The Delhi High Court on Monday stayed a judgement, which directed the AAP government to take a decision on CM Arvind Kejriwal&rsquo;s rent payment promise made during the lockdown2020. The AAP government had said the state would pay rent for tenants unable to do so.
The high court bench headed by Chief Justice DN Patel criticised the government for making the statement without having any such intentionThe court had earlier ruled that a promise or assurance given by a Chief Minister &ldquo;clearly amounts to an enforceable promise&rdquo; and the implementation must be considered by the state.
The government had challenged the verdict and it came for hearing before the division bench on Monday.
It was observed that good governance requires that promises made to citizens by those who govern are not broken without valid reasons.
However, the government in its appeal said that Kejriwal's statement has been erroneously picked out of context and misinterpreted to constitute a &ldquo;sweeping and unconditional promise&rsquo;.

The Allahabad High Court has expressed concern over the fact that the UP Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act is being &lsquo;misused against innocent&nbsp;persons&rsquo;. The HC&nbsp;emphasised&nbsp;that a solution needs to be found to handle abandoned cows, if the legislation is to be implemented in &ldquo;letter and spirit&rdquo;. The HC made this observation while delivering bail to one&nbsp;Rahmuddin, who has been accused under the Act.&nbsp;The order said that even when the cows are &ldquo;shown to be recovered&rdquo;, no proper recovery memo is prepared and one does not know where the cows go after recovery.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Uttarakhand HC issues notice to Maha Guv over unpaid dues

The Uttrakhand&nbsp;High Court on Tuesday issued a show-cause&nbsp;notice to Maharashtra&nbsp;Governor&nbsp;Bhagat&nbsp;Singh&nbsp;Koshiyari&nbsp;asking him to submit his response over non-payment of pending dues as a former state CM. The Court was hearing a contempt petition against former Uttrakhand&nbsp;chief ministers for non-payment of dues during their respective tenures. Earlier in May last year, the court had ordered four former CMs&nbsp;including Koshiyari&nbsp;to pay 2.8 crore&nbsp;rupees to the state government within 6 months for the buildings they occupied. While&nbsp;Koshiyari's&nbsp;counsel BS Upadhyay&nbsp;confirmed that they will respond within four weeks, Ramesh&nbsp;Pokhriyal&nbsp;Nishank, Vijay&nbsp;Bahuguna,&nbsp;and Bhuvan&nbsp;Chand&nbsp;Khaduri&nbsp;have also not cleared their dues.&nbsp;

PTI,&nbsp;Kochi:&nbsp;The Kerala High Court on Tuesday declined to stay the further proceedings in leasing out Thiruvananthapuram international airport to Adani Enterprises.
Considering an application by the Kerala government seeking the stay, the court adjourned the case for detailed hearing.
Directing the government to produce the documents before September 9, the bench said a detailed hearing in the matter will be held on September 15.
In its application, the state government said unless the stay is granted, it will be put to irreparable injury and hardship.
The state government filed the application in the court, after an all-party-meeting in the state demanded withdrawal of the Union Cabinet's decision last week to lease out the airport to Adani Enterprises.
Last year, the high court had dismissed the petition challenging the decision, terming it as not maintainable under Article 226 of the Constitution.
The state government then filed an appeal before the Supreme Court against the high court order.
The apex court set aside the judgement of the high court and the matter was remanded back to it for a decision on merit.
Referring to the top court directive, the state government said, "all further proceedings in relation to grant of lease with regard to operation, management and development of Thiruvananthapuram international airport to Adani Enterprises Ltd, is to be stayed pending disposal of the aforementioned writ petition."&nbsp;

The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court said in its order issued after hearing on Monday that the&nbsp;Hathras&nbsp;victim&rsquo;s fundamental right of decent cremation was infringed upon by UP authorities.&nbsp;The bench of 2 judges which heard the testimonies of the&nbsp;victim&rsquo;s family&nbsp;as well as&nbsp;Hathras DM and UP ADG Law and Order, said that it has so far not been given a good reason "as to why they could not hand over the body to the family members for some time, say for even half an hour, to enable them to perform their rituals at home and thereafter to cremate it either in the night or next day."&nbsp;The HC order, a copy of which is available which was made&nbsp;avaliable&nbsp;on Tuesday&nbsp;noted &ldquo;such valuable rights cannot be trampled or trifled casually or whimsically especially when those likely to be deprived are of the downtrodden class, uneducated and poor&rdquo;.&nbsp;

Weeks before Bihar polls, fodder scam convict and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was been granted bail by the Jharkhand&nbsp;High Court on Friday in the Chaibasa treasury case which is linked to the fodder scam.
But Lalu is unlikely to walk out of jail as the&nbsp;Dumka&nbsp;treasury case is still pending before the court.
In the Chaibasa treasury case, Lalu was awarded a jail sentence of five years. He has been convicted in four fodder scam cases, of which he has previously been granted bail in two cases.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted bail to the Pinjra&nbsp;Tod&nbsp;activist&nbsp;Devangana&nbsp;Kalita&nbsp;in the northeast Delhi violence case. The court said that the police failed to produce any evidence of her instigating women of a particular community or giving hate speeches. The court granted Kalita&nbsp;bail on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and also directed her to not tamper any evidences or influence any witnesses.&nbsp;Kalita&nbsp;who had 4 cases registered against her, will still not be released from jail. Although she has secured bail in 3 cases, she is yet to secure bail in a case under UAPA. Kalita&nbsp;was arrested in May for her alleged involvement in the Delhi riots and was charged for rioting, unlawful assembly, and attempt to&nbsp;murder.&nbsp;
