A Hawaiian pond has mysteriously turned pink, possibly due to drought, with scientists suspecting halobacteria as the cause.

In a bizarre phenomenon, a pond in Hawaii has turned bubble-gum pink. As per scientists, the possible reason behind the pond turning pung could be the drought. Scientists even warned that people should not enter this water or drink it.
In the lab tests, it was found that an organism called halobacteria might be the reason behind water turning pink. Staff at the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge on Maui have been monitoring this pink phenomenon since October 30.&nbsp;
For those unaware, Halobacteria, categorized as archaea or single-celled organisms, flourish in environments characterized by elevated salt concentrations, such as bodies of water. The salinity within the Kealia Pond outlet area presently exceeds 70 parts per thousand, a level twice as saline as seawater.
Authorities are being extra careful and telling people not to go into the water or eat fish from there because they haven't figured out where the strange colour in the water is coming from.

Speaking on rescue and relief efforts, Biden said that Army choppers helped with fire suppression efforts on the Big Island. He then added that by Big Island, he did not mean the one which people see on television "all the time".

At least 53 people have perished in the Hawaii wildfire so far, making it the worst natural disaster to hit the islands in this generation. Dozens of people have been injured, some critically.
The town of Lahaina has turned to ash and is &ldquo;all gone&rdquo;, its mayor said. While rescue efforts continue, authorities said that it is unclear how many people are missing.
The mayor added that it is difficult to identify those who were killed by the wildfire.
The Hawaii toll could rise, though, as rescuers reach parts of the island that had been inaccessible due to the three ongoing fires, including the one in Lahaina that was 80% contained on August 10, according to a Maui County news release.
Tourists were advised to stay away, and about 11,000 flew out of Maui on August 9 with at least 1,500 more expected to leave, according to Ed Sniffen, state transportation director.&nbsp;

Hawaii Governor Josh Green said on Saturday the death toll from devastating wildfires on the island of Maui had risen to 89, making it the deadliest in the U.S. in the past century.
Green told a news conference the figure would rise further as the emergency response operation continues.
An inferno had swept through the centuries-old town of Lahaina on Maui&rsquo;s west coast four days earlier and torched hundreds of homes and turned a lush, tropical area into a moonscape of ash.
At least two other fires have been burning on the island, with no fatalities reported thus far: in south Maui&rsquo;s Kihei area and in the mountainous, inland communities known as Upcountry.
Green said Hawaii was receiving "generous" support from the "highest level" with losses from the disaster currently estimated at close to $6 billion.

The unexpected wildfire has left behind burned cars, charred structures and piles of rubble across the island.
The flames forced some people to jump into the ocean in order to avoid injury. Clouds of toxic smoke were also seen covering the Maui region.
Wildfires, whipped by strong winds from Hurricane Dora passing far to the south, took the island of Maui by surprise.
The American airforce has also joined efforts to put the fire out. Two UH-60 Blackhawks and one CH-47 Chinooks were mobilized for firefighting efforts. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard&rsquo;s rescue operations are being aided by MH-60R Seahawk helicopters deployed by the Navy.
Hawaii Department of Transportation, Deputy Director for Highways Ed Sniffen said more than 11,000 people have been evacuated from Maui. He thanked airlines that service the area for their help.

Passenger Kaylee Reyes told Hawaii News Now that her mother had just sat down when the turbulence hit, and did not have a chance to buckle her safety belt.

Nearly a dozen people were seriously injured when a flight to Hawaii was rocked by severe turbulence on Sunday about 30 minutes outside Honolulu, an emergency response agency said.
Eleven people were hospitalized in serious condition and nine others were in stable condition, the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said in a statement. It said a call came in shortly after 11 a.m. about the injuries on a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Phoenix. Responders treated 36 people and of those, 20 people were transported for further medical treatment.
The statement said the wounds included a serious head injury, lacerations, bruising and loss of consciousness.

The differing number of injuries could not immediately be reconciled.
Thomas Vaughan, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Honolulu, said there had been a weather advisory out for thunderstorms that included Oahu and areas that would have included the flight path at the time of the incident.
