Bangladesh is likely to replace Pakistan in the men's Asia Cup hockey tournament to be held in Rajgir, Bihar from August 29 if the latter fails to confirm participation in the next couple of days, a top Hockey India official told PTI on Monday.
The Indian government had already said that it will provide visas to the Pakistani players for Asia Cup, but the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has refused to travel citing security concerns.
The organisers have already approached Bangladesh to fill up Pakistan's place in the eight-team tournament, but Hockey India said the exact scenario will be clear in the next 48 hours.
"The Indian government has already said that it is will willing to provide visas to Pakistani players but if they don't want to come to India, it's not our problem. Bangladesh has already been invited to participate in case Pakistan doesn't come but we will have to wait for two more days to get the confirmation," the HI official said when quizzed about the situation.
"Neither Pakistan or Bangladesh have confirmed anything to us till now. But Bangladesh are likely replacement for Pakistan," he added.
Pakistan's participation in the Asia Cup -- a qualifying tournament for the 2026 World Cup -- was uncertain after the military confrontation with India following the Pahalgam terror attack.
India had launched Operation Sindoor to destroy terror infrastructure in Pakistan after the terror attack that killed 26 people. PHF had suggested that the tournament be moved out of India to another venue.
Besides hosts India, the other participating teams in the Asia Cup are China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Oman and Chinese Taipei.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has informed the sport's global governing body FIH that it will be "difficult" for them to send a team to India for the Asia Cup next month because of "security concerns".
Tariq Bugti, who heads the PHF, said they had written to the FIH and Asian Hockey Federation (AHF), expressing their reservations over sending the team to India.
"We have informed them that in the existing scenario, our team will face security risks playing in India," he said.
"We have informed them our players are also not keen to travel to India for the Asia Cup which is also a direct qualifying tournament," he added.
The PHF chief said the ball is now in the court of the FIH and AHF to decide about the event and Pakistan's matches.
"We have asked them to let us know what guarantee is there that our players will be safe in India and will be able to focus on the tournament," he said.
The Pakistan government is yet to come out with an official statement on the issue but recently a senior government official said the team would not travel to India.

Oruz, who was a part of Germany's bronze medial-winning side in the 2016 Rio Olympics, is pursuing her medical career in pediatrics but for the time being has taken a break to fulfil her sporting dreams.
Oruz's mother too is a pediatrician while her father is an ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist. Her brother Timur Oruz is also a member of the German men's hockey team.
"Now I am practising medicine. It's much easier because I am not working on a clinic, so I can work on the weekend. Until the Olympics, I am going to focus on hockey but in the end I want to come out of hockey and work full-time as a doctor," Oruz told PTI after Germany's 3-0 win over Chile in the FIH Olympic Qualifiers here on Saturday.
"In Germany you have 7 years of study and one year of practice at the hospital. Then you have to specialise for 5 years. I'm right now specialising in pediatrics, specialising in ear, nose and throat of children. It's a good thing to start with because kids always have some problems on these fronts.
"I am in the first year of specialisation and need four more years. I just wrote my doctor thesis. But I need some time to complete my medicine because of hockey at the moment. I don't care because going to the Olympics should be worth it and I can concentrate on medicine for the rest of my life," she added.
Oruz played a part in Germany's win over Chile by scoring the opening goal.
Oruz, who idolises her mother, said the best part of playing hockey is that the sport relaxes her from the stress of her profession.
"It's all about discipline because it is difficult to combine sports and medicine but in the end you can combine both because they are similar, you have to be 100 per cent in both, you have to give your best in everything.
"I always love to play hockey as it calms me down a bit from the stress of medicine study," the 26-year-old said.
The affinity towards kids is what motivated her take up pediatrics.
"I love kids. My mother was a pediatrician, she was my idol and she loves kids so much and I too love kids because the most important thing is to work with children and improve the environment for children for our society. This is what I live for like trying to help children because they need our help," Oruz said.
"I love to interact with people and I think every doctor is best in interaction. I also love to talk to parents, if you work with children you need to interact with parents also, try to understand children." From childhood, she was multi-talented as besides hockey and medicine, she was also into music.
"This was ages ago but I did. I also played the piano but I don't play anything now. I played the instruments when I was a kid because my parents wanted me to try everything. I had the best childhood and my parents are my idols. They tried to give us the chance to try out everything," she said.
"I played violin really well for a long time but when sports and hockey became professional I decided to concentrate on sports." Oruz said sports is just part of life for any player in Germany and the current women's national team boasts of many professionals.
"In Germany we do a lot of stuff besides hockey and this is a good part. There is a psychologist, a law student, we have so many professionals in the team. It's really nice to have so many smart girls in the team."

