A volcanic eruption on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula forced the evacuation of Grindavik and the Blue Lagoon spa.

A volcanic eruption in southwestern Iceland has once again forced the evacuation of local residents and the internationally known Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, the national broadcaster RUV reported.
The eruption began around 4 a.m. following an intense seismic swarm on the Reykjanes Peninsula, southwest of the capital, Reykjavik, Iceland's Met Office said.
The town of Grindavik was evacuated shortly after the seismic activity began, with campers and guests at the Blue Lagoon forced to quickly pack their bags, RUV reported.
Lava from the eruption is flowing southeast from a fissure in the barren landscape that is 700 to 1,000 metres (2,296 to 3,280 feet) wide, but the molten rock isn't threatening any infrastructure, the Met Office said.
Grindavik has been evacuated repeatedly since November 2023 when a volcano in the area came to life after lying dormant for some 800 years.&nbsp;

A volcano has erupted on Iceland&rsquo;s Reykjanes Peninsula, turning the sky orange and putting the country&rsquo;s civil defence on high alert.
The eruption appears to have occurred about 2.4 miles from the town of Grindavik, which was evacuated in November after strong seismic activity damaged homes and raised fears of an imminent eruption.
Grainy webcam video showed the moment of the eruption as a flash of light illuminating the sky at 10:17 p.m. on December 18.
As the eruption spread, magma, or semi-molten rock, could be seen spewing along the ridge of a hill.
A scientist who flew over the site on the morning of December 19 told Icelandic broadcaster RUV that he estimates twice as much lava had already spewed than the entire monthlong eruption on the peninsula this summer.
The area had seen thousands of earthquakes in the last two months - but the magnitudes had declined in recent weeks, leading some experts to think the risk of an eruption had abated.
The government released a statement saying the eruption does not present a threat to life.&nbsp;

NASA recently shared a spectacular picture of the Northern Lights adorning the sky in Iceland - but it came with a warning. Nasa said that the "beauty and the beast" aurora could wreak havoc on Earth. The process of fermentation makes the Greenland shark safe to consume. Earlier, the meat was buried into the ground and left to ferment for 6 to 12 weeks after which it was hung to dry. Now, it is done in plastic containers while the remaining process remains the same. The meat tastes like fermented cheese.
