<h3>The origin of macram&eacute;</h3>
The art of knotting cords to create decorative and functional items dates back to ancient times. It is believed that macram&eacute; originated in the Middle East and Arab weavers and sailors spread the practice through trade routes, influencing various cultures.&nbsp;
The art form continued to develop and evolve during the Renaissance period in Europe. It was particularly favoured among sailors, who used knots to create elaborate decorations and then barter them if required. They even helped spread this handicraft around the globe which made it popular during the 17th and 18th centuries.
In the 19th century, macram&eacute; became bold and loud, finding its way not just into home decor but also into fashion. Working women embraced the art form extensively; be it in the form of umbrellas, bags, clothing or curtains.
During the 20th century, macram&eacute; became a symbol of the new youth movement. In the 1960s and 1970s, macram&eacute; experienced a major resurgence during the hippie and bohemian movements and handmade crafts were used to rebel against capitalism. Macram&eacute;'s extreme visibility soon spread to the wider culture and it eventually appeared in the homes and wardrobes of regular people.&nbsp;

To aid distressed artisans deeply affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Jammu and Kashmir administration organised its first handloom and handicraft exhibition amidst the pandemic.
The exhibition, which was organised at Kashmir Haat&nbsp;in Srinagar, will be held on a rotational basis and will provide direct marketing support to artisans and weavers.&nbsp;
All social distancing norms and otherCovid-19 guidelines were followed.
Everything from Pashmina&nbsp;to Kani shawls, silk carpets and copperware, pherans with zari&nbsp;were exhibited.&nbsp;
