The actor, who also happens to be Bhansali's niece, reignited the discourse around nepotism, with netizens labelling her acting as 'below par'. However, during a recent episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, Sharmin confessed that she underwent an audition for the part of Alamzeb, despite her association with the filmmaker.&nbsp;
<h3>Sharmin's shocking confession&nbsp;</h3>
Sharmin Segal, who played a key role in 'Heermandi', has faced intense backlash for her performance, which many believe was the weakest link of Bhansali's extravagant period drama. Following the intense scrutiny online that quickly escalated to her social media profile, Segal also disabled comments on her Instagram account. Amid the staunch criticism, Sharmin has now revealed that she underwent a rigorous procedure before finally landing the role of Alamzeb. &nbsp;
The actor recently appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show along with Heermandi co-stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Richa Chadha. She took everyone in the audience by surprise when she revealed that she struggled to land a role in the drama, despite being related to Bhansali as his niece. When Kapil asked her if she truly auditioned for the role or just leveraged her uncle-niece relationship to be a part of the show, Sharmin chronicled a year-long journey that included sixteen auditions. She disclosed on the show, &ldquo;Ek saal ke liye prepare kiya aur 16 baar auditions diye&rdquo; (I prepared for a year and gave 16 auditions for the role).&rdquo;
<h3>Sharmin on online trolling&nbsp;</h3>
The actor also addressed the criticism and online trolling of her performance while appearing on a BBC Asian Network podcast. She said, &ldquo;There is a lot of pressure and sometimes it manifests in weird ways,&rdquo; before adding, "But I have a really good support system. I think my strongest support system is my sister. She also happened to be an assistant director on the show. So, it worked out in a way where I do have my outlets where I can vent.&rdquo;
'Heeramandi: The Dimaond Bazaar' debuted on Netflix on May 1. Despite lukewarm reviews, the period saga has managed to draw a significant audience. &nbsp;

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's first web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which also marks his digital debut, dropped on May 1 on Netflix. At the screening of the period drama in Los Angeles, the auteur made some startling revelations, sharing that Pakistani actors Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, and Imran Abbas were initially considered to play significant roles in the star-studded show.
<h3>SLB wanted to cast Pakistani actors in 'Heeramandi'</h3>
In a conversation with YouTuber and host Lily Singh, SLB revealed that the current cast was not his initial choice and that he wanted to rope Bollywood divas Rekha Ji, Karena, and Rani Mukerji. Sharing that the idea of Heeramandi has stayed with him for 18 years, the filmmaker also revealed that it was supposed to be a film. He said, "I had multiple castings in my mind; the idea has existed for 18 years. I thought about Rekha Ji and then Kareena Kapoor Khan and Rani Mukerji. It was a film back then."
The filmmaker further revealed that at one point, he had also thought about casting Pakistani actors, Mahira Khan, Imran Abbas, and Fawad Khan; however, he ended up with the current ensemble cast.&nbsp;
<h3>Imran Abbas reacts to Bhansali's revelation&nbsp;</h3>
Imran Abbas had talked about being offered the Sanjay Leela Bhansali project during a 2024 interview with ARY Digital's Shaan-e-Suhoor. "I had not said no to Heeramandi, but it got shelved," he had said. After his interview, the actor faced backlash for claiming that he was to be a part of an SLB project. Now, the Pakistani actor has taken to Instagram to appreciate Bhansali for clarifying that he was, in fact, in consideration for 'Heeramandi'.&nbsp;
Imran wrote, &ldquo;I appreciate Sanjay Leela Bhansali for providing this clarification. I would like to encourage my dear netizens and YouTubers to inquire with the other directors I mentioned in my interviews to confirm the offers made by them. The most disheartening aspect is not a lack of belief in me or the perception of me as a liar or a show-off."
He added, "It is evident that some individuals are confined within their limited worldview, unaware of many real-life experiences that others have encountered. For them, it's still a fantasy, since they are living in a small nutshell. What is even more distressing is when your own people degrade their own celebrities by quoting disrespectful comments from certain YouTubers and so-called journalists, who have faced criticism and are not at all credible even within the Bollywood industry."

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's OTT series 'Heeramandi:The Diamond Bazaar' will premiere on Netflix on May 1.
The release date of the much-awaited series was announced at a drone light show event held at Mahalaxmi Race Course in Mumbai. The event was attended by the show&rsquo;s star cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Sheikh, Prerna Singh, CEO of Bhansali Productions, and Tanya Bami, Director of Series, Netflix India.
Aditi Rao Hydari skipped the date announcement event of her Netflix show and the host confirmed that she couldn't be present at the launch because of her wedding with Siddharth.
&lsquo;We know why Aditi is not here. It&rsquo;s because she&rsquo;s getting married today,&rsquo; host Sachin Khumbar confirmed on stage.
Aditi&rsquo;s &lsquo;Heeramandi&rsquo; co-stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Segal simply smiled at the statement.
According to reports, Aditi and Siddharth&rsquo;s wedding ceremony took place at the Ranganatha Swamy temple mandapam in Srirangapur, Wanaparthi district, Telangana. Aditi's family has a historical association with the temple, as her maternal grandfather was the final ruler of the Wanaparthi Sansthanam. The wedding followed Hindu customs conducted by priests from Tamil Nadu, Siddharth's native state.

Described as an epic tale of love, power, revenge, and liberation, the series delves into the cultural milieu of 'Heeramandi,' an opulent district. It narrates the lives of courtesans and their patrons amid the upheaval of India's freedom movement in the 1940s.
Talking about the series, Sonakshi Sinha said Bhansali had created a dream-like world.
&lsquo;We didn&rsquo;t want to come out of his world, it was dreamy, stunning, and it was that captivating. For us as actors, it was an experience which we never had before. The takeaway from working with him was that no matter how good you think you are he will always get something better out of you,&rsquo; she said.
Richa Chadha, who previously worked with Bhansali on 2013's &lsquo;Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela&rsquo;, praised the filmmaker for his attention to detail.
&lsquo;Nothing can be done half-heartedly . You have to put your heart and soul into everything, whether it's dialogue delivery, acting, dancing, music, everything. He even keeps an eye on every extra standing behind. It is just beautiful to work with him. We all became better actors,&rsquo; she said.

After teasing fans with the intriguing first look, the makers have now dropped the first song from the film. Titled 'Sakal Ban', the moving track offers a glimpse into the opulent world crafted by SLB. &nbsp;

The song features the cast of the show including Manisha Koirala, Richa Chaddha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Shaikh and Sharmin Sehgal, who perfectly bring Bhansali's vision to life as grace meets grandeur. The song has been sung by Raja Hasan, while the lyrics have been credited to 14th-century poet Amir Khusro. Bhansali Productions shared the video on their Instagram account as well and added the caption, &ldquo;Step into spring to celebrate the season of flowers, blossoming with beauty, strength and grace!&rdquo;
