Hardik Pandya, Abhishek Sharma, and Varun Chakravarthy held on to their No.1 spots in the latest ICC T20 rankings, with Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav and Mustafizur Rahman also making notable gains.

The Indian trio of all-rounder Hardik Pandya, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy and aggressive opener Abhishek Sharma retained their respective top positions in the ICC T20 rankings, released on Wednesday.
Chakravarthy, who became the top-ranked bowler last week, has consolidated his place with a 14 rating points gain taking him to 747 points.
Following an 11-place jump last week, Pakistan's Abrar Ahmed has made another massive leap, this time by 12 spots.
After a temporary dip in form, which saw him lose four ranking positions last week, Bangladesh's seasoned T20I pacer Mustafizur Rahman is back in top 10 courtesy a six-place jump. The left-arm pacer has grabbed six wickets at an average of eight in his last two outings in the tournament.
Pandya who continues to lead the all-rounder's list has also made bowling gains, moving up six places up to 60.
Among the batters, opener Abhishek made rating points gains while retaining his place as the No.1 ranked T20I batter. He hit a quick-fire 38 against Oman during India's final group stage clash, before smashing a match-winning 74 to chase down Pakistan&rsquo;s total of 171 on Sunday.
Tilak Varma, who helped finish the chase against Pakistan with an electric 30 not out off 19, moved up a rung to No.3.
Skipper Suryakumar Yadav too gained a place to move within touching distance of the top five.
Sahibzada Farhan, who smashed a 58 off 45 to get Pakistan going in the same game, jumped 31 spots to reach 24th place.
Hussain Talat who guided Pakistan to a win against Sri Lanka with a composed innings, jumped an astronomical 1474 spots to become the joint 234th placed in the men's T20I batter rankings.
Another massive gainer was Saif Hassan, whose 61 had helped Bangladesh get to a winning start in Super Fours at Asia Cup. The batter gained 133 places to reach the 81st ranking in the batting charts.

India face Bangladesh in the Asia Cup Super 4 clash on Wednesday. While India dominate head-to-head records, Bangladesh&rsquo;s spinners and Mustafizur Rahman could pose a challenge.

Having overpowered Pakistan in an intense tussle, a battle-hardened Indian team will square off in another potentially volatile Asia Cup Super 4 game against Bangladesh on Wednesday when it is expected to encounter some quality spinners.
In terms of statistics, this is supposed to be another lopsided one as Bangladesh have won only once in 17 head-to-head encounters between the two teams in the T20 format.
But since the 2015 ODI World Cup and a benefit of doubt life to Rohit Sharma at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, it has gotten bitter between the two teams, thanks to the partisan young fans, many of whom perceive India as an adversary.
India's diplomatic relations with Bangladesh after the toppling of the Sheikh Hasina Government have been rocky.
The BCCI even postponed a white-ball series, which was scheduled in August this year, to 2026 provided there is a democratically elected government in place.
On paper, Bangladesh are no match for India. T20Is aren't even Bangladesh's strength and if all goes well, it could be another thumping win for Suryakumar Yadav's men.
But the fickle nature of the format and the slightly better spin attack of Bangladesh means they could spring a surprise.
However, it is the gulf in standard of batters across two sides that is ultimately going to be the difference.
In the Indian team, one opener Abhishek Sharma is in the form of his life, scoring runs at a strike rate of nearly 210, while his partner in crime Shubman Gill has propped up his to nearly 158 rate after the last Pakistan game.
In comparison, Bangladesh's two best T20 batters -- skipper Litton Das (129 plus) and Towhid Hridoy (SR 124 plus) have mediocre numbers to show for their efforts.
Bangladesh's best chance is to make India bat first and expect that Mustafizur Rahman, at the death, and the two spinners -- leg-break bowler Rishad Hossain and off-spinner Mahedi Hasan -- choke the run-flow in the middle overs to make a game out of it.
Bangladesh's batting unit collectively doesn't have the power game to dominate Indian bowlers but where they can create a bit of problem is by restricting India in the 150-160 range which will be chaseable for them.
For India, there is one minor issue which the team's analytics department must have taken note of and that is Tilak Varma's struggles against spin this year.
Noted analytics site 'CricMetric' has provided a lowdown of Tilak's strike-rate against spin in T20Is across 2024 and 2025.
In 2024, Tilak played 61 deliveries against slow bowlers in five games and scored 116 runs at a strike-rate of 190 plus. His dot ball percentage against spinners was 21.3.
But in 2025, Tilak has scored only 92 runs off 80 balls in seven innings at a strike-rate of 115 and a dot ball percentage of 38.
The left-hander has been way more comfortable against quicker bowlers and scored freely with lofted shots.
But against spinners, when the ball slightly grips and comes late, he has been struggling. With Tilak and Sanju both expected to bat at Nos 4 and 5, they will have some job to do if there is a mini collapse which can happen in any game.
Rinku Singh is a far better player of spin bowling compared to Tilak but when it comes to the Indian team management over the years, the batting unit has been more about continuity.
Bangladesh's five-pronged bowling, which has Mustafizur, Taskin Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Sakib as the three front-line pacers, is decent if not extraordinary.
Mustafizur, with years of IPL experience and variations in slow bowling, will certainly ask a few probing questions that Indian batters might need to answer.