Harmanpreet scored a brace through penalty corners to finish the tournament as India's top scorer with 13 goals, one ahead of striker Mandeep Singh.

Skipper Harmanpreet Singh led admirably as the Indian men's hockey team mauled defending champions Japan 5-1 to reclaim the Asian Games gold, their fourth in the continental showpiece, after nine years and qualify for next year's Paris Olympics.
The Indians, who had to be content with a bronze medal in the last edition in Jakarta, thus won their fourth Asian Games gold and first since the 2014 Incheon edition.
India's other gold medals came in 1966 and 1998, both times in Bangkok.
South Korea won the bronze medal after eking out a close 2-1 win over hosts China.
Harmanpreet (32nd, 59th minutes) scored a brace through penalty corners, Amit Rohidas (36th) also sounded the board from a set-piece, while Manpreet Singh (25th) and Abhishek (48th) found the net from field efforts to register the famous victory for India.
Seren Tanaka converted a penalty corner for Japan in the 51st minutes.
Harmanpreet, thus, finished the tournament as India's top scorer with 13 goals, one ahead of striker Mandeep Singh.
The Indians, who ended the tournament unbeaten, were by far the better side against Japan, whom they had defeated 4-2 in the pool stages.
The Indians mostly used the flanks to great effect to build their attacks and also used down-the-line long balls to perfection.
The Tokyo Olympics bronze medallists were quick to get off the blocks and made quite a few circle penetrations but failed to convert them into goals in the first quarter.
India played high-press hockey and constantly put the Japanese defence under pressure.
They got their first chance in the fifth minute but Lalit Upadhyay's deflection from a pass from the left flank was saved by Japanese goalkeeper Takumi Kitagawa.
The Indians kept on pressing hard and, in the process, secured their first penalty corner of the match but Harmanpreet's flick was brilliantly saved by an agile Kitagawa.
Two minutes into the second quarter, India earned another penalty corner but the variation didn't work as Rohidas's flick went over the post.
India continued their attacking hockey and finally took the lead in the 25th minute when Manpreet scored from a rebound with a powerful reverse hit from top of the circle after Abhishek's initial try, from close range, was saved by the Japanese goalkeeper.
Two minutes from half-time, India goalkeeper PR Sreejesh was alert in front of his goal and was perfectly placed to deny Japan's try, blocking the ball with his legs.
Two minutes into the second half, India secured three consecutive penalty corners and this time Harmanpreet was bang on target with the final attempt, sounding the board with a powerful drag-flick to the left of Kitagawa's extend left leg.
Minutes later, Rohidas tripled India's lead, finding the net with a powerful high flick that beat Japan goalkeeper Kitagawa all ends up.
Shamsher Singh then came close to registering his name in the score sheet only to be denied by Kitagawa.
It was complete domination by the Indians as three minutes into the fourth and final quarter Abhishek made the scoreline 4-0 from a tight angle after receiving a pass from vice-captain Hardik Singh.
With nothing to lose, Japan woke up in the last 10 minutes and secured two back-to-back penalty corners and Tanaka pulled one back.

India emerged champions in the Men's Hockey5s Asia Cup here on Saturday, beating arch-rivals Pakistan 2-0 in a shootout after both teams were locked at 4-4 in regulation time.
With the win, India have booked their place in the FIH Men's Hockey5s World Cup 2024.
For India, Mohammed Raheel (19th and 26th), Jugraj Singh (7th) and Maninder Singh (10th) were the goal scorers during the regulation time, whereas Gurjot Singh and Maninder Singh managed to beat the goalkeeper in the shootout.
Pakistan, Abdul Rehman (5th), captain Abdul Rana (13th), Zikriya Hayat (14th) and Arshad Liaqat (19th) were on target for Pakistan.
Indian keeper Suraj Karkera made some vital saves before Pakistan broke the deadlock via Rehman in the fifth minute.
Jugraj Singh got the equalizer for India just a couple of minutes later. India took the lead with Maninder Singh's reverse hit from a distance.
Nevertheless, Pakistan struck back quickly and restored their lead through skipper Abdul Rana (13th) and Zikriya Hayat (14th).
The Men in Blue began to play a possession-based game and pressed deeper, only for Pakistan to double its lead via Arshad Liaqat in the 19th minute.
While Mohammed Raheel immediately pulled one back for India at the same time, the Indians upped their ante and began attacking from all corners.
In the 26th minute, Mohammed Raheel received a long pass and dribbled past Pakistan's under-pressure defence, striking the ball home to draw level again.
Both teams failed to score a winner, and as things went to the shootout, Gurjot Singh and Maninder Singh scored for India.
For Pakistan, Arshad Liaqat and Muhammad Murtaza missed their attempts, allowing the Men in Blue to lift the title. Meanwhile, the women's team also defeated Thailand 7-2 in the final to qualify for the Hockey 5s World Cup.

