Khadi&nbsp;is a coarse&nbsp;handspun&nbsp;and hand-woven fabric made from natural fibres.&nbsp;Derived from the word Khaddar, the making of Khadi involves converting fibre into yarn using spinning wheels. Made from cotton, silk and wool it can keep you warm in winters and cool in summers.&nbsp;

Khadi's evolution dates back to India's freedom struggle when Mahatma Gandhi revived the fabric and turned it into a powerful political tool against the British Raj. Gandhi with his chakra encouraged the use of the fabric "Made in India," as an effort to improve the socio-economic conditions and make way for self-sustenance.&nbsp;A symbol of the Swadeshi movement, self-reliance and self-respect, the revival of Khadi&nbsp;helped pave India's path to liberation.&nbsp;

Simplicity of the &lsquo;50s
Consumed by the fresh scent of freedom, the 1950s had a strong flavour of patriotism. The hand-spun khadi symbolised the swadeshi movement. Cloth sarees draped in different styles or simple salwar suits dominated the scene.
The fashion was largely functional and hints of European influences, especially in menswear, could also be observed. Women like Maharani Gayatri Devi, and Hindi cinema&rsquo;s Nargis, Nutan, Suraiya and Meena Kumari were the fashion icons of this era.
Colourful spirit of the &lsquo;60s
The 1960s was the decade that brought us Madhubala&rsquo;s Anarkali suit and the tiered orange saree on Mumtaz. Moving into a new decade, women&rsquo;s clothing became more fashionable and everyone embraced bright colours and prints.&nbsp;
With body-hugging churidar suits, shorter blouses and a hint of skin on display, the &lsquo;60s were also big on embracing curves. Not to forget, the poufy hairdos, winged eyeliner and the uber-popular Sadhna cut were also from this decade.

Cool girls &amp; boys of the &lsquo;90s
The decade that birthed Indipop stars like Alisha Chinai and cult films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Dil Toh Pagal Hai, the 1990s created trends that are still big today. From denim shirts, crop tops, chokers, co-ordinates and overalls to chiffon sarees and oversized shirts, we saw it all in the &lsquo;90s. Maker of&nbsp;affordable and trendy clothes, H&amp;M's factories have been named in several worker abuse reports over the years. Whereas Sabyasachi&nbsp;has been considered a champion for the Indian fashion industry and an ardent supporter of local artisans.
For his part, the designer has claimed in press interviews that 90 per cent of the H&amp;M line has been produced in India and&nbsp;all the patterns in the collaboration are hand-drawn by the Sabyasachi Art&nbsp;Foundation.
Priced between Rs. 2,000 to 10,000, the brand has also steered clear of calling this collection, a 'sustainable' one.&nbsp;
Keeping in mind the pandemic situation, H&amp;M is also pushing for a&nbsp;responsible in-store shopping experience, where customers will be asked to pre-register to shop the collection in stores.

To aid distressed artisans deeply affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Jammu and Kashmir administration organised its first handloom and handicraft exhibition amidst the pandemic.
The exhibition, which was organised at Kashmir Haat&nbsp;in Srinagar, will be held on a rotational basis and will provide direct marketing support to artisans and weavers.&nbsp;
All social distancing norms and otherCovid-19 guidelines were followed.
Everything from Pashmina&nbsp;to Kani shawls, silk carpets and copperware, pherans with zari&nbsp;were exhibited.&nbsp;