The BCCI is expected to defer India's white-ball tour of Bangladesh due to security concerns following political unrest. The series may be rescheduled for 2026.

India's upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh is likely to be postponed as the BCCI is "wary" of the security situation in the country which is in turmoil since last year's civil unrest that resulted in the overthrowing of the Sheikh Hasina-led government.
India were to play three three T20 Internationals and three ODIs during the tour from August 17 to 31 in Chittagong and Dhaka.
"Apparently BCCI is wary about the security situation in Bangladesh post the civil unrest," a BCCI source told PTI.
However, the series is not cancelled but will be held at a later date "preferably 2026" as ODI Championship points for World Cup qualification are linked to it.
It is understood that BCCI wants the tour to go ahead only after the general elections are held in Bangladesh and "a stable government is in place taking care of the law and order situation." Elections in Bangladesh are not expected to take place before early next year.
Bangladesh is currently governed by an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.
Yunus took over after Hasina was ousted following a students-led protest against reservation in jobs in August last year. She fled to India following the toppling of her Awami League government.
Most senior leaders of the Awami League and ministers and senior officials of the ousted regime were arrested or fled the country after the fall of the then government.
Several of these leaders, including ministers, came under mob attack in the past few months.&nbsp;

Shubman Gill&rsquo;s unbeaten 101 and Mohammed Shami&rsquo;s five-wicket haul led India to a comfortable six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy opener.&nbsp;

Shubman Gill was more artisan than artist en route to his eighth ODI hundred after Mohammed Shami&rsquo;s satisfying five-wicket haul, propelling India to a workmanlike six-wicket win over Bangladesh in their Champions Trophy opener here on Thursday.
Gill&rsquo;s unbeaten innings (101, 129b, 9&times;4. 2&times;6) had a mirror image in Bangladesh innings through Towhid Hridoy&rsquo;s 100 (118b) that lifted them to 228 from the depths of 35 for five after batting by choice.
But India negated various pressure points, including a sluggish surface, during their chase effectively through Gill&rsquo;s knock full of substance, and ended up at 231 for four in 46.3 overs.
It&rsquo;s also a nerve-settling victory for India ahead of their much-awaited clash against a more accomplished Pakistan at the same venue on February 23.
Gill, the world&rsquo;s No. 1 ODI batter, played a massive role in it, dishing out a century which was more remarkable for its restraint than the customary flair.
It was also a reflection of his growing stature as India&rsquo;s new generation batting star.
Chasing a modest 229, openers Rohit Sharma (41, 36b) and Gill gave India a rollicking start.
They added 69 runs in 9.5 overs before Rohit got out to pacer Taskin Ahmed while attempting a mighty heave, leaving India at 69 for 1.
The partnership was significant from a game point of view as the pitch slowed down considerably in the middle overs, making batting a tad tougher task.
Virat Kohli looked a bit over-watchful and circumspect before opening his account after facing 10 balls.
Though he grew comfortable, an uppish cut of leg-spinner Rishad Hossain ended his stay for 22.
The quick wickets of Axar Patel, who was once again promoted to No. 5, and Shreyas Iyer had India at a slightly worrying 144 for four.
But KL Rahul, who was dropped on nine by Jaker Ali off Taskin, ensured that there were no further hiccups and played a resolute unbeaten innings of 41 off 47 balls.
Gill and Rahul added 87 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket alliance to carry their side home.
Earlier, a cramping Hridoy, who made a courageous maiden ODI hundred and an equally gutsy Ali (68, 114b, 4&times;4) added 154 for a doughty sixth-wicket stand to give some respectability to Bangladesh total.

