As India celebrated its 75 years of Independence, wishes poured in from across the world to wish the Indian leadership in achieving this milestone.
World leaders including the likes of US President Joe Biden, Russia's Vladimir Putin, penned notes on India's successful completion of 75 years:
US President Joe Biden in a statement said India's Independence Day also marks celebration of 75 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries. "The United States joins the people of India to honor its democratic journey, guided by Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring message of truth and non-violence," the statement further read
Russian President Vladimir Putin on the other hand, congratulated the Indian leadership on the day with a note he addressed to Prime Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu stating that India rightfully enjoys considerable presitge on the world stage and plays a constructive role in resolving pressing issues. "Russian-Indian relations are developing in the spirit of the special & privileged strategic partnership." he added
French President Emmanuel Macron in a tweet addressed to PM Modi congratulated India on attaining "stunning achievements" in the past 75 years as he assured the Prime Minister to count on France to always stand by India's side.
UK-acting President Boris Johnson in a heartfelt message in Hindi hoped that the ties between the two countries will strengthen further in the coming years. He also shared a picture offering tribute to Mahatma Gandhi
Satoshi Suzuki, Japanese envoy to India extended his wishes with a 'Namaskar' in a video message. The Embassy presented a vocal & instrumental rendition of India's National Anthem to mark country's 75 years of Independence
Meanwhile, foreign Ministers of Nepal, Maldives and High Commission of Sri Lanka also extended their "warmest congratulations" to the Indian government on the landmark occasion.
In his address on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to focus their energy on the five resolutions of making India a developed nation, removing every trace of bondage, taking pride in its heritage and unity, and fulfilling their duties in the next 25 years.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi in her Independence Day message alleged that a "self-obsessed" government is hell-bent on "trivialising" the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the party will strongly oppose such attempts made for political gains.

Gandhi's attack came a day after BJP released a video narrating its version of events that led to India's partition in 1947 in which it targeted top Congress leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday alleged that a "self-obsessed" government is hell-bent on "trivialising" the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the party will strongly oppose such attempts made for political gains.
Gandhi's attack came a day after the BJP released a video narrating its version of events that led to India's partition in 1947 in which it tangentially accused the top Congress leadership at the time and showed pictures of Jawaharlal Nehru and Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The Congress had also taken a strong exception to the exclusion of India&rsquo;s first prime minister Nehru in the Karnataka government's newspaper advertisement on freedom fighters and termed the BJP action "pathetic".
"Friends, we have achieved a great deal in the last 75 years, but today's self-obsessed government is bent on trivialising the great sacrifices of our freedom fighters and the glorious achievements of the country, which can never be accepted," Gandhi said in her message on India's 76th Independence Day.
The Congress will strongly oppose any misrepresentation of historical facts and every attempt to put great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Abul Kalam Azad in the dock based on falsehood for "political gains", she said.
Sonia Gandhi said that in the last 75 years, India has left an indelible mark on the international arena in all fields including science, education, health and information technology through the hard work of its talented people.
"Under the leadership of its visionary leaders, while on one hand, India established a free, fair and transparent election system, on the other, it strengthened democracy and constitutional institutions," the Congress chief said.
Along with this, India has made its identity as a leading country that has always lived up to pluralism in language, religion and sect, she added.&nbsp;

The 'Missile Man of India' and former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam first made his mark as ISRO project director when the first Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV) followed by a slew of other successful missile launch including Agni- India's first intermediate-range ballistic missile. Dr Kalam's tenure as President from 2002-2005 is fondly remembered for the inclination and equation he shared with kids.

 

Agriculture scientist MS Swaminathan regarded as 'Father of Green Revolution' is the man who transformed Indian agriculture in the 60s to boost production of rice and wheat with the introduction of hybrid varieties and synthetic fertilisers and insecticides. This increased rice production and caused a decrease in imports which had spiked in the wake of drought from 1964-70.
Another hero in the list is Bezwada Wilson who is spearheading the Safai Karamchari movement to eradicate manual scavenging in India. Time and again people working in the septic tanks and sewers have died due to the hazardous gases but not much has been done for them. Wilson's campaign against manual scavenging challenges the lackdaisical government approach as he continues to fight the casteist order and the non-implementation of laws meant to protect these people.
Kailash Satyarthi, the Nobel Peace Prize winner got the nation rid of child labour by orchestrating the liberation of over 90,000 children in India from child labour, slavery and trafficking since 1980 when he founded the Bachpan Bachao AndolanHe continues his fight for quality education to children. 
Lawyers Menaka Guruswamy and Arundhati Katju led the fight for the repeal of colonial era Section 377 which criminalized gay sex. A 5-judge bench of Supreme Court in 2018  had struck down the law saying it violated the consitutional right to equality. The lawyer-duo couple later came out as a gay couple

Bezwada Wilson 
This unsung hero is spearheading a nationwide movement to abolish the dehumanizing practice of manual scavenging in India. Bezwada Wilson's Safai Karamchari movement aims to fight for the rights of septic tank workers who die due to hazardous gases. The campaign challenges the lackdaisical government approach and the stinking legacy of casteist stigma. Despite the practice being banned in 25 years, it remains a thing. Even as India completes its 75 years, about 535 sewer workers have died &nbsp;in the last 5 years, Wilson told The Wire
Kailash Satyarthi
Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi has been instrumental in the liberation of over 85,000 children in India from exploitation, slavery and trafficking since the 1980s. His Bachpan Bachao Andolan set the roadmap for &nbsp;child rights and education. He continues his fight for quality education to children. As per a report, Satyarthi's NGO saved 1600 trafficked children from &nbsp;'situaions of exploitation' during the 2020 COVID-19 induced lockdown. The child rights activist, as of 2014 freed about 83,000 children from slavery
Lawyers Menaka Guruswamy and Arundhati Katju&nbsp; The lawyer-duo fought for the repeal of colonial era Section 377 which criminalized consensual gay sex. A 5-judge bench of Supreme Court in 2018 struck down the law saying it violated the consitutional right to equality. The landmark judgement overturning the archaic law was possible due the campaign orchesrated by Menaka and Arundati. In 2019, the lawyer-duo came out as a couple.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly will return to the cricket field as captain once again to lead India Maharajas against World Giants in the first match of the Legends League Cricket on September 15.
In a statement, league commissioner Ravi Shastri said that this year's league is dedicated to India's 75th year of Independence celebration. 
The Ganguly-led side will feature some of India's legendary players such as Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and Mohammed Kaif among others.