A spirited India eked out a fighting 4-3 win over Malaysia in the final to clinch the Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament for the fourth time here on Saturday.
Malaysia were aggressive in the first half as the Indians found it difficult to restrict their opponent.
India converted the first PC in the ninth minute, Jugraj scoring with a fierce flick to the right of the Malaysian goalie.
The Indians got into their groove as the match progressed and played full-press hockey after the sluggish start.
But Malaysia didn't sit back and continued to test the Indian defence. Their efforts bore fruit in the 14th minute when Abu Kamal Azari found the back of the net after being fed by Azuan Hasan from the right flank.
Seconds from the first quarter, India secured back-to-back penalty corners but wasted both the chances.
Malaysia kept up their tempo in the second quarter and earned consecutive penalty corners in the 18th minute, the second of which was converted by Razie Rahim as the ball went in after getting a deflection from rusher Amit Rohidas' stick.
Malaysia secured a penalty corner for an unnecessary stick check by Jugraj in the 23rd minute but the effort went wide.
Malaysia got another penalty corner in the 28th minute and this time Muhamad Aminudin made no mistake to hand his side a 3-1 lead at half-time.
Malaysia earned another penalty corner in the 43rd minute but India defended stoutly.

A dominant India mauled reigning Asian champions Japan 5-0 to enter their fourth Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament final at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Friday.
While three-time champions India adopted a high-press hockey from the onset, Japan played deep into their defence to thwart the home team's attacks.
India got the first scoring chance of the match in the form of a penalty corner but Japan goalkeeper Takashi Yoshikawa made a confident save to deny home team skipper Harmanpreet Singh.
The Indians set pace of the game and enjoyed bulk of the possession, while Japan played catch-up hockey.
After a barren first quarter, India finally took the lead in the 19th minute through Akashdeep Singh, who slapped the ball in from a rebound after Hardik Singh's initial shot was saved by Japan's second goalkeeper Takumi Kitagawa.
India kept up the tempo and earned their second penalty corner in the 23rd minute and India skipper Harmanpreet sounded the board with a fierce low flick to the left of Japanese goalie to double India's lead.
Just at the stroke of half-time, India tripled their lead through Mandeep Singh.
It was Manpreet Singh who was instrumental in getting the third goal as he intercepted the ball in the midfield and then beat three Japanese defenders to set it up for Mandeep, who just had to direct the ball in.
The trend continued after the change of ends as India continued to press hard on the Japanese goal.
Sumit probably scored the goal of the tournament with a back stick flick into the net from a tight angle after being brilliantly set up by Manpreet's hardwork from the right flank.
Young Karthi Selvam made it 5-0 in India's favour in the 51st minute after being fed by an unselfish Sukhjeet Singh, who received a perfect ariel ball from Harmanpreet.
India will take on Malaysia in the final on Saturday, while Japan will be up against defending champions South Korea in the third-fourth place play-off match.

The Men in Blue were off to a resounding start in the opening quarter, as it took them just five minutes into the contest to earn a penalty corner, and skipper Harmanpreet made no mistake in successfully converting it.

Three minutes later, it was another penalty corner and it yielded the same result through the same man, Harmanpreet.
Down by a couple of goals early into the tie, the Chinese players struggled to penetrate the Indian defence, as most of the action was taking place in the Chinese half.
At the stroke of the first quarter stoppage, India received another penalty corner. Varun's initial flick was saved by the Chinese defence but Sukhjeet scored from the rebound.
With a 3-0 lead, India started the second quarter on on a confident note.
Just two minutes into the quarter, Akshdeep scored from an assist from Manpreet Singh as India went 4-0 up.
However, just a minute later, China broke free, with Varun failing to tackle an ariel ball, as Wenhui sent it past Indian goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak.
But the Chinese goal hardly had any impact as a minute later, Varun found the back of the net from a set piece.
It was not until the 25th minute that China received their first penalty corner.
While the initial one was unsuccessful, the resulting corner led to Gao firing it past Pathak.
At the stroke of half-time, it was yet another penalty corner for India, with Varun shooting it into the top-right corner, as the hosts moved into the break with a 6-2 advantage.
After the change of ends, things did not change for China.
Although China tried to up the ante, they gave away a couple of corners again, and the one in the 40th minute saw Amit Rohidas's wide flick being angled in by Mandeep Singh for India's seventh goal.
While the third quarter was a relatively quiet one, the final quarter was even quieter, as despite the two sides earning a few penalty corners, none could put the ball into the net.
India will play Japan next on Friday.

