A Pakistan magistrate on Saturday issued arrest warrants for former prime minister Imran Khan in a case about threatening a female judge, giving air to speculation that he may be arrested.
Khan addressing a rally on August 20 had used controversial remarks against Additional District and Sessions Judge, Zeba Chaudhry, and a case was registered against him with the Margalla Police Station in the capital while the Islamabad High Court launched contempt proceedings.
In pursuance of the case, a local magistrate issued the arrest warrant at the request of the police.
Initially, Khan was booked under terrorism laws but the charges were deleted on the directive of the Islamabad High Court and the case was transferred from an anti-terrorism court to a normal sessions court.
The bail granted to him by the anti-terrorism case also became ineffective after the case was transferred. The police said he failed to attend the last court hearing on the matter and the arrest warrant was issued to ensure his presence.
It was rumoured that the Islamabad police sent about 300 personnel to arrest Khan from his Banigala residence in the suburbs of Islamabad but the police denied the reports.
“There is no truth in this news and it is baseless,” the Islamabad police said soon after PTI supporters started to gather at Banigala in anticipation of any police action. Police asked the people not to “listen to propaganda”.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah told Geo News that Khan was not being arrested and the arrest warrant was routine and bailable.
“It is [for] a bailable crime. There is no question of arrest,” the interior minister said.
Separately, Khan earlier today submitted an affidavit in the IHC in the contempt case for threatening the additional district and sessions judge, assuring the court that he would never do anything in future that would hurt the dignity of any court and the judiciary, especially the lower judiciary.
The deposed premier further said that he is "willing to apologise" if the judge thinks that he crossed a "red line".

The move follows a police case filed against Imran for allegedly threatening government officials in a public speech about the alleged police torture of one of his aides, who faces sedition charges for inciting mutiny in the powerful military.
The protesters chanted slogans against the government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which took over after Imran’s ouster in a confidence vote in April. 
A senior leader of Imran’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf told local TV news channels that the police had issued orders for Imran’s arrest.

Earlier, hundreds of supporters of Pakistan's former prime minister, Imran Khan, had gathered outside his hilltop mansion in the capital, Islamabad as they vowed to prevent his possible arrest.

Handing Pakistan ex-PM a breather, the Islamabad High Court on Monday granted Imran Khan protective bail from arrest till Thursday.
The news comes as a relief for Imran and his supporters after he was booked under the anti-terror act.

Pakistan’s former Prime minister Imran Khan faces likely arrest after police filed an FIR against him under the country’s Anti-Terrorism Act on August 20. Khan reportedly threatened the country's institutions, police officials and a senior sessions judge at a mass rally on Saturday. 
According to copy of FIR seen by news agency PTI,  the case was registered at the Margalla Police Station of Islamabad at 10 pm on Saturday under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Moreover, the FIR reads that Khan in his speech had "terrorised and threatened top police officials and a respected female additional sessions judge" with the aim to stop them from performing their functions and abstain from pursuing any action against any individual related to his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf party. 
Since April this year, Imran Khan has been carrying out massive rallies against the current regime after he lost power in a confidence vote. 
During his mass rally in Islamabad on Saturday, Khan reportedly vowed to file complaints against police officers and a judge. 
Additionally, Pakistan’s media watchdog has already put a ban on live telecasts of Khan’s speeches.  
The FIR was registered after a complaint by magistrate judge Ali Javed, approached the cops. 
What could Imran Khan face under Section 7 of ATA 
Section 7 of Pakistan’s anti terrorism act say--Whoever commits a terrorist act shall--- 
(1) if such an act has resulted in the death of any person be punished with death; 
(ii) in any other case be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than seven years but may extend to life imprisonment, and shall also be liable to fine.
Typically after an FIR is registered under anti-terrorism act, the police arrest and interogate the accused. However, in the latest development according to a report in the Times of India Khan has moved the Islamabad court and sought pre-arrest bail in the case. As per reports by Pakistani media Imran could also be put under house arrest. The law enforcement agencies are said to be waiting for instructions from higher-ups. The interior ministry has reportedly sought written permission from the Prime Minister’s Office for Khan’s arrest. Meanwhile, Khan has been receiving massive support from party workers who have gathered outside his residence.
