In a major development, a prominent terrorist working against India was shot dead in Pakistan on 20 February 2023.
Terror group Hizbul Mujahideen commander Bashir Ahmad Pir alias Imtiyaz Alam was fatally shot around five months after he was designated a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) by the Indian government.
Pir was standing outside a shop in Rawalpindi when assailants opened fire at him, according to reports.
Pir was allegedly in-charge of sending terror recruits into Kashmir by identifying infiltration routes and providing logistical support. He hailed from the Babarpora area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

USA's national security does not warrant revocation of the designation of these groups, the Biden administration said.

The US government has rejected the possibility of revoking the designation of Pakistan-based terror groups as global terrorist organisations.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken conducted a review of terror groups like Hizbul Mujahideen and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. Blinken said that the circumstances which led to these groups' designation as Foreign Terrorist Organisations have not changed.
USA's national security does not warrant revocation of the designation of these groups, the Biden administration said.
Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was designated as a terrorist organisation by the US on 1 September 2010. It also identified its leaders Hakimullah Mehsud and Wali ur-Rehman as specially designated global terrorists.
TTP, commonly known as the Pakistani Taliban, is an umbrella organisation of various Islamist armed terrorist groups operating along the Afghan&ndash;Pakistani border. Formed in 2007, the group shares a common ideology with the Afghan Taliban and assisted them in the 2001&ndash;2021 war.
Based out of Pakistan, Kashmir-centric Hizbul Mujahideen has been designated as a global terrorist organisation by the US, Canada, India and the European Union.

An extended portion of the house of a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant was demolished in Anantnag, officials in Srinagar said on Saturday.
According to authorities, Ghulam Nabi Khan alias Amir Khan had a wall built on encroached land as an extension to his house in Liver Pahalgam in the south Kashmir district.
Khan is a self-styled operational commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and had crossed over to Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early 1990s and is operating from there, they said.
The action follows the razing down of house of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant Ashiq Ahmad Nengroo in the Rajpora area of Pulwama earlier this month.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday sacked four government employees including terror accused Bitta Karate's wife and the son of Syed Salahuddin, the chief of banned outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.

Those dismissed include Assabah-ul-Arjamand Khan, the wife of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front member Farooq Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Karate, is a 2011 batch Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer and was posted in the Directorate of Rural Development. Muheet Ahmad Bhat, a senior scientist at Kashmir University; Majid Hussain Qadri, Senior Assistant Professor, Kashmir University, and Syed Abdul Mueed, Manager IT, Jammu &amp; Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI).
Farooq Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Karate is currently in judicial custody in terror-funding cases, officials said.&nbsp;
The J&amp;K administration has, over the past 11 months, terminated the services of over 40 government employees, reported The Indian Express.

A Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said.
They said the encounter happened after the police launched a cordon and search operation in Khandipora area of the south Kashmir district following a specific input about the presence of terrorists there. He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the hiding terrorists fired upon the forces.
In the exchange of fire, one terrorists was killed, the official said, adding the deceased belonged to the Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit.
The operation is going on, he said.

While quoting IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, The Kashmir Police Zone tweeted, “Militant Commander of outfit HM Nisar Khanday killed. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 AK 47 rifle recovered. Operation in progress,”.
As per the official records, Nisar Ahmad Khanday resident of Doru Anantnag was active since 12 October 2018 in Anantnag district.

Police officer Davinder Singh, who was arrested and chargesheeted by the NIA in a terror case, was on Thursday dismissed by the Jammu and Kashmir administration.In an official order, J&amp;K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha ordered Singh's dismissal from service with "immediate effect" .Davinder Singh was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in January last year when he was ferrying terrorists of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen to Jammu from Kashmir. The case was investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) who filed a chargesheet against Singh and others.According to the NIA chargesheet, Singh had been in constant touch with his handlers in the Pakistan High Commission who have since been repatriated to Islamabad.