India also found another shining shard of positive in Shami&rsquo;s outing.
Shami also eased a lot of worries over the absence of injured pace ace Jasprit Bumrah with a five for 53 effort, and during the spell he also became the fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 ODI wickets.
Hridoy&rsquo;s innings was an example of how to construct an innings yet maintain a healthy run-rate as he reached the milestone in just 114 balls.
He and Ali also showed excellent composure under pressure.
However, both the Bangladesh batters benefited from the largesse of Indian fielders, as Ali was dropped on zero off the first ball he faced off left-arm spinner Axar (2/43).
It also robbed Axar of a hat-trick after he dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim and Tanzid Hasan off successive deliveries.
Hridoy had the fortune when he was grassed by Hardik Pandya at mid-off off Kuldeep Yadav when he was on 23.
Rahul, who was sharp behind the stumps, floored a stumping chance to give the second reprieve for Hridoy.
But those moments of slip-ups should not take anything away from the way Indian bowlers, especially Shami, used the new ball on a rather slow but smooth pitch.
Shami, who had an average outing against England in T20I and ODI series recently at home, did not disappoint on the big stage and took the wicket of opener Soumya Sarkar in the first over itself.
He did not take much time to grab his second wicket when he ousted Mehdy Hasan Miraz &mdash; caught brilliantly by Shubman Gill in the slips.
The Bengal pacer later returned to break the determined stand between Hridoy and Ali, dismissing the latter.
He later took two more wickets, and now the 34-year-old is India&rsquo;s highest wicket taker in ICC tournaments, going past former pacer Zaheer Khan (59).
Harshit Rana (3/31) gave good backing to his senior partner.

Skipper Rohit Sharma showered praise on his deputy Shubman Gill and veteran pacer Mohammed Shami for coming up with game-changing performances against Bangladesh in India&rsquo;s Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh here on Thursday.
Gill made an unbeaten hundred and Shami walked away with a five-wicket haul as India registered a six-wicket win over Bangladesh at the DICS.
&ldquo;We&rsquo;ve been in that situation many times before and like I said many times (in the past), there&rsquo;s a lot of experience in that dressing room to handle that composure where it&rsquo;s needed and KL (Rahul) and (Shubman) Gill at the end were quite composed,&rdquo; Rohit said during the post-match presentation.
Rohit heaped praise on player of the match Gill.
&ldquo;Gill, we know the class that he has, he&rsquo;s been batting brilliantly of late and today what he showed us with the bat shouldn&rsquo;t surprise anyone,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;What was good to see that he was there till the end to make sure that he sees off the game,&rdquo; Rohit added.
Rohit also lauded Shami for his five-for that helped the pacer to complete 200 wickets in ODIs.
&ldquo;Yeah, very happy for him. (It has been a) long time waiting, we obviously know what he brings to us,&rdquo; Rohit said.
&ldquo;The quality that he has, the kind of match winner he is developing himself into for us, every time we throw the ball at him he&rsquo;s got something up his sleeves, which is always nice and we need guys like these to stand up in big moments,&rdquo; he added.
Rohit said India expect the pitch here at the Dubai International Stadium to remain slow for their next Champions Trophy clash against Pakistan on February 23.
&ldquo;Very hard to say that,&rdquo; Rohit replied when asked if his side thought the pitch behaved as per their expectations.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s just one game, very hard to make anything out of the track, but we knew there&rsquo;s not enough grass on the pitch and it is going to be on the slower side and that is exactly how the pitch played,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;But again, you play (according to) the conditions. You try and think about what you want to do as a team and I thought we adapted to the conditions really well, to start with our bowling.&rdquo;
India were off to a brisk start but were forced to change their approach midway through the innings and Rohit admitted his side was &ldquo;under pressure&rdquo; chasing 229.
&ldquo;With the bat as well, yes, we were under pressure a little bit. But when you&rsquo;re playing a game like this, (in the) Champions Trophy (against a) quality team, you&rsquo;re bound to be under pressure and that is where the experience comes into play,&rdquo; he said.
The Mumbaikar said he was not happy with the dropped catch of Jaker Ali (68) which denied Axar Patel a hat-trick.
&ldquo;May take him for dinner tomorrow,&rdquo; he quipped.
&ldquo;It was an easy catch. I should have taken that catch, the standard that I have set for myself, standing in the first slip, that was a little disappointing, but these things happen,&rdquo; Rohit added.
&ldquo;But again, the way these guys bowled that set the game for us to be honest, I know they were 36 for five and then they got a big partnership.&rdquo;
&ldquo;These things are bound to happen, there will be partnerships, credit to (Towhid) Hridoy and Jaker Ali, they played brilliantly to stitch that big partnership,&rdquo; he said.
Gill termed his 101 not out as &ldquo;one of the most satisfying innings&rdquo; for himself
&ldquo;Definitely (it was) one of my most satisfying innings that I&rsquo;ve played and my first century in an ICC event so very satisfying and very happy with the way I performed,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;When myself and Rohit bhai went out there, cutting the ball wasn&rsquo;t that easy because the balls outside the off (stump) weren&rsquo;t coming onto the bat. So I thought of using my feet to even the fast bowlers when I&rsquo;m trying to go over the circle,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;When the when the spinners came on me and Virat bhai were talking about in the middle that it&rsquo;s not easy to score signals off the front foot,&rdquo; he added.
Gill said he was asked to finish off the match. &ldquo;At one point there was a bit of pressure on us and the message was sent from outside (that) I have to try to be at the end and that&rsquo;s what I tried to do,&rdquo; he said.

