ashwin is the second-highest wicket-taker from India after Anil Kumble.
Ashwin has taken 537 wickets at an average of 24 in 106 Test matches. He is also seventh on the overall list of wicket-takers.

Off-spinner R Ashwin announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on Wednesday, December 18.

India's premier off-spinner R Ashwin on Wednesday surprised the cricketing world by announcing his retirement with immediate effect in the middle of the Test series against Australia here.
Ashwin retires from the game as the second highest wicket-taker for India in Tests with 537 scalps in 106 games, leaving him only behind Anil Kumble (619 wickets). He will continue to play club cricket.
"I won't take too much of your time. Today will be the last day for me as an India cricketer," Ashwin said at the end of the drawn third Test here in a joint press conference with captain Rohit Sharma during which he declined to take any questions and left after making the announcement.

Robin Uthappa opens up on India's new era under Gambhir, Rohit and Virat's replacement and more!

Robin Uthappa discusses India's cricketing future under Gautam Gambhir, potential replacements for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He also weighs in on Sanju Samson's selection challenges and his own cricket ambitions with the Indian team.

Q: On the Indian Cricket Team's new era under Gautam Gambhir.
It&rsquo;s a start of something new post the T20 World Cup. It's an important start for India. Yes, they played in Zimbabwe, but traveling with the team and being the first tour of any coach or any leadership group will take time to settle down. As fans and as supporters and lovers of Indian Cricket, we need to give them that time to settle down and fall into a rhythm. So I think this one is going to be an exciting tour to just see how the team functions in this new infrastructure.
Q: On whether Suryakumar Yadav will be a better captain than Rohit Sharma or Hardik Pandya.
Well, I don't think we should be comparing it. We understand the kind of player Suryakumar is. We are yet to discover the kind of leader Surya will be. To keep an open mind and expect and hope for the best for someone like Surya because the batter Suryakumar Yadav has been second to none. He's been an incredible batter and someone who has been such an important cog in this Indian cricket team, especially in T20 cricket. One of the best T20 batters in the world, arguably ever. He has grown by leaps and bounds over the last five-seven years. We understand and know that his rapport with someone like Gautam Gambhir is phenomenal. You know that their combination perhaps will work really well with each other. I think it's a matter of time to see how they do well. But just hope for the best for the two of them as a leading leadership group. Because there's a lot of choice; there's a lot of quality that's out there; as far as Indian Cricket is concerned. So just to kind of exercise patience as they go into this venture together.
Q: On the challenges Sanju Samson faces in being picked for the Indian Cricket team.
Sanju (Samson) was part of the T20 World Cup winning side. It's not easy to be a part of the World Cup team. It's a huge achievement in itself just to find yourself as a member of the World Cup team. And Sanju has been a part of the World Cup winning side. Yes, albeit he didn't get to play a game in that, but he was there. So I think they picked him... Unfortunately for him, I think the biggest challenge for someone like Sanju is the fact that, you can't find a spot for him that he can consistently play at. The batting position for someone like him is, we all know Sanju bats best at number three, maximum number four. And that's been a hard one to find for Sanju Samson within this Indian team. And it's a problem that Sanju is not the first one to experience in Indian cricket and won't be the last one to experience in Indian cricket. We've all been through it. You've got to take it in your stride. And I think Sanju has done fairly well with the opportunities that has come his way. And we all know how all of us fans love Sanju and support Sanju from the outside. He'll get his opportunities. But when these opportunities do come in that position that he does thrive in, he needs to grab those opportunities and leave no stone unturned to cement that position there when the opportunities do come.
Q: Who could replace Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in Indian T20I setup?
There&rsquo;s so much quality and options to pick from. The likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma have missed out from this T20I squad. But the quality of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal; both didn&rsquo;t get to play in the World Cup. And I think Shubman Gill is a World Cup quality player. He deserves to be a World Cup winner. If you think of some of the players who missed out on this World Cup, for me, those names that immediately come up is, obviously Shubman Gill, KL Rahul. I think these guys are the ones who, are incredibly talented players and someone who are such important players in the Indian cricket narrative that I feel these are players who deserved to win the World Cup as well and missed out. And I think that this is the fact that they will know. So quality is never going to be an issue for India. It's about finding it's about them finding a space in those places to be able to, you know, stack up performances at the right time to be at the right place. A great start post the World Cup is Shubman Gill &amp; Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top of the order. I do believe that, Rutu &amp; Abhishek&rsquo;s time will come. I think it&rsquo;s a matter of time.
Q: On roles that Robin Uthappa will be taking up in the near future.
I'm enjoying my cricket. Unfortunately for me, current leagues aren&rsquo;t happening for me, even though I&rsquo;m available. One of the reasons I retired is so that I could play a lot more cricket. In India, because of the rules that are there, as a current Indian player; you can't play leagues outside of India, and I wanted to experience that as a student of the game. I wanted to experience that cricket and play competitive cricket all over the world. But unfortunately for some reason that, we have to retire from all forms of Indian cricket to be able to make ourselves available to play cricket outside of India. And I think the narrative that sticks for some reason is that he's retired, so he's not necessarily interested. But it's quite the opposite for me. Which is why I'm keeping myself as fit as I can be and hoping to play as much cricket that I can play. Unfortunately, the only current cricket I am playing at the moment is T10 Cricket. But I'm hoping that I get to play T20 Cricket as well. And I'm hoping that those opportunities do come. Till they do come, I&rsquo;m trying to play as much cricket as I can and whatever comes my way, which is why I find myself playing these legends leagues. It's fun. It's a lot of fun to be able to play with your, your teammates on the bus. And it's a lot of fun. And I really had a lot of fun playing with the likes of Irfan (Pathan), Yusuf (Pathan), (Ambati) Rayudu, (Suresh) Raina, Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh), Bajju (Harbhajan Singh). It felt like we went back 20 years and we were just seeing those little kids again who are coming up through the ranks, It is a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it. And I&rsquo;m hoping to play a lot more current cricket as well.
Q: Will Robin Uthappa be interested in taking up a role as the Indian Cricket team head coach in the future?
Maybe not now. I certainly would enjoy the responsibility to be able to serving Indian cricket in a different way. And you know a team environment is something I truly enjoy. As far as I'm concerned at this point in time, I'd love to spend time with my kids right now, my family right now. I have a very young family and I understand the responsibilities that it takes to serve your country. And I believe the time will come, in the future maybe; not in the immediate future, but definitely in the future is something I would be very keen on.
Q: On the upcoming Sri Lanka vs India series.
Yes, I really am looking forward to it. Sri Lanka is a place I've always enjoyed and going out there and watching these young cricketers trying to make a space for themselves within that the new ecosystem is something that I enjoy calling.