This was India's fourth title, having earlier won the tournament in 2004, 2008 and 2015. Pakistan have won the tournament in 1987, 1992 and 1996.
Recognizing the team's effort and the unbeaten record in the prestigious tournament which saw the country qualify for the FIH Men's Junior World Cup in Malaysia, the Hockey India Executive Board announced a cash award of Rs 2 lakh each for the players and Rs 1 lakh each for support staff.
India went on the offensive from the first minute as they quickly earned a penalty corner through their first move. It was Sudeep Chirmako, who entered from the left wing and found the feet of a Pakistani defender but the subsequent chance went abegging.
India's failure to convert penalty corner again came to light in the sixth minute when Sunit Lakra's drag-flick was saved by the Pakistani goalkeeper.
However in the 12th minute of the opening quarter, India drew first blood when Angad Bir Singh tapped one home from close range after Araijeet Singh Hundal's shot was deflected off the goalmouth melee.
Hundal, one of the brightest talents among Indian hockey's Gen-Next, increased the lead to 2-0 as he received a delivery at the centre of the striking circle. He controlled and took a turn and smashed the ball home.
India made repeated raids into the Pakistan defensive third but the finish was lacking on most occasions even as they took a healthy 2-0 lead at half-time.
However, Pakistan pressed hard after the breather and it was Abdul Basharat, who pulled one back in the 37th minute when Abdul Shahid set the former up with a perfect assist.
The final quarter saw Pakistan make a flurry of attacks with as they got at least three penalty corners in quick succession.
In the 50th minute, Indian custodian Mohith Shashikumar made a diving save when Arbaz Ayaz tried to deflect a penalty corner from the left side of the Indian goal.
They got another penalty corner but Nadeem Khan's attempt was off-target. The Indians managed to stave off the waves of attack and then did well enough in the final moments to keep their slender one-goal lead intact.
Congratulating the team, Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey said, "The team has shown great promise over the past few months, particularly after their historic win at the Sultan of Johor Cup they have become a dominant force and I believe this big win will hold them in good stead for the Junior World Cup later this year.
"Hockey India has decided to honour the players for this feat with a befitting cash award. I congratulate the team and the support staff for their efforts." Speaking about the tense final, India team captain Uttam Singh, who was adjudged the Player of the Match, said, "After the 1-1 draw in the round robin stage, we were very aware of the areas we had to do well in order to beat Pakistan. It was quite a nervous Final. The team had never played in front of such a big crowd but I think created early goals helped us stay in control of the game." India coach CR Kumar said the win was a good team effort.
"It came down to executing our opportunities. Though I feel we could have scored a few more goals, when you are playing a big opponent like Pakistan there is a lot of pressure. But I am very happy with the way the players controlled their emotions and played to their potential."&nbsp;

They will also play two games against Australia 'A'. The tour will be part of the team's preparations ahead of the all-important Hangzhou Asian Games.
The Indian team will be led by ace goalkeeper Savita who was recently bestowed with the Balbir Singh Sr Hockey India Player of the Year (2022) Award. She will be assisted by Deep Grace Ekka as the team's vice captain.
Bichu Devi Kharibam is the second goalkeeper named in the squad with defenders Deep Grace Ekka, Nikki Pradhan, Ishika Chaudhary, Udita and Gurjit Kaur.
The midfielders include Nisha, Navjot Kaur, Monika, Salima Tete, Neha, Navneet Kaur, Sonika, Jyoti, and Baljeet Kaur.
India's forward line will be spearheaded by the seasoned striker Vandana Katariya who has more than 250 international caps. She will be joined by Lalremsiami, Sangita Kumari and Sharmila Devi.
Speaking about the team selection, chief coach Janneke Scopman said, "We are excited to have international exposure again after two intense training blocks. Australia are a formidable opponent that loves to play attacking hockey with speed.
"It will be a great test for us, and we will endeavour to match their speed on offence while maintaining our defensive ground." India will face Australia on May 18, 20 and 21, and Australia 'A' on the May 25 and 27. The Mate Stadium in Adelaide will host all five games

The seventh edition of the prestigious continental event, which was inaugurated in 2011, will serve as a precursor to the Asian Games hockey competition in Hangzhou, China in September.
Asian hockey powerhouse and three-time champion Pakistan as well as China are yet to confirm their participation in the tournament that will be played at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium.
India have won the tournament three times, in 2011, 2016, and were joint winners with Pakistan in 2018, while South Korea clinched the last edition title in 2021 in Dhaka.