Team India begins its Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh, facing key selection decisions and adjusting its bowling attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.

A turbulent recent cricketing past has made a resonant effort mandatory for India in the Champions Trophy, and their opening match against a tricky Bangladesh on Thursday will be the first point in assuaging a set of existential questions surrounding this team.
They are vexing even for a pre-tournament favourite like India. Can this Indian bowling unit tide over the absence of injured pace talisman Jasprit Bumrah? Can Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma summon their glory days back? Can young names like Shubman Gill ace the pressure of a multi-nation competition to deliver consistently?&nbsp;
In that context, the ICC showpiece is a godsend because ODI is the comfort zone of those icons and young tyros in this Indian line-up, and they will be genuinely eyeing a strong outing.&nbsp;
It&rsquo;s imperative that they do so -- from a team and individual perspective. It would not be an exaggeration to say that Kohli, Rohit and even head coach Gautam Gambhir, although only six months into his tenure, are living on borrowed time because the shockwaves created by the setbacks against New Zealand and Australia have not subsided yet. Some bright signs are there though.&nbsp;
Skipper Rohit made a century a few days back against England and Kohli a fifty, while Gambhir masterminded the dominant 4-1 and 3-0 victories in T20Is and ODIs respectively.&nbsp;
Gill was exceptional while emerging as the player of the series, cracking two fifties and a hundred in three ODIs against England. But the challenge India face in the Champions Trophy is vastly different from a rather cosy home series.&nbsp;
Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand, their opponents in Group A, are far more motivated than the seemingly disinterested England whom they faced recently, and even one defeat can change the whole league stage equation quite dramatically.&nbsp;
<h3>The selection riddles&nbsp;</h3>
Although India is playing a strong brand of 50-over cricket of late, they have some selection riddles to solve before they face Bangladesh. It starts with KL Rahul&rsquo;s batting position. Will he bat at No. 5, his most productive slot, or at No. 6 with Axar Patel coming one place above him?&nbsp;
The wicketkeeper batter had batted at No. 6 in the first two matches against England before going back to No. 5 in the final one-dayer.&nbsp;
In all likelihood, the team management could remain fluid and take a call as per the game situation here. However, finding the right balance in bowling poses a bigger challenge, partly because of the injury-enforced absence of Bumrah.&nbsp;
It will be a toss-up between Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana as the new-ball partner of lead pacer Mohammed Shami, who will have to lift his game by a few notches here.&nbsp;
Rana might have been impressive so far in his outings, and he has the ability to hustle the batters with sheer pace and bounce even on the most docile of pitches. But, at this moment, Arshdeep is the frontrunner to share the newball duties because of the left-arm angle and the variety he possesses in his bowling.&nbsp;
Other than that, India is likely to go with three spinners with Hardik Pandya as the fast-bowling all-rounder. But herein too, India will have to ponder over who is the third spinner behind primary choices Ravindra Jadeja and Axar.&nbsp;
They have a tough selection to make between left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy. If the recent form is the yardstick, then &lsquo;mystery spinner&rsquo; Chakravarthy should get the nod, but Kuldeep showed his readiness while outwitting some reputed batters in the nets in Dubai on Tuesday.&nbsp;
But India can take consolation from the fact that Bangladesh is going through turmoil of their own, weakened by the absence of stars like Shakib Al Hasan. However, India would not like to leave anything to chance as Bangladesh has proved to be the proverbial banana peel for them in the past in global events.&nbsp;
